When using the fleet or shore battery 8" or 5" guns, wouldn't it be nice to hear that crackling type of incoming or outgoing sounds as the shells fly overhead and land on the field from naval attack or if on the fleet, hearing the rounds come in and the sound of the splash.
Any thoughts?
and be nice with the smart remarks :D

5 inchers don't make that noise...to hear the 8 inch round do it...I don't want to be around to hear it, close to the impact zone... :bolt:

Youve been watching to much movies I am afraid...
Unless your at extremely long range you never hear the round coming, its supersonic until impact.

-1 and I definately agree with gyrene! That close is too close! :O

OK Strip so your telling me I didn't hear the 155mm shells in Iraq that where landing Danger Close. Because you could defiantly hear them coming in.
-
Since when did AH have 155mm Howitzers?

It doesnt matter Strip the principle is the same. You dont hear them coming but you do hear them after they have passed. Thats why you dont hear the one that hits you.

+1 awsome idea but 5" shells are typicly AA so the idea could only be applied to 8". some bombs have gone supersonic do to their fall rate and people on the ground can hear them coming at supersonic speed in front) its not just movie magic people
-
You have the option in the 5" guns to select AA or HE so it applies to them also.

I can say I have heard 155mm rounds going overhead. I have also seen and heard the 155mm RAP (Rocket Assisted Projectile) rounds at night. Besides hearing the round is good. It means it went over and did not land on you.

Yeah Wagger, but they didn't have the same sound as what you hear from hollyweird...and with the standard round I know you were within viewing distance of impact. :neener:
