Title: TrackIR is dieing! :O
Post by: Latrobe on December 28, 2009, 03:32:40 AM
Don't know if there's a way to fix this, or if I just need a new one, but my TrackIR was acting up a bit. I couldn't look down unless I leaned foward, and when I looked left the head movement got all jumpy. So I took a look at tracking in TrackIR, here's what I saw..

Here's just looking forward. You can see the left one is not fully working, and the right one is also going.

Here's when I'm looking left (in game my view gets all jumpy)

Here's when I try to look down at my gauges.

They aren't dirty at all or even falling apart. Still looks just like how it looked when I opened the box. Is there a way to fix this, or do I need to but a new one?? Won't be able to play AHII until this is fix, and there's no way I can possibly go back to the Hat-switch for views after seeing TrackIR in use!  :(

Aside from pulling the USB connection to reset it, have you tried reducing it to 2 dimension Dot tracking and use one dot? I've been using the same 3Pro since 2003 with no problems like this.

Wipe the tapes clean mate, and recheck. Had a similiar problem once due to me having chocolate fingers and transferring it to them. Didnt seem like much, but had an effect.

(Dont get this now, got a track clip lol...)

Ooooo and they are pretty cheap! How reliable are they though? maybe I should get a pro  :O

Wiped the tapes with some cotton balls seems to have helped a little, but not too much of a difference.

Paid 39.99 for mine, much better than wearing a baseball cap to fly lol.........only problem I've found is in the cold weather, the neoprene contracts which causes it to slide down the headset. Fixed that with tape and no more problems.

*Edit - try cleaning the front of your camera as well mate - if you have any, use a screen wipe and that may help also*

That actually never crossed my mind, GOOD IDEA!  :aok

-- fixed everything but a small sot on the upper corner of the left tape, but it's not too big of a spot so it won't affect much at all.

The pro clip emits its own light so it's more reliable than the reflectors. With that though you have to wear a headset and it also has a usb connection for power.

I always wear a headset anyways, and I suspected it would use a USB just like the one I have now. I wonder, is it affected by any background lighting?? When I first hooked up the one I have now the camera was picking up sunlight reflecting off the planets behind me, so we put up a background curtain now. Then I noticed that when the window curtain heated up from the sunlight then it would do the same as the plants.

yes strong back ground lighting can still be a pain   when using the pro clip

I have wired mine to the top of my headphones and saved me from not having to buying the pro. I took a wire tie and pulled the plastic of of it and wrapped it around the top of the headphones. This may be able to be done with your headphones or it may slide on like it does the cap.You may have to bend it a little to get it right just use the tracking screen to make sure the dots are sitting right. I have never used the cap this was the first thing I did when mine came.
When someone stops over and sees that on the top of your head they ask what the hell is that,I tell them radar for the game helps me find a fight faster. :aok

Ya beat me to it Sir !
The pictures you posted matches mine, but my TRACKIR is still working properly.
What helped is putting blinds in the window just above my setup. The sun rays were coming in and reflecting on the white painted walls behind me  My TRACKIR was jumping all over and doin' free games :furious

All is fine now.

There is also the straw fix.
Get a drinking straw and some reflective tape.
Cut straw into desired length.
Slit straw.
Cover straw with reflective tape.
Place over corresponding spots on clip.

Since I have done this I rarely lose track.

Also turn up your light filtering.
