Title: a serious question (hack)
Post by: oceans11 on December 26, 2009, 12:00:21 PM
I was having a heated no abusive discussion about all the nonsense that has been going on in this software created virtual world .
1) I do not believe I deserved to be abused and get muted
2) I asked a simple question can this game be hacked?
3) Does anybody in this entire forum feel it cannot be hacked?
4) When something fishy happens and you call it lout why are you the person that gets abused
5) I am not going to get the call signs involved but the admin that muted me should be revoked
I need to be shown why it happened
The only reason why I believe it was is because I truly touched something

The only safe computer is a computer buried 50 feet in the ground with no power source and that still is not safe

So will someone here who works for Hi Tech give me an assurance that this VR world we fly around din is not able to be hacked
Until such time I will go about understanding that there are no 100 percent guarantees in this world . BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE A FEW who live in never never land

For example, former hackers Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson went on to create the UNIX operating system in the 1970s. This system had a huge impact on the development of Linux, a free UNIX-like operating system
And guess what our VR world is on a Solaris platform running on intell

7- Cheating allegations or descriptions are not allowed. Email support@hitechcreations.com to report any issues regarding this. HTC permanently bans anyone caught cheating in Aces High. We take cheating and allegations of cheating very seriously.

Seriously dude if you have the time delete your post and PM or e-mail HTC.
Doing things like this never end well.

This is not a topic for discussion here on the BBS since no possible good can come of it. In the end the "final barrier" is the community itself and anything deemed suspicious should be filmed and sent to skuzzy. The simple reality is that 99.99999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999998%

Anyone with 19 months experience here in the forum knows better, or should, than to bring this discussion forward.

Calling HTC onto the carpet usually doesn't end well.

Dude, delete your post FOR YOUR OWN GOOD !!!

Anything is possible, but worrying about it can only kill your fun of the game. If you have a problem, email HTC and discuss it with them.

Why is this the first instinctive action one takes when they feel they have been wronged? Is the logical approach that elusive, even when it is literally written down for all to see?

5) I am not going to get the call signs involved but the admin that muted me should be revoked

1) No one cares.
2) Yes.
3) If they do they aren't the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.
4) Because 99.99% of the time the person yelling "OMG HAX!" is either a total noob, or a total moron. It's always the same few guys doing this, they have been playing for years and are too stupid to accept the fact they suck so the other guy must be cheating.  Those in the know just film, and send it in.
5) You broke the rules, he was just doing his job, suck it up and move on.

If you have a problem with the game or mod, don't bring that up here.  What are we supposed to do, pat you on the back until you feel better?

... and then you STILL have to go to the admins to get something done.

Ocean.

This is how it is:  Of course it can be.  Every piece of software ever produced by man can be 'hacked' in some way or another.  However, here at Aces High we are very lucky.  We, for the most part anyway, are sportsmen and we require a level playing field to compete on.  HT knows this and does his absolute best to ensure that we get a level playing field.

I've heard stories that every time there is any report of even a hacking attempt (let alone a successful one) that HT immediately drops what he's doing (including all dev work) and investigates until he's either plugged the hole or discovered that it's just a report from some idiot who thinks a panzer should blow up with one shot at the thickest part of the armour from 2k away.  With HE.  Which can take days of his time, causes lots of swearing and slows up dev on new planes.  That line in the forum rules "We take allegations of cheating very seriously", is sooooo damn true.  So unless you're absolutely sure and have evidence, please don't waste any more of his time which could be spent designing cool new engine management systems.

Like a quote from Star Trek IV: "It's a miracle these people got out of the 20th Century."

it's human nature.

the human mind cannot accept being wrong. it needs to find some way to make itself right.

people by coming in here, with their partial truths(they conveniently leave out why this happened to them) do so with hopes of rallying the community behind them.
then, when they see that the community is with them, now in their mind, they were right, and can rest easy.

Look on youtube.

The thing is in this game unlike most others hackers are dealt with...... and the community knows how to spot a cheater so they wouldn't last long anyway.

ive only seen one time where it was actually proven that someone hacked. dunno if the video exists still but was a yaku taking off and instantly zooming up to a fight at like me163 speed. so ya i'd say the game can be hacked but with everyone able to film and view stats of every plane in range its hard to get away with it.

Oceans.... Others have already posted the correct response, but you still don't seem to understand it....

So, I will try to explain it to you, politely....

You are correct, there are NO safe computers or software.  If top secret government and banking computers can be hacked, I assure you HTC can be hacked as well.  However, there is a proper way to address suspected hacking/cheating and it has been posted on these BBS numerous times.  If you feel there is something afoul, film it, and quietly email the video to HTC.  They will look into it and address it if it proves to be an error, a hack, or a cheat.

The ONE thing that is very clear, is getting on Country or 200 channel and accusing someone of cheating or openly pointing out a problem is NOT healthy for game play and Skuzzy takes a very hard line toward it.  You weren't muted because you think someone cheated.  You were likely muted because you 'had your discussion' on an open channel.

which brings me back to the original point....   film it and send it in.  If there is a problem (intentional or not) I am very sure that it will be dealt with.  Do things the right way and you won't get spanked.

 :aok

Oh... and for the record.... I have no empirical data, but I would be willing to bet that the actual number of 'accused cheaters' who were actually hacking/cheating is likely to be less than 1/10 of 1%.  Frankly, I see some things every now and again that get my blood pressure up; but, I also believe that there is a logical explanation for it that DOES NOT include cheating.  Internet lag, bad connections, slow computers... whatever.  I honestly don't believe that 'hacking' is really as much of an issue as some would have you believe.

Bad Connection + Bad Pilot = Cheat Accuser

I'm not saying that's you ocean, but I'm not sure what you're looking for.  You said in your OP that no computer is safe, so then yes, obviously the game can be hacked.  Are you just looking for confirmation?  This is such a hush topic on the BBS because there isn't much to be solved by us talking about it, it's just a distraction to any real problems.  If hack accusations came up every day, more and more people would start seeing things they thought are hacks and HTC would spend their entire time investigating some claim about a P-51 outrunning a C-47.

It's been said many times but record the flights (advise you use the auto recorder) and send it in quietly if you need.

For those of you that dont know about oceans11 or the 'Avengers' is that when they run into an indevigual or squad better then them there can only be one explanation to why that is, and it has nothing to do with skill. I was once told by oceans that he had all the cheat codes and hacks for AH but unlike me he didnt need to use them.

Why even bring something like that up?  Are you wanting to know how to do it?

The real question is why bring it to the BBS here?  If it's a serious concern what can anyone here possibly do about it?  The only people who could address the concern/issue are the folks at HTC and they aren't going to do it in a public forum because it doesn't accomplish anything.

Can't say that the game is 100% hack proof because it probably isn't.  I know that 99% of the cheating allegations that are aired turn out to be nothing more than the accusers own lack of understanding of either how the game works or how network traffic/information is handled.

If you really want answers to your questions edit your post and try and get them from the only people who are actually in a position to make an informed assessment of what's happening.
