Ok so for the last 5yrs I have been flying with st290 Pro and the stick is finally wearing out. Im thinking of upgrading to the X52 or the X52 Pro, seeing as saitek has discontinued the the 290 line, so im looking to see which would be the best to get and y. I if anyone could help explain the differences that would be most helpful.

They discontinued the 290's? Damn! Used that for about 4 or 5 yrs as well. I think the X52 Pro is just made with a lil better quality...more metal or whatever...

i have 1 sitting here to(290), i use the x52 i bought as refurbished, 36 dollars delivered...I like it much more than the st 290...But I read where the pots go out on them, I guess some people have better luck than others. My 1 hatswitch does not work proper anymore, the pot inside is broken. The return spring inside. I look for replacement parts can't find any on the net but I have yet to contact Saitek. I took the stick apart and looks like it would be hard to replace anyway because it is sodered in place.
I would look at reviews before buying one.
Someone has said to me they buy at best buy then take the extra 2 year warranty out, after a year replace it. After another year replace it then take another 2 year extended warranty out.(or sooner if it breaks)
I really like the x52, I will try to use another hat switch as a 8 way ,maybe with the software provided.
I notice on the CH products page they sell replacement parts (for ch products), but need rudder pedals for that set up.
Someone could say because I bought refurbished is why mine is broken and that new is better, but thru my own research it seems the pots do go out on them. Guess I am just the unlucky one that it happen to.
Also seems the x52 pro has 2 year warranty and the regular x52 has a 1 year warranty unless that has changed.
my 2 centsa

I believe the X52 pro has hall sensors instead of pots for X & Y axis.

According to the Saitek site, the regular X52 has Hall effect sensors too, not just the Pro...
From the X52 description...
"The X52 also uses magnetic hall effect, non-contact sensors for the stick movement, so you won’t ever need to worry about employing a ground crew for regular services."

Unless you want to address what I posted, directly from the Saitek web site... In which case, your info is simply woefully incomplete and misleading...

Agreeing that the X-52 has hall effects and not pots, is no way incomplete nor misleading.
Get over yourself.

My bad PF, didn't realize that the standard X52 had hall sensors.
