Title: Bengals' player Chris Henry passed away
Post by: Reschke on December 17, 2009, 11:04:05 AM
Not sure what happened other than he was involved in a very serious accident yesterday after somehow being in the back of a pickup truck following some sort of dispute but he died his morning as a result of the injuries sustained yesterday. It was looking like he had turned the corner on some really bad times in his life but you never really know.

It is sad to see a young man die in that manner. However I have followed his career since he was a highly recruited freshman at WVU.  He was arrested numerous times while in college.  He showed the intelligence of a rock along with the decision making skills of one.  The only reason he even got drafted was due to Fruadriguez doing everthing possible to cover up his problems.  Same thing goes for Pacman. I heard Rich Fraud has started recruiting out of the Michigan Youthful Offenders Program to get his talent for Big Blue. And no I'm not sorry he left WVU.

He had worked real hard to get his life straightened out this past off season and seemed to be making huge strides.  It's a shame to see a life cut short.

No offense Rich/bombrich but its all equally a tragedy.

Someone dieing young, someone going to die young, someone suffering from disease, etc its all terrible.

Not one should be considered worse than another because it still sucks that someone passes or will be passing.

Ive done volunteering or shadowed in ICUs, IMCU, see cancer patients undergoing treatment, etc.  Its all terrible and yea some arent noticed like how Chris Henry is being mentioned but shouldnt bash them because they are famous or what not.

I dont mean to offend anyone in this post but I dont think anyone's death should be bashed.  They will all have families mourning their loss.

Living in cincinnati, Chris Henry has been in the news a lot.  It does seem he had been turning his life aorund and "growing up" so to speak.. It is too abd this had to happen jsut when he appeared to be getting on the right track...

Keep in mind, he may have been arrested and whatnot, but the man still had a family.  So, even if you do not offer your thoughts for HIM, at least do so for his family

Prayers to Chris and his family from me....

you speak as though he is not a human being. Sad.

You do not specify whether this death is "sad", or if another person's opinion is "sad".

Please specify why you think he speaks of the deceased as a non-human being.

Yaknow its a funny thing about people. Here all of you are dribbling your insincere "sadness" over some gangster who was kilt while giving a beatdown to one of his baby momma. A guy who had proved time and time again he was just a criminal who could play football. And yet when those four Police Officers in Lakewood WA were killed recently, when some lunatic shot them point blank and they had no chance? I didnt see one voice or gesture of sympathy in these pages. I didnt hear one voice of sympathy as I made my rounds at work either, "tho I heard all kinds over this goofball football player".

Well their names were Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens, Mark Renninger, and Greg Richards. They couldnt play football very well I guess, and werent millionaires. Instead they lived lawful lives in service to their fellow man. They were gunned down by some racist lunatic who had decided he didnt like being arrested despite a life full of crime. Some other great thinker, the Govenor of Arkansas at the time, probably decided he was a great tragedy who needed a 2nd chance and gave him a pass from a long jail sentence. Another great thinker had given him bail at the time of the murders, despite his record, even tho he was charged with 8 serious felonies. One of them being child rape.

Anyway that is what I think about when I hear all these A-moral tools trying to be more sympathetic then the next guy about the latest gangster/football player kilt doing gangsta stuff.

Their names were Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens, Mark Renninger, and Greg Richards. They were human beings too. And far better ones then this bum.

Not one voice of sympathy at the time either. Sad.

What an fluff'n loser, its really too bad when an opportunity is wasted on someone who obviously feels (felt)a sense of entitlement without obligation.

Well I just went back 15 pages and couldnt find anything. Nor could I at the time.

Now this NFL commisioner, the big reformer, wants to hold a tribute to this guy during a game. My God what a hypocrite! Only in America do we celebrate the lives of street criminals just because they can catch a little leather ball. All the true innocents Ive seen hurt by these creeps during 26 years on the street and they expect me to buy their spiel. Its just to much to stomach sometimes. Im done with this thread.

Henry had a checkered off-field reputation. During his sophomore season, he was ejected from a game at Rutgers University due to multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and was suspended for the season finale against the University of Pittsburgh. His former Mountaineers coach, Rich Rodriguez, stated that he was "an embarrassment to himself and the program" for his conduct.[16]

On December 15, 2005, Henry was pulled over in northern Kentucky for speeding. During a search, marijuana was found in his shoes. He was also driving without a valid driver's license or valid insurance.[17] He pleaded guilty and avoided a jail sentence.

One month later, on January 30, 2006 he was arrested in Orlando, Florida for multiple gun charges including concealment and aggravated assault with a firearm.[18] He was reported to have been wearing his #15 Bengals jersey at the time of his arrest. He pleaded guilty to this charge and avoided jail time.

