Not for me. Good luck to you though!
-
I just had a smoke..
:devil
-
If it didn't bother so many people every time I light one up I'd have quit years ago.
Now I smoke just to tick people off.
I love the look on their faces when I pull out a new stick, clench it in my lips and bring up that shiny zippo...lol
The horror!
The HORROR!
-
No, but I'm gonna try and cut back, some days I'll smoke 3 packs, so gonna try and keep it to 1, it's getting to expensive.
-
Andy Roony has it right with his resolution. Which is. To not stop doing anything.
-
any day is a GOOD day to quit that filthy habit. Think of everyone who loves you and just stop killing yourself.
-
Ahh ,just reminded me to put a lite to my stogie :aok
-
I just bought a pound of tobacco the other day. I'll have to smoke that up, before I think about quitting.

Better quit the "filthy habits" of driving automobiles, eating any processed foods, eating fresh anything from a store, drinking tap water, eating any type of fish, talking on cell phones or cordless phones, taking any manufactured pharmaceuticals...blah blah blah...oh and don't forget to stop breathing unless you're using an oxygen tank.
Amazing, the things people overlook in their lives when they are trying "save someone"... :headscratch:
-
quite the wonderful attitude there. By all means quit breathing lol...
-
I have 1 cig left, after that, no more. Started smoking when I joined the USAF. Before, I used to run a 12 min 2 mile (pt score), now I get winded walking to the car. Good luck to all.

I've been thinking about trying the same HT. I've heard it gives you some pretty whacked out dreams. Sounds like a pretty successful product though.
-
I quit March 1st of 2008 by using Chantix. It really does what it says plus you get some really cool dreams. I even lost 10 pounds the 3 months I was on the pill. Good luck you can quit when times get hard just tell yourself " I have X number of days without one and don't want to start over at day 1". I still have to tell my self that at least two times a month still. :salute
-
I quit smoking back in May of 2003, it took me a couple tries but the Nicotine Gum is what got me to quit. I ended up chewing it for about 3 months and slowly titrated off it switching to regular gum.
I didn't quit because of health reasons but because of cost. I couldn't stand the fact I'd be giving the state more tax revenue. When I quit, cigarettes were close to $4 a pack in 2003. Well, the taxes have gotten so high on cigarettes that a pack is almost $8 now. Anyone to smoke even half a pack a day with those prices is a lunatic.
-
Good luck to all of you guys.
:salute

I'd like to retract that statement. I like the looks of these positive posts on this subject. It gives me hope. :)
-
I quit and start back every 2 weeks
-
Got up to two packs a day and had to quit. Spent $40 or so on the strongest Nicorette gum there is, 4MG, and had a piece whenever i wanted a smoke, which was basically all the time. But as soon as you chew the gum and all the nicotine hits not only do you not want to smoke you really can't smoke. I'd have so much nicotine in me I'd be hiccupping. About 2 or 3 days of that I was fine, although I do go through a lot of Tic-Tacs and cough drops now. Lot cheaper though, and now I can run again.
-
I had all but quit back in 04, I was down to 3 cigs a day. I had finished lunch and was getting ready to leave, when a suicide bomber blew himself up in our chow hall. I decided that it was not a good time to quit and, well that is the closest I have ever come to completely quiting. 1/2 a pack to a pack a day.
-
you can have my smokes from my cold dead fingers,

Ever feel like you just didn't get it? You had one of those moments...my comments were/are quite appropriate and correct...welcome to the world of staying informed. The health hazards of smoking are no worse than almost anything else people do in their daily lives...10 minutes in the garage with a running gasoline engine is worse than smoking a carton of cigarettes...we are exposed to so many health hazards in our daily lives and yet people want to point the finger at a single item. Drinking alcohol kills more people in a day than a truck full of cigarettes.
Fact is we "civilized" people ingest so many hazardous chemicals every day of our lives, voluntarily or not...it's a wonder we aren't all 2 headed.
:rock
smoking is a pointless waste of money. who really needs a cigarette anyway?
Actually, it's a known fact that the effects of the chemicals in cigarettes has the same effect on the brain that some addictive drugs have...and that's what causes the dependence. Drugs like Chantix actually block the receptors in the brain that causes the addictive response...takes a while for the brain to be "weened" and that's why the docs recommend 4 months of Chantix use (that and at $180 per 30 day supply, there is a tidy profit for the pharmacy).

