The idea proposed by BnZ's while interesting, doesn't have much chance of success.

Here's an idea of how to better improve the scoring system, however.
Lets admit it. All of us have at least broken out an old copy of Quake 2 or Unreal Tournament once in our lives, and wasted a night or two killing online opponents or bots. In these games, you were awarded for hitting specific areas of the target. Head shots were the best. (Oh the days with the guided rocket launcher in Unreal Tournament.. )
So just like in those games, we should be awarded for our aim, not just our ability to put guns on the target.
Scoring an engine hit is better than just taking off a flap or two! Giving someone a pilot wound is surely better than shooting off a part of the landing gear.
This improvement to the scoring system will revolutionize how we define aim in the game.

Not always. Shooting a single flap off a F4U that has dropped them while going over the top is much better than hitting his engine and giving him an oil leak. Removing half a wing from the lead bomber of a formation can be better than just blowing him up by a cockpit hit - for example if he is about to drop on a CV...

Yes, but that's nitpicking. Surely you prefer watching your enemies explode like I do! Preferring to watch your opponent helplessly flop to the ground is borderline sadistic.
Therefore the humanism of instant death achieved through great aim should be awarded with more points.

I don't do that for the looks - when the lead bomber just explodes, the player is instantly transferred to the next plane at same level, speed & heading. His target solution isn't affected, and two remaining bombers can sink the cv too.
But when I remove half a wing, the bomber will start to roll and veer to the side, quickly messing up his target solution. The player has to recognize what is happening and bail out of his bomber, then go back to the bombsight. Few players are that quick. I saved quite a few CVs by doing that. :)

Then this would be an instance when you receive less points, via my new scoring scheme. Here, you chose to give up points for a higher cause; saving of your CV. ;)

just dont complain when people start ho'ing 100% of the time to get a high scoring head shot :devil. which actually would make me #1 rank .

Good point. My idea maybe moot if it would turn the MA into one big HO fest :headscratch:
