Title: front ends...what is seen?
Post by: SPKmes on December 21, 2009, 02:07:08 PM
Ok first up where this fits I do not know..... My question is...when in a GV there are some structures that are always solid......some of the new ones I have notice will visualise as you get closer when they come into the range that your settings are at....now...I am wondering...if that structure isn't visible to your front end...( as most people know you can see a GV but not the structure) does this mean that that particular structure doesn't exist..this also goes for the trees that are I presume layered ontop of the core arena set........ the reason I am asking is it has happened a few times but last night I put myself behind one of these yet I had 3 others ranging and firing on me when I thought I would have been safe so to speak and when I am in the area of a group of trees but knowing myself that half of them aren't visable from a greater distance same thing...I couldn't see squat but the other GV's were ranging me like is was in a wide open space and yet when I was behind a known solid structure ( a windmill ) I was not seen....   ...So I spose my question is...if you can't see it (but know it is there)does the game register it as being clear.

If a tree falls in the forest, and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Actually, you can block your view with the tree leaves and others can still see you hiding next to the tree.  If they can get the shell at the right trajectory they will miss the tree and hit you.  There might also be a small discrepancy in the coordinates that your front-end is reporting to their front-end and vice-versa.

Before the recent terrain update and before the changes to ground detail I had a slow computer and had to have ground detail set to the minimum.  That made all the trees and ground objects not very far from me invisible.  I could see an enemy tank dot from miles out and start to range it.  Even though I could see the dot many times my shots would seem to explode in mid-air.  They were hitting the, invisible to me, trees. I suspect this hasn't changed so, even if you can't see them, they are still there.

As to hiding behind a windmill, tree or other object, if any part of your tank is visible to the enemy they can get a shot on you even if you can't see them.  I've killed a lot of guys in that situation and been killed that way.

If someone fires HE at you it will explode near you and still cause the hit sound. This is one way to flush out hiding vehicles. About a week ago I was shooting at 68 squadron and two tanks were chasing LTARtank and came to stop side-by-side so I fired HE to track them both and make it difficult for them to move with LTARtank. The HE round bounced off the 2nd tank from me and hit the 1st killing them both.
