I got a gift certificate for Best Buy and figured I'd blow it on something fun. I want to give Modern Warfare 2 a shot, maybe one of the racing games, too. So, which is better of the consoles?
-
360 without a doubt
-
PS3
-
360 has more people for multi player. But I am personally a fan of PS. PC owns all tho.

PS3
There was a thread not to long ago about this.
It really depends what you want with it.
PS3 multiplayer is free and the hardware is 100x better. The games are about equal.
-
360
-
Atari 2600 FTW
-
PS3 for blu ray alone
Tronsky
-
NES no other console has better games.
-
360 if you just want to play games, that is if you don't mind the RROD every few weeks :lol Goning to have to pay for online access if you want to play online though
If you're going to want to do more than just games (listen to music, watch movies, upload pictures, etc) then go for the PS3.
Did you try out the Wii before?? My Aunt got one for her Sports Bar she's making and I tried some bowling and tennis on it yesterday. Was actually tons of fun!
Of course there's always PC's which own everything! :D
-
microsoft knowingly built a poor system with a high failure rate. i would not support them.
360 has a larger player base? it doesn't matter when the servers have a 24 player cap.. there are always full PS3 servers to play on. i've never noticed a lack of players. with the recent price drop PS3 is out selling the 360.
PS3 has a built in wireless network adapter which is a definate plus for me. 360 has an $100 wireless addon. $100 bucks, wtf???
with the wireless headsets... PS3 uses bluetooth, while you need an IR dongle hanging off your 360 for wireless communication.
hi definition. ps3 allows you to connect your hdmi and digital sound(surround) to your systems. 360 does not have built in optical out so you cant have hdmi and digital sound at the same time. side note: 360 didn't even launch with hdmi.
PS3's controller comes with a lithium ion battery and for the same price you get a 360 controller where you have to buy AA batteries.
Sony still supports the PS2 with new games while Microsoft does not with xbox. Which console will have more value/resale value in the future?
purchasing games at the online store. if you want to buy a game on PSN for $14.99 then you pay $14.99. if you want to buy a game on XBL then you have to buy microsoft points first, which comes in 100, 500, 1000, 5000.
PS3 runs quieter than the 360.
PS3 allows for user upgradeable harddrives and 3rd party usb drives. 360 is strictly overpriced 1st party.
then you also have to look at the exclusive titles. and if you plan to go online with your buddies.
the Wii is a toy, not a gaming console. not enough power.

:rofl
-
For gaming, I'd go with the 360.
I've got all 3, I find myself on the 360 far more often than the PS3, and my wife is the only one who (very infrequently) uses the Wii.
-
Yeah, the console will be a sidekick to the PC. PC rules for no other reason than it has "Aces High" :rock
I have a DVD player on a flat screen with 5.1 channel for movies. I'm looking for something that I can hook onto our 2nd tv in the computer room for some Modern Warfare 2 gaming, maybe team with my 11 y.o. nephew to kill al Quaida insurgents from time to time. It's looking like PS3 might be the way to go.
-
If you want hardcore online gaming, mostly under-developed games, and squeakers in your ear, buy a 360.
If you want a fancy DVD-player, mostly under-developed games, and a more powerful but largely unused processor, and affluent squeakers in your ear, buy a PS3.
If you want a low end, family gaming system with simple games, buy a Wii.
-
I can't stand Microshaft or Sony.
-
maybe team with my 11 y.o. nephew to kill al Quaida insurgents from time to time.
If it has the same teams as CoD:4, then it's a fictional Russian revolution, not al Quaida, and I believe Activision would stay away from using al Quaida due to the fact that we're dealing with them atm. ;)
Anywho, PS3 is a better console than the 360.
-
If your not gonna watch movies, upload a bunch of stuff, browse the internet or use it for facebcrap then I would get the 360. The gaming community is better and Modern warfare is absolutely amazing on it. Ive played Modern Warfare two on both systems. I liked Xbox 100 times more, its just a better system for straight hardcore gaming. Not to mention PS3 games suck but thats another story.
On a side note what you may want to do is run up to your local video game store. As long as they are not complete dicks they will most likely be willing to let you try out each system. So test them out and see which one feels best. Taking opinions on a forum like this is really kinda pointless as everyone is going to speak for the system that they have and like not what you want or will like.

I have all 3, therefore my opinion > everybody else here :)

I prefer computers. Why? When I'm done with mine, I take my cooling fan, stick it on my bike, call approach, then fly across town. It's a win-win situation!

So, does that mean that the NES is a toy? The Playstation was never a gaming console? The Wii may not have a lot of power, but that means that the focus is less on fancy graphics, and more so on the utilization of the two sticks that you swing at the screen. Oh wait, there are only a few games that do that well...nevermind.
Wii is fun, but there are plenty of under-developed games for the Wii, especially the "family-fun" games.
PS3 is fun as well, and the controller is very easy to get used to if you are making the jump from a PS2.
Xbox 360, I have next to no experience with, besides getting pwned in Battlefield: Bad Company when I had the controller in my hands for five seconds.
Go with a Nintendo DS and a PSP, solid gaming platforms they are. Disgaea for the PSP, with Metroid Prime Hunters, Professor Layton, Custom Robo Arena, Sonic Rush, and The World Ends With You (A Square Enix game that ISN'T Final Fantasy! Imagine that!) for DS. Besides, with handhelds, you get to avoid the console war. Same for PCs. :rock

Those saying that the PS3 games suck cant be said anymore.
Companies finally are being able to take advantage of the PS3 hardware capabilities and the games coming out now are top notch. God of War 3 coming out is much anticipated, Uncharted series is unreal, Infamous is another great game, cant go wrong with the metal gear solid series, and imo seems that more adults play the PS3 online than do on xbox.
I play NCAA very often online on PS3 and hear little no squeakers, play xbox on my suitemates at college and hear nothing but squeakers.
Another problem with xbox they charge you on every little bit possible unlike sony. You can easily but a cheap alternative for the PS3 such as the mini usb charger cables can just get a knockoff at radioshack used for computer devices or use a bluetooth normally used for phones.

Ive had all three and found that the new ps3 does not go backward compatible which sucks!/
I like the Wiifor the exercise , but as was stated if you want serious gamming , the Wii is not the way to go. therefore go with what you feel is right. We cannot make your mind up for you . all I c an do is give my personal experiences. The 360 is a great machine but I dont go online with it My PC does that well enough !
-
Simple:
360: Games
PS3: Movies
Pick your choice.
-
The World Ends With You (A Square Enix game that ISN'T Final Fantasy! Imagine that!) for DS.
Only 95% of our games are Final Fantasy, though with our recent purchase of Eidos, look for more and more western style games from SQEX.

The wii has great games, but fails with fps and sports games like madden 10. Motion control for fps doesn't work for obvious reasons (Only experience with COD). And when comparing the multiplatform game madden 10; you see the wii can't draw individual look-a-like characters but uses three(S,M,L) generic body type characters. You can tell it's all arcade and 0% simulation, not true to what madden is supposed to be.
I love mario bros and zelda, but wish it was HD.
Nintendo did well for themselves though, but they sell to a different crowd.

Edit: Yanno, nevermind. Kazaa reminded me that I have become what I hate: a console fanboy. Carry on.

Lolconsoles.

my xbox died a few days before xmas, not that I played it much... was more a media center / dvd player for the TV.
Is pretty bad MS didn't think to seat a heatsink properly
Will get fixed under warranty but WTF!!

Thank the stupid hippies. They switched to an "eco-solder" that was more "environmentally friendly". It has a lower melting point. Heatsink won't really save you.

-shrug- .. I got an Xbox just to play Forza 3 .. got one for my daughter and her family so they could play Dragon Age:Origins
..works for me :)

I'll vote Wii.
Everything the 360 and PS3 can do the PC does better whereas the Wii offers a completely unique experience.
That said, I'm not really a console guy. The last console I purchased prior to the Wii was probably a Sega Genesis.
Swinging the "club" in Tiger Wood 2010 for the Wii, however, has absolutely no peer.
-
PS3 of course like the best gaming commercial ever "with a stick".
-
Netflix announced today that it would start streaming movies to the Wii, so now all three consoles have Netflix.
I own a Wii. Its got its pros and cons, but overall, I like it.
-
I would say 360.
It is a rip off and expensive to run. But for the cash you fork out and the hours upon days you spend playing it makes it worth it.
The net support which you pay for is about $80 a year. With it you have to pay for everything else, but when its all out of the way your 360 and Xbox live will wipe the floor with everything EXCEPT "AH2".

Technically, you can make a 360 run AH2, and play it online :)
-
There are people that make their PS3 a super computer and you can even find videos of people putting 10+ PS3s together to make a super computer.
Just curious, shill what did you end up going with?

As long as you can put a Linux based OS on the console in theory it's possible. When I was still at Sony Online, the Compatibility Dept. had a PS2 set up with a Linux based OS (forgot which one) and used it to play Star Wars Galaxies, EQ, EQ2, Planetside and even WoW. It wasn't easy though, they had to work out some issues but in the end they got it to run those games and it did it rather well.
