I bought the Xbox just to play this game.
o my
Ok I will take minute, ..
.. my baby blue '68 ZR-1 is sitting at LeMans, setup for class B/500 race today .. later this month I have an R3 spec race for the world championship ..think I will take out the McLaren for that one altho the Porsche is fun also..
Immersive?
If you're a gearhead like me .. .. O heck YA.
You earn cars by doing well in races, either by earning enough credits to buy one or the manufacturer awarding you a car for just plain smokin the AI.
You can paint 'em, tune em, .. soup 'em to the gills.
I have a lot more awareness of what it's like to drive one of those 1k hp twin turbo C-5's ..on the old Mulsanne Straight it showed 240mph into the braking zone,
..on that old two lane hiway it was like going lightspeed ..holy CRAP that thing is a *rocket*!!
.. I had to put a wing on it because the back tires just aren't enough
..even with the wing you cant go full throttle until 100mph or the tires just fry, and they're the biggest slicks I can hang on the back
I built a '68 blown Hemi Cuda in game .. it is unmanageable.
Wild.
Front end starts hunting badly at 160+, no front spoiler avail.
I actually took it out, went back to the 340 .. LOL
My '71 Hemi Challenger does a lot better, can actually race it at 200+ altho you have to be on top of it at every moment and it required all wheel drive to do so.
I even did a what if on a '90's Honda Civc Hatchback ..turbo charged S2000 motor, rear wheel drive,
..it's a frikkin beer can!
.. will do over 200 and it even handles well.
Like the vette tho, you cant punch it till over 100mph.
Just cant get enough bite in the back
Just got the hi sign from the pit boss, time to race,
I hope all of you and yours have a great new year
-Frank aka GE (hopin they do this one for the PC)

Wow, sounds like a great game, how does this compare to Gran Turismo? I was going to buy a PS3 when the new GT comes out, but I may opt for the Xbox and this if it is as good as it sounds....

GE, I have it also, ususally don't like race games but this one is an absolute blast.
Have you bought the wheel and pedals? They are reasonably cheap in Yurope (66€) and I'm amazed by the immersion that you get through the wheel. You really feel your ca
-
dumb finger ;)
You really feel your car loosing the grip through the force feedback. This is the first game where I think that tha force feedback is a great addition and not a gimmick.
The kids love the game too. Against all expectations, my daughter is doing really great on the track with a Cooper works mini (that she took hours to paint ;) ).
-
(that she took hours to paint ;) ).
:rofl
My wife and I bought a Wii system a couple years ago for the kids. We've bought quite a few games, spent a fair amount of money. But my 6 year old daughter's favorite activity seems to be making new versions of the little people that you use for your characters in the games.
-
I have Forza 3 on xbox, it is so real it actualy scares me. There is nothing else that even comes close. Gran Turismo falls far behind in my opinion, as do all other racing games.
Currently my favorite car is a 1995 Subaru 22B with a rediculous 210k credits put into it. Brand new engine, race tires, fully adjustable suspension kit, the full works. Although it does not need the adjustable spoilers as this thing sticks to the road with the stock aero. Works very well for A-class and some R3 races, even more fun is setting up the dampers and springs to stiff and flying round the real life road courses sideways. I sometimes get online on xbox live and my Id is o0fink0o (o-zero-fink-zero-o). Send me a friend request if you want to swap some paint jobs or tuning setups, or just race!

I got Forza 2, and I love that game. Play it all the time, and I have 100 different types of cars and what not. My favorite is probably the Lamborghini, even though it isn't too fast on the acceleration compared to most of my other cars.
-
If yer into cars at all ..watch some of the trailers on Forza's site for F3.
It just *rocks* on an HDTV.
I hear ya about spendin a ton of credits earned on 'stuff' .. I just bought the '68 Hemi Daytona and sunk a days credits into 'stuff' for it.
After Christmas I will sign up for Xbox live gold so I can upload pix an paint jobs .. I spent a day doin a few paint jobs,
.. nothin real fancy, just stripes an such the way I remember the cars on Central way back when.
The Daytona in our neighborhood when I grew up had a flat black hood and the 'Daytona' emblems on the wing and hood just above the right headlight ..not on F3's. Gonna have to find a pix an make one ..no way to put it on the side of the wing AFAIK, ..but she does look *good* lowered, on American Racing wheels, in B-5 Blue with the biggest slicks I can stuff under it :)
She drifts her back end out a bit at 180 or so in the corners, have to drift 'er a bit and easy on the steering inputs or she'll swap ends onya :) Cranks a little over 200 in the straights ..fun stuff :)
-and the sounds .. ooo-yaaa.

