Title: Claim Jumpers "AvA Monday"
Post by: jimson on December 18, 2009, 11:08:28 AM
The Claim Jumpers would like to announce that we will be flying as Allies in the AvA arena on Mondays, starting this Monday Dec 21.

We will begin at 4pm est in the hopes of drawing numbers so that early players and our friends from overseas may also get a chance to try the arena.

A larger contingent will likely arrive later in the evening, the squads official start time for that is 8pm est.

We are hoping to draw in enough numbers to make AvA rock on Mondays.

If we get big participation from the squad, we will split if needed to balance numbers.

Not sure what kind of squad you are in the MAs, but just a word of advice/caution in case you are not already aware . . .

There is no "win the war" reset in the AvA.  If you take all of the bases of the opposing team, instead of a reset you end up with a porked map.  One of the admins would have to come in and redo all the settings, and it could be quite a while before one of them could do so.

So, in the case where your squad is the only one there, resist the temptation to begin rolling up bases unopposed.  Or, if you do take a few, then switch sides and take a few the other way every 5 bases or so.  (Although, I think shooting down squaddies would probably be more fun for you.)

Good luck with your Jumper Mondays.   :aok

Thanks for the heads up, I've already informed the squad that this is about the good fight and not about conquering the map.

If we do any base attacks at all, it will be for practice because we're bored and we will stop short of capture, most likely we will split up and duel, but we hope to draw enough participation that none of this will be necessary.

Thanks, again

its just another MA with exception of set planes.
as long as you have MA mentality flying around the results will be the same, just on a smaller scale.
just for chits~n~giggles i went to AVA tonight, thinking to myself.... maybe it will be different.
WRONG  :frown:  had a good fight with a hurri and some shmuck in a spit had to come in and cherry pick
proof  positive that AVA is no different then any other arena

Sorry you felt the need to leave after one fight.

I was asked if I needed help.  I replied I was pilot wounded.  When the Spit engaged I tried to disengage (between blackouts and with my normal disorientation) but you kept pressing your attack making it difficult to do so.

I even said on 200 I had asked for help.  Perhaps you didn't have it tuned yet as it seemed to take several seconds before you chimed in with a very similar complaint as the one you just posted here.

Not that I understand the complaint . . . the difference between the AvA and the MAs is historic match ups (this week's set-up being a rare exception with the zeke factory in the channel).  Many try to keep to 1v1 or 2v1 match ups to keep the fights fun and somewhat fair, but it has never been guaranteed.

Bottom line, if you want to form your opinion on one whole fight, you are entitled to do so.  But IMO that is just "proof positive" you really didn't care to give it a chance in the first place, but rather were looking for a reason to complain.  Suit yourself.

It was a good fight.  Too bad you didn't care to repeat it.  Hope you eventually change your mind and come back sometime.

That wasn't my experience, I thought the sportsmanship was about the best I've ever seen tonight.

I can't tell you how many times I saw a high con stay high and and NOT drop in a good fight I was having down low.

I didn't get ganged when I was expecting to and would have been cool with it if I had.

Friendly in game pm's, more <S>'s than ever, even when I didn't deserve them. LOL

Besides it's about the historical match-ups. Zekes notwithstanding.

Thanks for a great time guys.

sometimes it only takes one fight, the understanding I had was that there was an effort being made to draw a crowd of players into AVA that wanted something different from the norm.perhaps I was mistaken

Sorry I missed it (Christmas shopping nightmare time), thanks for organizing this, Jimson.  Hope it can become a regular thing.

It was my understanding that his month was supposed to be a squad based battle, we were supposed to pick a side and fight, the MA "mentality" is understood and yet some people just can't participate any other way. When it is 2 vs 1 and one of the 2 HO's someone that is not acceptable, especially when it is cannon's against bb's. The idea of taking bases though is ridiculous to think that people, squads, are not going to try and take bases, if the ability is there to take a base, being this month's competition, it will be taken. The CM doesn't want bases to be taken then he can disable troops. The competition was supposed to only go to the 17th but the arena message to fight like it was going on till the end of the month. So what do you do, act like it is still going on, per CM, or give in to the other side? Personally, NEVER GIVE UP! A Pit Bull on a T-Bone doesn't just let go, he fights till the end. So will I. :salute :salute

The idea behind the war is for squadrons to score as much points as possible for their side.  How they accomplish this is up to them but blowing stuff up gets a lot of points (i.e. JABO/bombing runs/shooting down opponents).  Capturing bases does as well.  We don't want people to reset a map and to use common sense.

Either way, we're encouraging all to 'fight' until December 31st to pad your scores.  We'll announce the winnah in the new year.  :salute

Rumour has it that The Gunfighters may be currently ranked #1 - but that's just a rumour.

Hey, Thanks.

I thought the planes were fun. Not popular with everyone though. I'll get back to you guys later.

Got my own Xmas nightmare going right now.

The AvA is different, if for no other reason than the fact you know you won't end up with some bizarro-world P-51 vs. P-47 fight.

Other than that, it is what the players make of it.  Had you simply said on 200 you would prefer a series of 1v1 fights rather than a "furball", I know of at least one player who would have been happy to oblige.

Instead, you complained and then quit before anyone could respond -- which, by the way, was very "MA" of you.

So, really, your experience was your own doing.  Hopefully you will come to realize that and give it another shot.  I for one would be happy to have a rematch or several.
