Title: Saitek Cyborg X stick
Post by: Captain Virgil Hilts on December 28, 2009, 12:05:23 AM
I've got a new Saitek Cyborg X stick. I installed it (no software needed), calibrated it in Windows, and then calibrated and mapped it in a fresh install of AH II. It works okay, except for one glaring issue. I have "fire primary weapon" mapped to the trigger, and "fire secondary weapon" mapped to button two. On a very regular basis, I try to fire with either the trigger or button, or with both, and nothing happens. Sometimes after a second or so of holding the trigger and/or button(too late) the guns fire. Just as often, I have to press and release a time or two to get anything. Or they fire a short burst, or a round or two with the cannon, and stop. Unless saddled up really solid, I usually fire a one or two second burst at most. The trigger and buttons show as working fine both in Windows calibration and in AH II calibration. They work every time there. Just not in flight. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro, SP 4, fully updated.

Are you running with the Saitek software installed?  If so, unload it and try it.  By the way, you cannot press both buttons at the same time and have them work.  You will need to map the "Fire all weapons" to a button to fire all the guns at one time.

Nope, no Saitek software installed. Never liked their software. I had 2-3 of their sticks previously, and always mapped the trigger to fire primary, and button 2 to fire secondary, and used both buttons at the same time. But, I haven't flown at all in 6 months I guess, and never with this stick, so it may not work for me anymore.

Update: It appears that the problem is the stick itself. IF you pull on it hard enough to get to 50% deflection, the trigger and buttons 2, 3, and 4 stop working, or only work intermittently, and then take some time to begin working again. I took the stick apart (the grip and the head unscrew), reseated it, and tightened the crap out of it, now it appears to be fixed.

More testing soon. It appears that the trigger and button two will now work together.

I have a cyborg X and have the trigger mapped to the primary weapon and button 4 mapped to secondary. I can fire both at the same time.

My AV8R hat switch finally gave up the ghost so I went and bought this cyborg X thing.  Not really liking it...... the tripod base keeps trying to close over the course of a sortie as I operate the stick.  Very annoying.  Any way to lock the damned base in the open position?  Also, the throw on the rudder twist is killing my accuracy, and me.  I hope I can get used to the thing but my initial feeling on the stick is one of mild disappointment.

Mine now works fine, as far as the trigger and the #2 button go, they work just fine together.

I agree with Yeager, the rudder has a funny feel, but I think it can be adjusted with scaling, damping, and the dead band.

The stick is also really sort of stiff. Especially the centering spring. But the rudder is as well. I'd say that has a lot to do with the base closing, mine has a slight detent, and I haven't had it close up.

I have not tested it online, because the game locks up long before I can fly online, and I have to kill it with Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The game works just fine off line, just not at all online.

the base is definately the weak spot.  The plastic flexes under the normal tension of operating the throttles and the normal action of pushing the stick forward tends to want to push the two support arms back.  I cant believe saitek didnt build a lock into this collapsable base.  The actual stick is a beauty.  The base sucks pretty badly.  I am looking for another AV8R or something different.  this stick is not passing the test  :furious

Mine clicks when the base is fully extended out.  I have not had an issue with it folding in while I am using it.
