This isn't a whine, I'm just curious about certain abilities of the Yaks FM here.
First of all, I remember dueling Citabria in the training arena in 1.03 109G10(him) vs me in Yak and the Yak couldn't keep up with the G10 in a zoom at all, now it seems as if its the best zoomer in the game and it takes it FOREVER to lose E in the vertical.
But now since I've tested the Yak offline and in the TA I beleive theres something wrong with its E retention.
It seems as if it zooms best at like 8-15k... at 0k it zooms same as G10.
It seems like with new FM Yak got a big boost of zoom ability, similar to how the Typhoon got a boost in stalling speed and low speed handling.

Hi
Yes ive noticed this too especially the typhoon low speed manouverability, everything ive ever read about it said it was fast as hell down low but that it wasnt agile enugh to deal with the german fighters
opposing it in a manuver fight of any sort. And it couldnt climb well at all.
thanks GRUNHERZ

there is no way to beat a yak below 20k in a g6 pilots being equal, yak is a badass plane. beautiful too, one of best lookin planes imo.

8-15k... and at which altitudes does the second gear of the Yak-9U supercharger run? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Best looking plane??? Pardon me, but do you have Grey Poupon?
Oh how gross.

it doesnt have wep and yes i good pilot in a yak can hang with g10 and g6. but cannot out manuver a g2. camo and i fight alot me in yak him in g2, just cant stay with it at all. as for zoom it does it very well. thats why i fly it, only thing i can fly and keep up with 109s in.

I don't know, Yak-9U seems okay to me. Has good performance up to 20k. Dives very well. Handles very well at low speed - better than La-5FN IMHO. I don't have much trouble with 109s in a Yak, since it can stay toe to toe in those hard vertical rudder turns, unlike the La-5FN. Only weakness for Yak-9U is armament.

<S> Jcy, we sure have had some great low alt fights recently. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
But I beg to differ with your view. Whenever I meet a Yak at low alt, I'm going to regard that as the highest threat. The Yak-9U outperforms the G-2 in everything, except maybe guns if (when) I carry 3x20mm.
The only reason I've been able to consistenly survive your attacks is our trusty and loyal group of crap wingmen. I remember you even whined to me about that one particular spit not leaving you alone. LOL. Wtg GrinBird. We just had a Continuation war H2H session yesterday, G-2/G-6 vs La5FN/Yak-9U. I tried the Yak for one sortie. I was surprised how well the Yak gets out of tricky situations. It is clearly better than the G-2, if flown correctly. I also tried turning with a G-2. I caught him after a few circles and shot him down. I got 3 kills in the fight and landed without a scratch. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) In comparison, I had 3 La5 sorties with maybe 1 kill in total, crashing and burning every time. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
The G-2 will have a hard time against a Yak in any fight. Without a wingman and team work the G-2 will loose quickly.
But I'm not saying the Yak is incorrectly modelled. It doesn't feel über, it was truly a great plane in real life as well. The Finns were pressed really hard when the Yak-9U appeared to the Soviet arsenal in early 1944.

Yup.. Yak is the best all around fighter if ya can shoot well. It has so feeble armament that snapshots hardly do any serious damage.
But in Yak you can turn with a N1K a while ( a little while..) , you can dive away from most opponents and it climbs like hell with even speeds of 250mph IAS. So no wonder I jsut love the plane. I`m not saying its any uber plane , I`m just pointing out that it really can outturn many fiters and outrun most. Only below 20k at least. Usually fighting goes form 10k to the deck where Yak is in its best.
And G10 is only "hard" opponent to Yak from 109`s. It can climb well and it goes so damn fast. Had real fun with StSanta in a Yak while he drove the G10.
...just killing the enemy planes ain`t easy because you have to be inside 300 yrds of target if ya want to even make serious damage.

Nath,
Please do some quantitative tests. If you run some zoom tests at different altitudes in the Yak and G10, please post the setup and results. If you can demonstrate something is broken I'm sure Pyro would fix it. Just saying you "think something is wrong" will get you nowhere.
BTW if you do zoom tests, be sure to do low-G pull ups. 3G's max, but 2G's is likely best. This will keep the plane's E burning under load from affecting the outcome as much.

I did the zoom test. I know nothing much about these two planes but i had some free time so i gave it a try. I was really surprised these planes could climb like that i most fly the 51 in the ma. now i know what not to do...... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
YAK :
TOP SPEED 1K 360IAS
25% FUEL
2G MAX to a 45 degree climb
7500k
looks like a 6500k climb
109g10 2x 20mm
TOP SPEED 1K 370IAS(WEP ON)
25% FUEL
2G MAX to a 45 degree climb
8200k
looks like a 7200k climb
for a total of 700k difference in climb from 1k start and top speed.

P.S. hope this points something out.

yup, remove the 2x20's from the G10 Robert and run both again at 100% fuel.

Hehe, yeah, I'd never fly a Yak-9U with only 25% fuel, RWY (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) When it gets to 25% it's time to rtb! 50-75% would be more realistic, if you want to roughly simulate combat conditions for a Yak-9U. I usually use up the other 25-50% of fuel on the rendevous to combat (I always take-off with 100% fuel in La-5FN or Yak-9U).

OK ...like i said i didnt know much about these planes. The G10 had the 1x20mm on the last test. so i went back and redid the test. I did somethings little bit different this time. I pulled up into climb holding 2g's max to a 45 degree angle then i turned on the auto trim to hold the plane in the climb til it stalled. This was the result.
YAK:
TOP SPEED 1K 360IAS
100% FUEL
2G MAX TO A 45 Degree climb
7k
looks like a 6k climb
109G10 1x20mm
TOP SPEED 1K 370
100% FUEL
2G MAX TO A 45 Degree climb
7400k
looks like a 6400k climb
As i said earlier i know nothing about these planes. But to me it looks like the Yak is a very good zoom climber.
RWY out !