how long does the coughing stay
-
how long does the coughing stay
Til your lungs heal as much as they can...depends on how long you have been smoking and adding to the lung damage with exposure to other chemicals...some people never get rid of the cough completely...last time I quit, the cough lasted a month.
-
When I was a kid it was quite common to smoke indoors. I guess no kids love doing the dishes, but what I really hated was to wash those little ashtrays. The smell of wet ashes was disgusting!
My dad quit smoking about a decade ago at his mother's funeral, without any pills, gums, stickers or toys. Just a man's decision, and a real man stands behind his decisions, as he says. :salute He started at the age of about 12, and even got it accepted by his father, because it made him feel less hungry. Getting cigarettes in Germany in the late Forties was easier and cheaper than getting food for a family with eight children... He is now 74, but due to his healthy manner of living, I still wouldn't win him in arm wrestling! OTOH I've always been a weakling...
Non smoking doesn't hinder social life, I've been going 'round the corner for a smoke with the guys since my schooldays without ever smoking myself.
-
Cyrene, running a gasoline engine for ten minutes in a closed room IS more dangerous, so much so that you'd never do it again. Smoking a box of cigarettes, on the other hand, you're gonna want to do it again.
As to alcohol, look at the death rate per thousand, you'll see that smoking kills more.

Actually 10 minutes you could still walk away...don't ask how I know. When was the last time you heard of a person being killed in an accident due to the driver smoking too many cigarettes?? The stats on the annual number of deaths related to cigarette smoking that the public gets pushed in their faces leaves out the massive amount of information per person related to overall lifestyle, genetic background, eating habits, environmental contributors at home and in the work place...not to mention the fact that Americans are so bent on what everyone else is doing, we don't pay attention to the crap we do to ourselves.
You should do some cross reference research on the diseases associated with cigarette smoking and the large number of other things that are known or suspected of contributing to the same diseases...including lung cancer. For instance, the chemicals released into the air by arc welding are known to be poisonous and carcinogenic...yet wearing a filtration device is not mandatory. Gasoline and gasoline fumes are known to be carcinogenic but you are not required to wear any protection when at the gas pumps or putting into your lawn mower...imagine a lifetime of exposure to that stuff as a refinery worker or gasoline delivery driver. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and the related compound butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are often added to foods to preserve fats...but no one advertises the fact that both are possible contributors to some types of cancer. There is a fungus found on roses that when ingested in any manner can cause an untreatable form of cancer.
Smoking ganja is known to be more harmful to the lungs than cigarettes...yet light up a joint and no one will wrinkle their noses and say "that's a nasty habit".
I'm willing to bet before we started polluting our environment and our food with dangerous substances...the per capita number of deaths related to cigarette smoking was far less than those related to alcohol consumption.
-
I'm glad I never took up smoking. When asked if I smoke by smokers... they always say "Good, I wish I hadn't, it's an expensive addiction"
-
We're all big kids in DuxWing, Penguin, with only two hard-and-fast rules: have a good time online; and no po-faces in the Mess. These days, this ol' cat finds relaxed enjoyment of a very good cigar and a glass of good cheer infinitely more comfortable than preaching to sprogs from atop a soapbox, so please indulge me.

I involuntarily quit smoking on June 30th,2007. I remember the date well because I woke up the next day with the onset of a stroke. Droopy mouth, slurred speech, right side weakness, yada yada yada. It got progressively worse and I ended up in the hospital that morning. I didn't return home until the middle of August. I won't bore you with the details but, suffice to say, I still go to rehab 3 times a week. If I didn't have the stroke I'd probably still be smoking and promising my family that I was going to stop "real soon". I don't judge those who smoke, it's their choice. All I can say is, I felt real selfish for everything I put my family and friends through. I'll never smoke again out of respect for them. The scary part is that I still get the urge to smoke, after 2 1/2 years. Best of luck to all of you who decide to quit.
-
All this talking of smoking makes me want one so I will walk outside and have one.

6 month's smoke free with the e-cig ...
