Title: ACM please
Post by: bagrat on December 15, 2009, 08:46:20 PM
so lets say im in a 190 or 109 maybe even a p-51 and a spit 16(decent pilot) is gradually gainging on me from less than a K i'm only going a little over 300mph so reaching top speed before it saddles up is outta the question. what should be my first action an what am i to do to try and reverse this fight?

ps i mistakenly put this question in this "wishlist" forum... but lets ignore that mistake.

Go to the Training Arena.   ;)

Seriously, though, it really depends on so many things.  Do you have altitude you can trade for speed?  How far away is your wingman (You *do* have a wingman, right?)  If the bandit is already camped on your six at 1K and closing, it may already be too late.  So you may have to look at how you got to that point.  And the FW-190, the Bf-109, and the P-51 each have unique strengths which may allow you to escape.  But again, it depends on so many things not mentioned in your question.

So, flip as it might have seemed, the rejoinder, "Go to the Training Arena" is probably among the best answers (and there are many!) to your question.

dude your in a 190 do what every pilot does in a 190 (or a pony) point nose down and run.  I don't think ah lets the 190 or ponies make a turn in less than 2 sectors.

If it saddles up you have only one valid option.....overshoot.

In a P-51 I would make use of the flaps and generate a large closure rate. This means turning before he is within firing range, perhaps 1.0 to 1.5k. Dropping flaps and chopping throttle, if he zooms vertical abort the maneuver. Immediately drop the nose and extend in a manner that puts him in a trailing position again.

Given the situation you describe I usually can escape with a P-51B save an encounter with a Spit 14.
