Hopefully there wont be as many mistakes as before. :)

Yet again our misson is to bomb a strat deep withing enemy territory, the only plane for the job: ths B17.
I am assinged the task of bomber lead again. We roll to the Southwest so we can gain altitude before we head back east and meet fighters.

We swing back around east at 15,000 feet and continue to climb, by the time we hit out rendezvous point we are at 20k, the escorts are flying P51D's and already pushing it at 28k so we decide to level out there.

We all reduce throttle and begin to box up.

Soon we encounter a few Fw 190D9's diving in on our group, well organized we coordinate and are able to fend off the attack with only minimal casualties.

As we trudge into Germany we encounter more and more resistance from the Luftwaffe. Soon one of our lead escorts screams over radio "High 190's 12 o'clock of the bombers count 5....10....15....oh crap here they come!". B17's and Fw 190's are falling out of the sky everywhere.

Many of the 190's are gunned down by the B17's but a few make it through and make more and more passes on us.

It is about T+45 and we still haven't hit our target, so we open the throttle and cruise into the strat target.
Many 163's are up by now wreaking havoc on out bombers, the escorts do the best job they can at shooting them down but many get through and are able to destroy some of the buffs.

Sounds of guns blazing and fires roaring we drop our payload and hitail it out of there.
There is a heavy crosswind that makes it very hard to put bombs on even that big a target, most of out bombers have trouble hitting it. It was brought down to 81%.

After a few minutes things begin to die down and the remnants of the bomber group are cruising back home.
We are coming up on the Rhine river! "Were almost out of Germany!" an airman yells.

A few P51's escort us home and do fly bys on out battered and smoking bombers.

The ground crew cheer as we put our bombers down on the field, home safe...for this time.

Um..... didn't the Komets leave the wheeled trolley on the ground at takeoff?
