Hi all,
I've found something to keep me looking foward to every day here in Iraq. My Iraqi BN counterpart HQ had a few dogs, and one of the dogs just gave birth to about 6 puppies. So it's kinda something beautiful in a middle of a mess. These dogs are very friendly especially the mom. Every time I come in from mission, they always run up and hop into my stryker wiggling their tails.
Today is one of those days that you just don't know what you'll run into. As I roll outside the wire, one of the friendly Iraqi Police truck got hit by an IED right outside the compound(no KIA), and I had to provide security for them as they get their problem fix. However, I also found my favorite dog that I raised here in Iraq gave birth. My goal for the remainder of the time here in Iraq is to get a weekly picture of these puppies growing up and share it with you all.

Yenny ;
Glad you have something good happing there , dogs look great . However the Police truck has been better . But did the air bags go off !
Nutte :salute
-
it did go off !
-
Very cool Yenny...what you gonna do when you RTB? Don't think customs would let them through.
Whoever was in that truck was lucky it hit the engine compartment...looks like the firewall did a partial save...still makes me :headscratch: how no KIA.

Them are some beautiful pups, do you know what breed they are?
-
Ohh I don't know, I know I can't bring one of em back to the state. I guess I just wanna get a picture of em every week if I could til I leave. Yea, when I had the audio contact I was like damn, not again thinking it was one of my truck, but whew glad it's not. Since I been in country for 2+ months now, I got hit by 2IED and mortar about 6x.

There's an organization that has been helping servicemen and women bringing home dogs from the war zones, don't recall the name though.

Fantastic man! Stay safe and keep posting as you can. Thanks for everything that you're doing.
-
There's nothing better than getting back and having a dog glad that you are. :aok
Not sure how the Iragis are about dogs. I know the Iranians hated dogs. The feral dogs were called jube dogs. Literal translation is gutter dogs.
-
Are you going to try to get them back to the state?

I don't know what it is but it really look like huskie, kinda like a wolf
I would say more like an Australian shepherd

Great pictures of the pups. With a little luck, maybe you can bring one home.
Keep your head down and stay safe. :salute

Thanks for posting Yenny. Keep your bellybutton safe and if you can figure out how to get those dogs out of country I'll take one! :D

Yenny, there is a organization that will go over to Iraq and pick up the dog to bring it to America. In fact, there are a lot of service man and women in Iraq that been doing this for a while.

Afghanis are terrified of dogs. Even the LNs on base thought that we were crazy when we showed affection to the strays that got on base.
-
That's how the Iranians are. You would think that every dog was a rabid one the way the acted. Always made me wonder how they managed to survive when everyone despised them. Also wondered how they got there if no one wanted them.
-
Beautifull Yenny. Hope you stay safe and can get one home.

Yeah, I had a bob tailed Aussie shepherd that looked very similar to her.
Hey Yenny- Thank for posting these and keep us informed. Stay safe and Merry Christmas. :salute

That's super of you to give a dam but when you leave they will have to stay. Makes me sad for them. Keep up the good work. I hope the dogs get a chance to live a normal dogs life.

They don't have to stay. There is an organization that will make the necessary arrangements to ship the dog to the US.

The pups are likely some type of CAO{central asian ovcharka}. These are fairly common in that part of the world, they're basically a large herding dog of the Mollosser family.
Purebred versions are much stouter and likely larger and the mom looks to be a hybred, commomly called a mongrel! These dogs have been around for a long time and served many purposed, herding, guard and fighting.
Anyone who's been to Afganistan may be familiar with type of dogfighting they do there,I've heard it called their "national sport" as dog and even horse fighting is a popular pastime there.
Of course without actually seeing these pups I'm purely speculating but mom sure looks alot like a CAO,just a tab on the smaller size.Being a feral dog this doesnt surprize me.
BTW they make excellent pets but require a firm hand and a watchful eye around children, they're known for their high prey drive.

If you can, get up to Mosul, the vet there has been known to get the shots forthe dogs that get "Adopted". We had a little Puppy for a while in my shop up there, Beautiful pup we named "DOZER". IT was a Heavy equipment shop. And also the KBR medic there is a dog handler and a vet.

Yeah, the hard part will be not getting attached to them. How much longer is your deployment? It will at least be something good to do while you're there, and you can pass them off to your relief when they arrive. Left leash, right leash walks?
Most of the Iraqis I met were terrified of dogs too, because the only dogs there are wild and roaming around. Seen 4 of them tearing apart a horse carcass one day. I creamed one with a HMMWV once too, unfortunately, but that's what he gets for wandering between a convoy traveling at 40mph.
The only time we saw "real" dogs was when we worked with AF dog teams. One day I'm getting my gun ready and I come down into the vehicle and there's a dog in my face. The wild dogs roamed in and out of our wire at will, but always gave us plenty of room. I was alarmed for a split second, but then I realized that the dog was clean, and had a collar on, and I remembered we were getting a dog team that day. Our terp was so scared of it that he refused to ride in his usual vehicle and rode somewhere else. It was a really cool, chill dog too.
Glad the NP are all right! The guys we had working with us were pretty high speed. Hope yours are too.
Stay safe!

OHhh! it's week two for these lil guys. Some of them can open their eyes now. However, they still having a hard time crawling around.

don't tell me anymore I already am discusted with that sh-t hole of a place. I thought I was maxed out but reading your story makes sick. I am so tired of hearing about these backwater customs from people that are doing nothing other then sucking up oxygen. It would be a place for the N Koreans to test their nukes out. I sure wouldn't lose any sleep.
You may not be an idiot , but your keyboard certainly is .
and why is that? Because I am discusted with people that fight dogs and now horses. What social redeeming quality do you see from this type of entertainment? I heard an old saying and that is never trust a person who is cruel to animals.
That being said you will find that in most cereal killers profiles animal cruelty was the common denominator . My keyboard is alive and well and I see nothing wrong from my point of view with it.

Hi all,
I got more updated pics of our puppies. It's week 8 now, they're fluffy and even more playful. I'm going to take these puppies and maintain them at our check point COP. Back in the FOB, it's like an article 15 if we touch any iraqi dogs. As lame as it is, but it's our FOB rule=/. Therefore, I'm gunna take it to my COP and just raise them there, and have my Iraqi counter part watch over them if I'm not there. I got a pretty good 2 min clips of these pups playing but I don't know where to upload them. I think these 8 puppies would be great watch dog anyway. I don't like seeing these lil guys getting shot like most puppies would end up.

Looks like they're coming along nicely. It's great that you're taking care of them like you are man. Hope it all works out. Have you talked to the dogs for soldiers org that brings them back to America after you rotate back? It might not hurt to get a head start on the arrangements so you can keep your favorite.
