Title: I believe: Strat city
Post by: Ruler2 on December 12, 2009, 01:34:01 PM
I believe that with the addition of the strat city we can now fully justify having artillery in-game.

How about you?

Would be an interesting addition. Kind of on par with how the 8" cruiser guns work.

Self propelled artillery? Or are you thinking trucks pulling cannons around the countryside?

some self propelled would be good but the bigger the gun the better, or even something like the wb .spot comand

I can tell you that the three (3) hours spent running around in rook strats today was fun and interesting to some degree but it was impossible to tell where to go in the industrial zone to find what was still up. The AAA on the sides of the flack towers were able to be killed but those on top only produced ricochets. It was good for perks (not that we need any more) and I know a few rooks that got lots of proxies due to the AAA but there were not enough bishops working the place to make it worthwhile. Would a tracked or towable artillery piece be useful? I think against CVs there would be much more use for one than the strats.

Bear in mind (I believe) HTC is not finished with strat changes. I for one am still hoping that Pyro and Hitech have changed their mind and will add the B-29.  :D

How do you plan on scoring artillery?

Yeah, it doesn't work like that though.  Even guns are scored.

Obviously it shouldnt count for score.  :D

Guns are scored but they dont count for anything. Using artillery on strats and CVs or even fields would just push the fight on IF HTC also added something like "Incoming Artillery Reported at ###."

It could be scored as a GV, I mean think about it, we do BASICALLY the same thing with tank guns against buildings, but at shorter ranges.

That would be cool as all heck!!!

Would lend some realism to the game but then there would have to be choke points/villages/bridges and they would have to be accessable to get the guns or tanks involved.
But we are talking about wishes here so lets see where this all goes. Good luck and best regards to all for the holidays :aok

First thought is it might be interesting and a fun addition to game but not against the strat targets.  I belive it would be used to milk strat just like the GV spawns used to be used for.

funny take some field artillery to strats for no points whatsoever or take a tank for points.  easy choice.  but the arty would still be fun to use  :pray.

+1 if you score them the same as GVs.  :aok

Where did I read that HiTech arranged it this way to eliminate GV score-padding?

He did say something to that effect: basically he doesn't want GVs in the strat towns.  I think the design of the ack in strat towns supports that.  There's tons of ack everywhere and I swear the hardness of them is much higher than field ack.  I took a tank to the strat town (had to drive around in that vast neat eye candy) and the ack took nearly infinite HE hits without going down while field ack will go down if you sneeze in its general direction.

Ack dies to one shot if you can hit it but you have to hit it directly. The ack on top of the towers causes even AP to bounce off.

Yet carpeting a tower with eggs dosen't kill one gun  :huh

Yeah, I was talking about ack on the towers.

I killed a bunch of gv's driving around the knights strat the other day. That was the best time I have flying a stuka around in a long time. I say let the gv'ers into the Strat city.

Yeah, I was talking about ack on the towers.

The ack towers have a ring below the top that has 20mm guns that you can kill if you hit them. The ack on the very top of the tower does not appear to ever die.
