Title: Can I have my £9.99 back please.
Post by: Kazaa on December 16, 2009, 11:02:44 AM
So I brought Il2 1946 (5 games in 1) , v.4.09m for £9.99 via steam.

What a load of crap. I'm so disgusted that I will now turn off my P.C.

I want to punch all the IL2 fanboi's in the face for tempting me to buy it!

No....

That should be sufficient punishment for trying out another WW2 sim.

The graphics and the damage model are OK. The flight model just ruins the whole game, switch planes and it feels like you're flying the same thing.

Oh I thought you didnt get it installed or something its took me 3 or 4 failed installs to get it going right. I've never owned a graphics card that could really give me a decent frame rate on IL2 one of the major issues I had was tracking planes a general lack of feel in the planes. Even in Hyperlobby the multiplayer kinda sucked I liked the damage modelling hopefully HTC will update the damage in here soon listening to your engine grinding into self destruction is a nice touch  :D

that would be part of a sound pack. only sounds that you will get that is like that are the ones players make on their free time

The new game looks promising, at least in the graphics department but I don't think the flight model is going through a significant change from IL2.

I took a very long break from Aces High and played 1946 in a "realism" squadron. There is a client called hyperlobby which allows you to play online with up to 60 players and what I really enjoyed was that most servers had realistic maps and plane sets. The learning curve for IL2 is much steeper than AH but once you become even decent in that game you can rule the skys online. Very very fun to fly in servers with no icons and no position marked on the map. Flying by instruments and radio is very rewarding once you get it down... I remember taxiing out to the runway in a no icons server time set to dawn with my four buddies (all in 109 e4s) turning on our nav lights and taking off together. We encountered a few spits taking them all down... At the time I was playing on a 10 foot projector screen. Nothing else like it really. Aces High is much more accessible and there ARE problems with IL2 around stick stirring and such...

I see, a user screwed up install. It doesnt play the same way a favorite toy does, so its time to slag it.
-1 for originality.

Instal was fine, it was the game as a whole that was the problem.

I like IL-2 for my in-between-WWI-and-WWII-biplane fix. My favorite server has been Skies of Valor due to the class acts on it. I will agree on the statement that a Spit feels almost exactly like a 109, save for the 109's massive torque. Unfortunately, I have given up mainly on other servers thanks to the Xbocks generation players. Plus, even with my mediocre skills, I land several kills a sortie on those servers. I just haven't felt much of a challenge save for a few pilots. If you unscrap IL-2 and go online, look for JP350, RS~Odyssey, and Pirates-Smile. They aren't too bad of pilots, and are friendly folk.
