Title: Why Do You Always Warp When I'm About To Shoot?
Post by: ImADot on December 31, 2009, 12:34:26 PM
Not always because of cheating or cable-pulling or anything nefarious (not you Nef  ;))

It could simply be because:
His connection is slow.
His computer is slow.
The closer you get, the more packets are sent and need to get processed to update everyone's position accurately.
When you shoot, a huge increase in data packets is needed and the crappy connection/computer is overwhelmed.

Just sayin'

Maybe you wanted attention?
Maybe you wanted to be heard?
Maybe you wanted your post count to go up?
Wait, what am I doing replying to this thread?

Dangit, everything always turns around on you at some point.  :D :salute

Good post Dot  :aok

I think that the coding for this game is terrific (but I am a layman).  Honestly, the mesh of different connections and gaming equipment rarely interfere with smooth gameplay.  Stutters  :x , micro warps  :bolt: , and the occasional disconnect  :frown: are whiny topics considering how these things are brought about.  Dot explains them very concisely here.  So, the next time you encounter any of these problems, you might think of constructive comments towards the offender (on the order of: things that might help fix issues on his end).

I live in a rural area where the only available cable company will not service, and the DSL lines have not reached and won't for some time.  My only two options were Satellite and Radio Frequency (the third, dial-up is not cost effective, due to the number of lines and the at home business requirements - not to mention speed issue).

I ditched the Satellite connection after many reports of warping  :bolt: and ruining the game for someone else.  In that case the warps would land me in different positions entirely and occurred more frequently.

I stuck with the Radio Frequency RF connection which gives me a smooth connection but, constantly disconnects me after a few minutes of play.  So, bomber missions or long sortees are pretty much a thing of the past.

Keep this in mind, that not very many folks would (if they could even) prefer a crappy connection just to gain an advantage in AH2.  In other games maybe, maybe not.

One thing that may affect such shooting warping is whether one has "preload textures" on or off.
If the muzzle flash textures are loaded for the first time when one squeezes the trigger, there may be delay = warp. Thus a quick gun check before entering a fight or right after takeoff might also be helpful.

If varied opponents warp when you are about to shoot, the problem is most likely on your end.

You need to shoot sooner, just before he warps.

yup, can also be sounds or textures overloading your CPU or GPU RAM if it happens often but only when close (ie. firing range.)

worthwhile post :aok

If a man says something in the woods and his wife isn't around to hear it, is he still wrong?

ImAWarpr?

Negative.  I have a great connection and a machine that runs maxxed out (minus self-shadows) locked at 60fps to match my vsync, and have never been told I warp.  Well, except that one time by the guy who was warping around the other 4 of us that were flying around with no issues.

Just thought I'd share some reasons as to why people warp - based on all the threads I've been seeing of people accusing others of cheating because they seem to warp "just at the right time to avoid getting shot".

If a tree falls on a bear pooping in the woods while a 1973 Camaro traveling the speed of light drives by at midnight, does the tapedeck still have decent resale value?

If ANY woman is not around... and Yes, he's still wrong....so I've been told.
Equal Time= If a woman is alone in the woods and no one hears it, was she still B-tchie?  YES!   :x

You no longer have the option of having the preloaded textures on or off, they took it away when the new version came out, I emailed Skuzzy about it he said that in the new version it just automatically does it.
