A friend of mine works for Austal that built the ship down in Mobile, AL and its one of the first in the new class of warships that can be transformed into several different versions within a matter of hours.

Here's the gun that's on that new Navy ship as well as what's being installed on the new Coast Guard National Security cutters. Bofors 57mm. It's one hell of a gun system. :aok

Completely different type of ship for a completely different role.

I'm aware. :D
But still, you gotta admit that beast is pretty neat.
The ship is the first to be designed fully from the CAD-screen up to support all three of the Marines' primary mobility capabilities — the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV), Landing Craft Air Cushion and MV-22B Osprey.
The fifth San-Antonio class amphibious transport dock.
AND designed around steel from the Twin Towers.
Pretty neat IMO.

Great vid...was used in one of the Fighter Fling videos way back :)
If I remember correctly, the Hornet driver was a former Blue Angel, and the senior leadership was not too happy with them when they landed :devil
