Is it possible to get an account without using my creditcard?
I keep hearing that it is not safe to use the creditcard on the internet.
I have e-mailed HTC about this but I havent got a reply. Does anyone here know if its possible?

Try calling them on the phone. I've never had a problem using my card on the net. Just make sure you get the secure link message when you access the input page. It's also a good idea to close your browser after your done (so I've been told anyway). :D

I know that HTC has setup accounts for people without credit cards.
When did you email them?
I'm sure they'll be in contact with you.

If you enter a "secure" page then it is 128 bit RSA encription. You don't have much to worry about. Now, the 56-bit Data Encryption Standard (DES) was cracked by home computers however there where over 72 quadrillion possible keys (72,057,594,037,927,936) just for 56-bit encription. This was done by THOUSANDS of computers over months. DESCHALL was the project name. Now, for every extra bit the time to crack one small message becomes an impossibility. What took months for 56 bit and thousands of computers for 64-bit it would be years and millions of computers.
I think you're safe.

No you don't need a credit card - you can send em a certified check if you want (to the address on this site). Include a note with your account details (name, handle, password etc.) and you're off to the races.

I used to use money orders as well, which i sent from Canada eh...

Poppycock! The 'danger' of the internet is trumped up by companies that want to make you worried, and then sell you silly-ass products to make you feel safe. Don't believe them. 128bit encryption will keep you nice and safe - as long as you are confident in the reputation of the company you are doing business with (which is the case in offline purchasing too) you will have nothing to worry about.
Now send me your credit card number and I'll set it up with Yankee for you... ;)

Actually using credit card in a store is more dangerous than using in the internet.
Hey... you hand it over to a person who could easily just remember or scan the creditcard number and use it!
Just give me your CC and I'll remember its number just by giving it a look :)
(..and thats what we need in the internet along with easier remembered stuff)

I send them a check every month. A lot of times I'm a little behind but I email them and let them know that the check is definitely on the way.
Works out good for me, and they get the money so it's all good. ;)

You obvously don't follow security very closely.. in the past 6 months microsoft programs have been hacked SO many times... I'm to tired to type more..

I've been sending in checks, since the end of beta. Just add a note with your info.
And Thanks Yankee for baring with me at times! ;)

HTC has a form you can fill out for prepay. I just use a bank money order, it works out just fine. You can keep track of your account balance through accounts.
