Title: 190 cockpit
Post by: niklas on November 16, 1999, 07:51:00 AM
I have a little problem with the cockpit of the 190- I canīt move back when i look forward (zoom away), so i can only watch my fuel gauge when i move down with my view.

When i look back i know why i canīt move back:-) : the seat is sooo close and soo big!

I feel a little bit like a sardine in a can when i sit in a fw190.
Why does the fw190 has such a bad back view? I always thought it offered a very good view to the pilot. AND it offered more space to the pilot than a 109 (pilots had to be not taller than 1.76cm (or was it even 1.73cm?) to fly the 109)

Is this a bug with the view (that i canīt move back when i look forward)?

I can use the down front key to look at my gas, and I modified my rear view so that when I look back my head is all the way up. This gives the 190 and excellent rear view.
I modified the rear left and right views so that they work better too.
When you do this I think you will get a more historical fw rear view.
Good luck

Do what Pongo said.

I did the same thing except I made the back view an "over the shoulder" view as if the pilot leaned forward and looked over his left shoulder.  This gives a clear view of the tail and really helps the immersion factor.

IMHO the Fw 190 cockpit is very accurately modeled in AH, the best of any sim.
If you have some pictures of the Fw 190 with the canopy open, they are misleading because the armor plate slides forward with the canopy.  So when the canopy is closed the armor plate comes up right behind the pilot.  The canopy has a linear taper from front to back.  The result is that you can't see around the armor unless you lean forward a bit or peer through the narrow gap between the armor and the canopy sides.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Aces of the Western Front, by John Weal, has some nice photos, as does Focke-Wulf Fw 190 in Combat by Alfred Price.

I suggested to natedog, that they would replace one of the compasses with the fuel gage.

Which one of them is more accurate though, cause they don't show exactly the same heading at least on my machine. My feeling is that the directional gyro is less accurate so IMO it should be replaced. In that event make the needle of the other compas a bit more visible as to which direction it is pointing to.

ups- i didnīt know so far that i can save for every sight a special head position.

I saved know my own head positions for the rear view at the 190, and now i have a perfect view back (i zoomed out to the max). I did the same with the spit, same result- almost perfect view to my six.
Iīm just wondering myself a little bit why htc is doing so much work in graphic design when i takes only 5 minutes offline work for a pilot to give him for every plane in AH a better rear view than a yak in WB!

Personally,I have sacrificed some view potential by zooming my views in to the point where i get the clostrophobic "feel" of being crammed into a very restricted cockpit area. While this does put me at a self-imposed view disadvantage-what I gain in feeling like Im in the cockpit (for me) is well worth it. Just because the sim allows an unrealistic view potential doesnt mean you have to use it. If a pilot neeeds the added advantage in his SA-so be it .The beauty of this view system is that you can get whatever you need out of it-enjoy-this sim ROCKS!

I'm having the same problem and feel its a bug. In normal view I cant see any dials below the compass in the 190 (view adjusted to max rear) ,and in zoom mode the gun sight fills most of the screen. I'm not moaning about the 190's view, I just think is outa wack by alot compared to the other planes (on my machine that is)

Bug what about the ammo counters don't you like?  I know they don't look like the real ones, but they work ya know.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I like more the historical ones. The vertical indicators w/o any numbers. The digit ammo counter doesn't feel too right!
