I really enjoyed it. It's not historically accurate; but who cares?
Cristoph waltz as Hans Landa is brilliantly psychotic, the Gestapo officer in the tavern is chilling, even brad pitt does a good job as the tennessee redneck.
-
It was boring as fricken' hell. They billed it in the trailers as a modern Dirty Dozen, but about 2/3 of the movie was about the Jewish girl that got maybe all of one second of time in the trailers, and looked too much like Diane Kruger to be able to tell in that time that this was actually a different person. And most of THAT part of the movie was about watching her get hit on by the German sniper.
There was the potential for two really good movies in there. The problem is he tried to put both of them together.
-
Seen the movie in theatres. Apart from a few good scenes, the movie was too drawn out and boring. Too much sitting at a table and talking.

The barroom scene was VERY well done. Yeah, lot of sitting and talking, but they did manage to keep up the intensity.
The problem was the rest of the movie around it. It was too long for either of the stories to stand by themselves, but not long enough to fully develop them both. You ultimately didn't really care too much about ANYONE in the bar scene. The Brit was pretty much introduced just to be killed off almost immediately, and there was barely any development about the two German members of the Basterds prior to that scene.

Got it for the GF for x-mas, but have no desire to see it myself. Might be a long night. :-(
-
Boy was I disappointed. I feel like I read a book rather than watched a movie. I don't mind subtitles but the coloring of them and the fact they were on a 34 inch WS TV in lieu of a theater screen really distracted from the movie.
Hardly any action, most of it was people sitting and talking to each other at tables. Anyone know what happened to the OTHER guys of the team? Wish they had focused on them more, as the advertisements showed.
Don't buy this DVD.
-
Yeah I have to agree, big disappointment from Tarantino, it was way to slow and boring, I only made it through half of it before I turned it off.
-
Good God. That's all I can say. If I was Brad Pitt, why not shoot Colonel Landa? So he gets a swastika carved into his head, so what? he still gets all the credit for ending the war and he gets to live out the rest of his life on Nantucket Island. They spent almost no time whatsoever with the Basterds and most of their time with that annoying German soldier.
-
I loved it.
-
The film was excellent and Waltz gave every inch an Oscar winning performance.
-
Typical Tarantino film, the bar scene reminded me of Reservoir Dogs. I enjoyed it but also thought it was too long and drawn out. Probably only a one time watch for me, not enough of the Basterd's doing what they do best.
-
I usually don't watch Tarantino shows. They are usually violent, vulgar & obnoxious.
TxDad got this one. I played AH instead of watching it. *blah*

Good for you. Your time was well spent. I wasted 2 hours of my life with that movie.

Agreed. :aok
-
I spent most of the film rolling about crying with laughter. Brad Pitt's Italian scene PRICELESS. :D :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
It wasn't all that bad. Of course it was surprisingly tame for Tarantino.
-

I liked Hugo Stiglitz.
The movie was alright but would have been way better if there was more killing nazis. Everybody expected the movie to be about killing nazis.
It was funny though. Especially in the movie theatre when they try to speak italian and at the end.
-
Nobody tells you that half (or more)of the movie is in subtitles, and the subtitles are the same color as the background, so WTF. Oh well, go for the Nazi killin'. NOT Terantino's best.

not worth the buy but a good one time watcher IMO.......I really liked the Italian scene also :rofl :rofl

I agree totally. I though his interrogation of people was spot on. I mean I was at the end of each one of his interrogations ready to tell him what he wanted to know. He does deserve to be nominated for an Oscar, even winning it!!!
-
Just watched it, I feel like :headscratch:
Characters were not credible, and every one was 2-dimensional. The film is just another Tarantino fantasy where bloodthirstiness takes the place of real human interaction.
-
Wow.
Opinions are all over the map here. Never said I was Siskel or ebert.
-
I've heard too many "it sucked" over "see it". I have no qualms of putting it up there with Valkyrie. I'm tired of Brad Pitt actually.

