i have an idea.
what would you thing if every squad with some numbers of pilots is able to spawn an own battel cruiser and control it during the tur.
if no one is on-line, the cruiser is placed in a selected port.
if the Cruiser is in action and the last member of the squad goes offline the cruiser would return to his home port.
only squad members are allowed to control it or to jump into the guns. but joiners are allowed.
this would rise the see traffic and the see fighting fun.
and i think its nice to have something of your own you have to look at :-)
hope you like this idea, so we will see this some day

I don't understand. Besides being a large ship, what use would it be?

and i call dibs on the bismark

it is a nice artilery base or you can attack cv formations alon or with other squads as a task force :-).
for example.: the first of my squad who is online would start the cruiser out of the port to a hotspot. a hour later everyone of us is online and we will fight with it :-)

Can we invite other squads over for chow in the mess hall? :D

What use would it be? A battleship or battlecruiser would be a nice plump target for aircraft strikes, viz. Prince of Wales, Repulse, Arizona, Yamato, Musashi, Tirpitz, etc.
It's usually Mess[hall] for ratings[enlisted men], Wardroom for officers. Please model them on Royal Navy lines so we wouldn't suffer the horrors of 'dry' US Navy ships. <hic>
Splice the mainbrace.

Spent 6 years in the Navy. If you have ever ate their food, you will know that "mess hall" is a better descriptor! :rofl

the prince of wales was sunk by the bismark
thoagh true battle ships and battle cruisers are big targets for aireal (can't spell the previous word) assualts and not only that the have to stay farther away from land because of their size
destroyers however don't have the same problems but some new ones aswell 1) destroyer don't have the cruisers 8" armament and the battle ships 11"-16" armament but the destroyers have 5" guns that can blast out over 3,000 ponds of HE and 1,000 of AA per minute
now for a problem with the battleships 2)if the battleships they put in game are iowa class the the 16" guns turents are three-gun not triple tthree gun turents can aim their guns seperatly. I rest my case :salute :airplane:

Newly-commissioned Prince of Wales was hit by fire from the Bismarck when the latter switched targets after sinking the battlecruiser Hood but survived to fight another day. Prince of Wales and Repulse together formed Force Z and both were sunk off the east coast of Malaya on 10th December 1941 by G3M 'Nell' and G4M 'Betty' bombers of the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force.
-
-1 unless at the port there are clubs to go to for the Marine security detachment you will need, because the Navy things someone is gonna steal it.

must have mistaken Hood for 'Wales

and there are advantages to the idea it could open up more guns on the ship

So if you're not in a squad you don't get to play with the ships?
How about this idea instead: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,267254.0.html

you can join the ship as a joiner. like you join other people in flight. that was my idea.
maybe .join ship blackknights and you join the ship after geting permission of the squad co of xo

The real joke here is you spent six years in the Navy I spent sixteen in the Air Force and I called you a land lubber. :lol
Hats off to you, I can't stand being out of sight of the land. I'm glad there's folks like you that are willing to do it.

right somebody is gonna sit on the boat for the 3 hours that it takes to get anywhere.

+1 and people already already spend hours moving cv groups, tanks and heavy bombers from one end of the map to the other (not to mention those of us in the secret submarine service.... :noid ).

you dont need to sit in the cruiser all the time. you and your squadmates are only able to control it with its waypoints thats all.
maybe you can get an extra position on it were you are able to stick it direcktly if it is need.

Ummm.... navy vet here too. There are no "halls" on ships. Only passageways. And the proper name for it on a ship is "Mess Deck"... with the actual cooking area or kitchen being the "Galley". Now... if you are at a shore station, it can be referred to as a Mess Hall.
But all that aside... lets see if anyone can remember these food related terms and memories from the Navy (perhaps other military too):
* Pork Pucks: The "Pork Chops" that came in a can, and as a result were perfectly round.
* UBO - Unidentified Brown Object: The breaded patty that was named differently depending on what shade it was. Light = Chicken, Medium = Veal, Dark = Chicken Fried Steak. Also known as a "Multi Purpose Patty."
* Jet Juice: Eventually, some "Grape" will get JP5 in the ships drinking water. For the next month, the Bug Juice tastes like jet fuel.
* Starboard List Cakes: Even under the best of conditions, the ship never rests perfectly level when at sea. As a result, all the cakes baked in the galley are very thick on one end, and paper thin on the other. Dont worry though... the lard-like icing will even it out.
* Mid Rats: The box of mystery food that is handed out as "lunch" to the guys fortunate enough to work the 19 to 07 shift. Usually consisted of a soggy sandwich, an apple, and a box of Parmalat.
* Parmalat: The milk boxes that need no refrigeration. Lots and lots of sea stories as to why.
* Beer Day: 45 days at sea without a port call resulted in getting 2 tickets which could be redeemed for 2 warm Budweisers. Usually accompanied by a "Steel Beach" picnic. (I understand the time required for a "Beer Day" is 60 days now? )
* Gedunk: Anything edible gotten out of a vending machine. Usually candy or junk food.
* Slider: Hambuger cooked by the cooks in the galley. So named for its ability to "slide" across your plate due to the amount of grease dripping from it.
I'm sure there are others... just cant remember them right now. Been out for 15 years.
I now return you to the aforementioned thread already in progress.

Dont like the idea personally. What would be the point to have a ship that a squad "owns" for the tour? Just something to have? Nope. All I can see it leading to is a bunch of ships that never leave port because no one wants to lose them. That... and people complaining about it. Especially given that there are a lot of squads that dont always play on the same side for a whole tour. What... do they got a boat for each country? One for all 3 main arenas? No no no... way too much clutter.
True player controlled ships that anyone can spawn or control as previously mentioned seems like a better idea to me if we were to go down that road at all.
Besides, all it takes is one or two passes by your average buff driver and even the Bismarck or Yamato would be at the bottom of the bay. The first time one is spotted at sea, it's going to be like "Sink the Bismarck" by the rest of the arena until it is blown to bits. So... your battlecruiser that was supposed to last for the whole tour, is "Gone in 60 Seconds".

I'll kill it in 59 seconds... :D

the point is, we will get more see trafik
its more fun for ouer buff pilots
and it is no proble to lose them becaus the ship will respawn at his home port.
sure this ship would be an easy kill but if a squad keeps an eay on it its not so easy i belive.
and im sure there are alot of people who will lover there ship.
my idea was, you can controll the ship by way points and if its need you jump into the captains position and turn the ship how it is need.
and the other point is,
try to imagine alle the ships staying in a porty,
wold be fun to made som pearlhabor missions on a port hehe

(this is a dead thread broaght back to life :lol)here is an idea: a squad can have a Carrier, Battleship(when they come around), Cruiser, or Destroyer. the squad CO chooses the type of ship