On April 29, Henry allowed three underage females (ages 18, 16 and 15) to consume alcohol at a hotel in Covington, Kentucky.[19] One of the three, an 18-year-old woman, accused Henry of sexually assaulting her; she later retracted her story and was charged with filing a false police report.[20] On January 25, 2007, Henry pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor violation of a city ordinance commonly referred to as a "keg law." He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with all but two of those days being suspended.[19]

He was pulled over on Interstate 275 in Ohio on June 3 at 1:18 A.M. by Ohio Highway Patrol trooper Michael Shimko for surmised drunk driving. He voluntarily submitted to a breathalyzer test at 2:06 A.M. at the Milford Police Department and registered a .092 blood-alcohol level, .012 above the level permitted in the state of Ohio.[21]

On October 6, he was suspended by the NFL for two games for violating the league's personal conduct and substance abuse policies. NFL policies forbade Henry from taking part in practices, however, he was allowed to attend any team meetings. Henry missed the Bengals' October 15, 2006 game at Tampa Bay and their October 22, 2006 home game versus Carolina.[22]

The following April, Henry was suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 NFL season for violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy.[10][16] His suspension on the 10th came with a stern warning that future misconduct may result in the end of his career with the NFL. Henry was given permission by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to begin practicing fully.[23] His suspension was lifted and he played in the November 11, 2007 game versus the Baltimore Ravens, amassing 4 catches for 99 yards.

Henry allegedly assaulted a valet attendant at Newport on the Levee in Newport, Kentucky on November 6, 2007.[24] He was arrested for a second time in Orlando on December 3 for violating his probation he was on from a January 30, 2006 arrest. On February 21, 2008, he was found not guilty.

On March 31, 2008, Henry was alleged to have punched a man named Gregory Meyer, 18, and thrown a beer bottle through the window of his car. Henry claimed it was a case of mistaken identity and also that he thought it was somebody else that owed him money.[25] Henry was waived by the Bengals a day after this arrest and was then forced to serve a house arrest sentence.

All signs point to Henry having turned his life around.  Now the commissioner of the league HE WORKED FOR wants to hold a tribute and you're crying foul?  Whether you like it or not, this guy was known by millions who follow the sport.  It should be easy to understand how those that follow the sport would be interested in what happened to one of the players they've watched play.  He's not being celebrated for being a thug, in fact, his prior thugdom (my new word) serves as more of a warning now than it ever did before.

So your also saying that all football players are thugs now?

Most of the NFL players either donate millions to charity, do hours of charity work, or both.

While maybe not the greatest example to use, Mike Vick.  I mean he committed a crime that no one can really forgive and I dont believe he himself forgives himself, but now he is doing charity work and speaking to little children to avoid the crime that he committed.

The point Im making, people do change after their criminal days.  Since these guys do make millions, think about the millions they could possibly and most likely donate to charity in response to their criminal days.

Not everyone is perfect, so why should Chris Henry be bashed because he wasnt perfect?  Every death is saddening and a tragedy and effect someone, somewhere in the world.

So whats he telling the little children? To not drown and electrocute helpless animals cause they wont fight no more? :lol To not use the millions made from playing football to fianance an intra-state dogfighting ring in order to profit from the torture? I could just see Vick in front of a 1st grade class, "now Johnny you should never, ever drown a helpless animal because he wont make you money no more". "And I dont care if your already a millionaire johnny dont ever do that". :headscratch:

Yaknow the Vickster once had to pay off a woman he infected with genital herpes even tho he had known about it and had been getting treated for it under an alias of "Ron Mexico". He just didnt tell her he had it. "Little Johnny dont you be infecting no 'hos". But sure, Im positive he just cant forgive himself Hoarach. :D

Yeah but according to Hoarach, who apparently knows him so well he knows what he's thinking, Vick cant "forgive himself" and is seeking redemption by speaking to little children and giving to charity. Just ask him what Vick is thinking.

Boy I feel guilty now. Here I was thinking the guy was just broke and needed to run with the football a little so he needed an angle, a spin. Anything to prevent people from remembering he tortured and killed helpless animals then spent months trying to organize his posse to take the heat, "like they had done so many other times when Vick was linked to drugs". In fact the dogfighting ring was discovered while investigators were searching Vicks property in a drug investigation of Vicks nephew. Another time two of his posse members were pinched in Vicks truck selling drugs.

Here, at best, the gangbangers just release their Pits when they have no more use for them. Mostly they shoot em but often just release them into the streets where we find them in just awful condition. Unfortunatly tho the dogs dont have the $ and the backers to hire a spinmaster to convince all these dumb Americans that they are reformed.

Vick is crap.I dont care if he throws 20 TD's in the superbowl. To do what he did requires a mindset that cant be fixed. He can wail and cry about how hes changed but its meaningless. They should also take anyone wearing the 7 jersey of his and beat them senseless. They are already 3/4 of the way there.