Big Forza fan here :x
My chick got it for me fir Xmas, so I haven't played it yet. I did play Forza 1 and 2. The Forza series is much much better than the GT series, althought I stoped at GT4, dono about GT5. On PC I run iRacing.
You are talking about HDTV, that's how I play racing games ... and AH. :

I never stopped playing Forza 2. Im still unlocking cars. Forza 3 is even better. Graphics are amazing, and you can catch yourself clenching your butt checks to hold on when you do 100+ around a tight turn trying to take the AI on the outside. I think its better then GT hands down. Not to mention the car companies allowed Forza to put full damage models on their beauties. Nothing like wrecking a car that most of us will never own.
-
And in forza3 you can now roll upside down, a big improvement on 2 :D
-
Been hammering on Forza 3 the last week or so ..
-very evil grin-
Earning an R1 class car, I took the R1 class Peugot uber racer around the Nurburgring ..
Ok it’s a little bit more than yer basic Vette or any other street legal car,
..but I posted a 7min 18 second run from a standing start without smashing the car to bits
Full simulation damage turned on, auto shifting, anti-lock brakes, no auto brakes, no stability control, and full guide line (because no way am I gonna remember all the braking points J
It’s a bit hectic and ‘fast paced’ in an R1 car, the thing has over 1k downforce just on the rear tires, and almost 1k on the front,
..but you can still get way sideways in a heartbeat .. just a scary fun ride!
-just sayin
-
I would say as a PS3 owner Forza destroys Gran Turismo, I've never played Forza but the fact they have a full game out it gets the win. G.T. only has a Prologue out a is like 4-5 years late and i don't see it ever coming out, even if it does it will be a total let down.
-
LOL.. they have a Dartsun 510!!
I had to get one :D
It's bright red with chrome 'baby moon' hubcaps and just a blast to run thru the little tight courses like Amalfi an such,
..numbered '54', natch :)
I am really hooked on the R1 Peugot diesel monster .. man that is hectic to keep fast in!
Fun stuff ..workin thru my 2nd R1 season now and turned the AI up to 'medium' ..I dont lap the AI anymore -LOL-
-GE aka Frank
-
I played forza 2 as well so I right away put the AI to hard, thinking I would be ok. But I have failed to win an R1 event yet! The R2 events were easier in the koinigsegg super car, But R1...I just get whooped. :cry
-
er ... 'Datsun' ..not Dartsun .. LOL.
I have yet to try 'hard' AI .. usin the controller that came with the game makes it tuff enough just to make a run into the apex fairly accurately even with an easy car to drive .. on medium they are fairly tuff as it is, I have only won by a car length on some of the runs and it's a fight all the way with lead changes anytime I miss my marks.
I don't run R1 at medium . . my Porsche diesel monster (affectionately called 'Cone KILLA') is 'hectic' at best :) .. I need something with more dynamic range to steer accurately at those speeds .. hence the name ..fits well.

-GT40 Ford .. what a *blast* to drive :)
-note the skid marks from all 4 tires ..easy on the gas out of the corner, she takes a bit to get her feet under her :)
-just barely kept it off the guard rail on this one, that 427 really overpowers the rear tars easily :)

What's really cool with Forza is realizing the difference between Japan/Euro & USA in car design, especially in the 60/70s. Trully show that they were making cars for the surrounding. Any 400HP muscle car doesn't stand a chance in European narrow/twisty roads against a 1600lbs/100HP Eurobox ... and vice versa when you have a road that allows the Muscle car room to breathe. Kind of like the design phylosophie of a 400HP Porsche rear engine helping u negociating the narrow twistes Vs a nose heavy 600HP Viper.
You find that in the game, some tracks require more HP than brain, some light and nimble. :old: Especially true in B class I find.
GT40 guy uh ... I'm more the "other" :rock. 330 P4 :rock :pray

aye Frenchie .. that Ferrari is a work of art :)
Gonna take me awhile yet to earn the credits to get it .. I keep buyin cars an dumpin chunks o credits into em .. LOL .. even the supercharged Land Rover (!!) ..
..ya .,.they got an SUV race or two ..it handles like .. er . .. well ... a truck!