Dood dont listen to any of these Nay Sayers, watched it last night, Is it chock full of action? NO are there subtitles? YES
is it one of the best Movies that I have seen in a long time YES
any move that makes you sit up in your seat and go " whoa... holy hell..." is a good movie, and this did that to me a few times!!!
I think you will like it, It is not a bad movie in anyway shape or form!!!
INK
and to you guys that did not like it....every movie cant be FULL of killing
this movie is above most of Tarantino's.
-
Well I might check it out then.
-
Girlfriend is making me watch it.
Worst. Movie. Ever.
If I'd paid to see it in theaters, I'd have formed an Unruly Mob by now.
-
For those who said there isn't enough blood in the movie.
Here is the movie with in the movie "National Pride". This is the full 6 minutes of the movie.
This was directed by Eli Roth, he also played the Bear Jew in the movie.
He was also know the director for the movie "Hostel". Quentin Tarantino let him direct this part of the movie and was really pleased with the way the movie turned out. Said it really looked like a Nazi propaganda film by Goebbel.

Too bad he probably wouldn't have gotten off more than a few shots in the REAL battle. The first thing that came to mind when he told his story, and later when they showed the movie:
Call up the armor and fire for effect.
-
Am I getting this right...people are surprised that a Tarantino movie had akward long scenes of just talking? Isn't that *all* of his movies? LOL
-
Worst movie I've seen in a while...
-
wow I cant believe how many negative comments on the movie, I don't know I thought it was better then good, maybe just cuz im a Brad Pitt fan, the only movie he did I did not like was "meet Joe black" now that was a boring movie.
-
That movie isn't even worth getting if you have netflix. Now if it had been 180 minutes of the bastards killing nazis instead of sitting around talking about killing nazis then maybe yes.
-
15 minutes is all I could stand of it.
-
Not rental, even better, my buddy bought it and brought it over tonight. I eliminated the "Historical aspect". As much as I hate Pitt, the accent and most of the scenes were pretty funny.
But, I'm glad I got to watch it for free. Otherwise, I'd want my money back.

:P
-
Bar scene was good although some prior character development would have been nice.
Not enough to make it a good movie.
6/10
-
Waltz was the standout, and so was the gorgeous Melanie Laurent and it was great in parts but the obvious departure from historical fact was too much of a distraction for me...nothing more than killing an afternoon
Tronsky
-
I loved it... Waltz was terrifying... he played that role with such gusto it was a site to see.
The movie was slow in parts... and if they had gone the more dirty dozen rout it may have been more satisfying, but all in all I really enjoyed it.

QFT. The Brit showed up just to get killed, which more or less was the same case about the two German members of the Basterds, only ONE of which we actually learned anything about, and nothing too significant at that.
And Col. Landa striking the deal at the end of the movie made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. There was nothing leading up to that point that suggested he had any interest at all in allowing them to complete their mission. Was there a scene cut somewhere?
-
Haven't seen it yet.
Wanted to solely based upon the way Pitt pronounces "Natzee's" in the trailer.
-
Dont waste your time worst movie ive seen in years.
What a (*&^( Greek tragedy )
:furious :furious :furious
-
I was tricked by the trailers which suggested a complete diffrent movie than what was presented . the Bastards themselves were a second story line and a back burner add on . It was not a great theatrical movie but it is Tarantino and he just does some weird stuff anyways . Horrible movie but entertaining in a way .
Nutte :D
-
I thought it was good, a nice homage to the original movie and the dialogue rather snappy.
ack-ack
-
I pretty much stay away from any movie that has Tarantino's name on it.
-
Good movie. I liked the dialogue a lot. Not as violent as I thought but I think its better for it. Bar scene was the best.
-
I loved the movie, very indepth into its characters and their interactions of the plot.
Alot of people don't like this movie because of what it was hyped up to be, guys...its Tarantino...you know exactly what its going to be like.
I agree on a few parts, the bar could have been cut in half easily, and it was a bit long...but besides that it was a good entertaining movie.

:aok thought I was one of the only ones that enjoyed it.