Forza is absolutely fantastic.
Makes me want to get a wheel for my Xbox.

GE, that Cobra is a decent representation of the model, but far from accurate. It looks more like a modern kit car replica than the original.
In the original, the radiator intake was flattened on the bottom to make room for the oil cooler intake. The windshield rake is a point of contention. This car appears to be after FIA transformation of the Cobra as it does have an oil filter intake, but it is lacking the more sloped windshield of the post-FIA Cobra's as well as the front fender side spats.
It is also missing the reverse cut doors. When the rear flairs were accented for the 427, they had to reverse the rear edge of the door to do around the bulge. It was actually first done on the FIA 289 models. I have the serial numbers of the cars at home.
The original Cobra did not have tinted glass. It did not have sun visors.
The hood scoop intake is missing the diffuser. It was added to prevent a low pressure area from occurring in the front carburetor of the 427 engine, when at high speeds.
I'll stop there.
-
'feels under the lip of the fender'
ya ..it's 'glas, Skuzzy.
-grin-
thinkin they may have used a modified original .. or perhaps even a replica,
..altho if they went the distance to laser tag a Bugatti I would hope they found an original Cobra.
Thing is ..everyone who bought one ..*this was the '60's man* ..probably modified it to suit.
There was a guy in my neighborhood with one, had it painted a dark root beer metallic with a light brown stripe
..it was a '67 and just meaner than a junkyard dog.
He had slicks on the back and I dont beleive the 427 stayed in it for long.
I heard he stuffed a cammed-up Cleveland into it when that motor came out.
I do know it blasted by me on more than one occasion..
.. never raced him but I still remember the sheer brute force of sound and amazing acceleration as he would dart into the other lane and floor it, and
.. just . . be .. gone.
Saw him totally demoralize a '69 Hemi Road Runner one late nite out on Union Hills ..just frikkin left in first gear on the poor Plymouth.

Just make sure ya get a newer one. :)
I really want this game, but I don't think I'll have the time to play it any time soon. :(

So... Is this actual gameplay... or is it doctored footage?

if you mean the screen shots and the trailer those are gameplay shots. It really looks good in game.
-
yassir they are all in game shots that I posted .. just the tip of the iceberg as there are some *great* tracks to run, ..'Old Mulsanne' at LeMans, the 'Ring, Laguna Seca, .. I miss SPA tho ..would be fun to wring that ol' place out a bit .. and Monza.

Is there any decent xbox emulators for a PC?
-
Is there any decent xbox emulators for a PC?
Most PCs don't have the horsepower to keep up with a current generation console. Especially since PCs have to run a complicated OS at the same time.
-
for PC racin .. I hear Dirt 2 is da bomb.
Our creative director tells me it blows away Forza 3 even if you have a decent video card (aka GTX or some such)
..and he said by the end of the day he had the sound turned down almost all the way ..it's LOUD obnoxious BIG motors :)

I am saving my nickels and dimes for this bad boy (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/wheels/devices/5184&cl=us,en).
That would be for Dirt 2. Seems to be getting a lot of good raves.

Now that looks a serious wheel with 299$ tag on it.

Pricey for sure. I'll let you know how it works out. The $100 wheels I have broken were crap-o-la.
We shall see.

great so i may have to buy a crapbox for one lousy game, GT5 better not suck as much as the Prologue.

Yeah, Isn't that supposed to be out in two weeks?
no joke. Sounds like March in Japan, and 3rd Qtr for U.S. and everyone else.

I have always loved racing sims and flight sims. The only reason I got a PS1 was that I saw GT at a friend's house. The only reason I got a PS2 was for GT4. I've already got a bluray player... and the Sony has pushed back the new GT so much and as crappy as everyone says Prologue was... This game may tip the scale to get me to go to the dark side...
-
Looks like a fun game..........
But when it comes to online racing you have to try "Iracing"

From everything i heard the GT5 Demo is completely different from the Prologue. I'm going to wait and see if GT5 really comes out this time and give it a shot before i get an xbox just for Forza.

I fell in love with Grand Prix Legends .. was the first racing sim I really got hooked on badly.
I love a sim that makes the cars handle 'right'
.. I prefer a lot of stand alone stuff to do as, quite frankly,
I *hate* bumper cars..which seems to happen a lot 'online'
..not many people respect your line or make an effort to slow down when cutting the inside figuring to use you as the 'bank shot' out of the corner if you are into the apex first.
Then there's the reverse, .. guy behind me gets a better run out of the corner and instead of choosing a line that doesn't have me in it,
invariably just drives right into me ..it's why I stopped playing NASCAR Online ..even in a good league there's
just too many bumper car players instead of racers.
And yes .. I know the slower car is supposed to move over, unless it's for position.
Doesn't seem to matter to the bumper car racers.
-steps off soapbox
-GE aka Frank

I agree with you there GE, some of the bumper car players can ruin the fun. Best solution is find some more realistic players to race with and create private races with 'em.
On the other hand, I love the drifting race aspect of Forza, most often that is where I am playing. Most of the people who compete online in drifting races are honourable and respect the other drivers, very little 'bumper cars' going on there.
-
Skuzz, I'd bypass the G27 and go to the Fanatec, althrought for Dirt2 might not make much of a difference.
GE, Iracing is not too much into the bumper car business as to progress into licences to drive faster cars you have to manage "incident points" (4 for bumping, 1 for putting a wheel off track, 2 for hitting a wall) ... It's like AH ... you think u are badass till u show up online and throw your ego into ur intake.

I'll be really surprised if T10 didn't scan a real 65 427 Cobra S/C, as all the cars are produced under licence, and I don't see picky Shelby stamping his name on a billy bob replica. There are authentic Cobras with sunvisors, and the tinted glass are a Forza ingame option. Doesn't S/C stands for Semi-Competition? Maybe the street version of the 427 didn't have all the stuff you are mentioning ... which I have no idea what they are anyway :lol all I know about Cobras is "There's no such thing as an AC Cobra".
-
Frenchy, I have hundreds of photos of original Cobras. Street and race versions. The only race versions to use a full windshield were the FIA 289 cars.
Absolutely NO original Cobra had a perfectly oval or round radiator intake opening with an oil intake (street or comp).
If you like I can post pictures taken in the shops of Shelby Amercian of the original prototypes as well as the first production race version. I have some photos of the progress of the design as well as some with some different ideas that were tried before settling on the design everyone has come to know.
That car GE posted is not of an original Cobra. It was probably more expedient for them to get a kit car scanned as the originals are more difficult to find, unless you already know where to look.
-
For PC, what about rFactor? ive heard it is fairly popular as well.
-
I'm sure they know where to find one :lol Maybe they scaned one of those Shelby CSX 4000?
Anyway, post some pics when u have a chance, always nice to be educated :pray
-
It also goes to which original do you want? The very first group of 427 Cobras did not have an oil cooler intake. It was added on. The first 427 had a vented hood. The second one had a vented hood and an opening to allow airflow out from behind the radiator.
It would not be for several cars later that the familiar fender side vents would be added and the vents from the hood removed.
The production Cobras were based off a car which ran at a race in Las Vegas. That car also had a roof on it. IT was the only time a Cobra ran a race with a roof attached to it. I have a rare picture of that one taken during the race.
The only reason I never post those pictures is the scanner at home is attached to the Wife's computer for work purposes. Her computer almost always has some type of virus on it, I keep anything to do with her computer away from mine.
-
Man .. I would love to hang out an just watch/listen to Cobra's out playin :)
I would bet it is a good day, Skuz, to go hang with that crowd :)

The owners are a fun group of folks. We have the "Big Bend Road" race coming up in March. A 59 mile two way race with the speed limit raised to 125MPH by the state. The state allows us to block off entrances to the road for the two day event. Only race licensed drivers are allowed to participate and the cars must have inspection approved roll bars.
It is a hoot. I will be working one of the gates. A buddy of mine has a GT40 and I almost got to be the navigator for the run, but his son copped it. As there are no spectators allowed on the race course, being a worker at one of the gates is the only way to get to watch the race.
There will be around 60 Cobras at the event, so far.
Then we have the state wide gathering in San Marcos in April. Last year there were over 150 Cobras at it.
One day, I will have one. I just hope I can get it before Texas pulls a California on us and kills the hot rodding industry.
