Title: Your Next Toy?
Post by: Halo on January 01, 2010, 01:21:35 AM
Warning: Shallow greedy consumer post follows:

Santa has come and gone; we continue to wish for world peace and everlasting gobsmacking virility, but it's never too early to also start making a toy list for 2010.

For example, in 2009 we got our first electronic reader, a Kindle, and are enjoying it as cutting edge although certainly not yet any replacement for printed media.  In 2010 we'll look closer at netbooks and smart phones.

What toys can't you wait for December to add?  :headscratch:

I added a cane last week.

The way things are going, it'll probably be a wheelchair.

I'm hoping for one of these, but I doubt I'll bring myself to actually spend the money on it.

I'll probably get myself a .22 rifle though, still fun and I can actually afford to shoot it.

I am going to order a Browning X-bolt in .300 Win Mag or .270, and probably going to upgrade my duck hunting gun after this season.

I sent the photo to the wife on December 24th. Was on my desk 2 days ago. Now to figure out how to make an RC version of that thing.

If I were doing similar I'd go for the Savage Weather Warrior, gotta love the Accutrigger and the new stocks.

Here's an R/C Opsrey...  A little cosmetic adaptation and there you go...  (Wouldn't be quite that easy, but certainly a starting point)

Haven't even considered Savage.  I'll have to look into that.

What Seraphim said with one change.  Instead of the Bushmaster Varminter upper (24") I'm going with the Predator which is 20" for the lower I just built up.  I fell in love with the Bushmaster trigger a buddy of mine has on his Varminter I got one for myself.  Add to that I hope to get my stamp to have a fully legal Short Barrel Rifle in the next couple/few months so I can mount a 10.5" LMT upper on yet another lower that is just waiting for a mate.

All I'll need is ammo.  Lots and lots of ammo.

One heck of a choice there- .270 is good for knocking down elk but isn't possesed of too beastly a recoil, whereas .300 Win mag is an acceptable AAA round.

My next toy big purchase will be either this:

Sony SAL-1635Z 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* Autofocus SLR Lens

Or this:

Sony SAL-70400G 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM Autofocus Lens for Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Series

I can save enough to get one this year, maybe the other in 2011, can't decide which I want first though.

I wanna get the 16-35mm to replace my replace 6x7 film system for landscape work, (I still love the 6x7 just becoming more, and more of a pain to process, and scan film, and it's a heavy beast)

But I also wanna get the 70-400mm to replace my current long lenses, which are not nearly as good as the Sony "G" lenses.  Either way I'll have to sell some other gear to afford either.

I am getting a flex tool grinder to modify as a tool post grinder for my 1946 South Bend lathe. It is destined as the cylinder and crankshaft grinder. that and a couple hundred pounds of raw steel for the engine....

Kevin

Hmm...but nothing that can transition into fwd flight like the 22. Makes me wonder, if they did a UDF in an external pod like the old bell experiments.

Something like this - (http://www.vstol.org/images/VSTOLWheel/pics/06.jpg)

My new toy I have to ask for a different way.....

Give me, my god, what you still have;

give me what no one asks for.

I do not ask for wealth, nor success, nor even health.

People ask you so often, God, for all that, that you cannot have any left

Give me, my God, what you still have Give me what people refuse to accept from you.

I want desolation and suffering; I want turmoil and brawl.

And if you should give them to me,my God, once and for all,

let me be sure to have them always,

for I will not always have the abandon to ask for them.

Id play with that alot ;)

After I get my Gerber FAST Covert, I'm probably going to 'invest' in a tactical shotgun for HD use.

Learn to shoot better then :D . Seriously a well placed shot should take an animal down, plus you get less meat damage without resorting to portable cannons.

Yeah I got an ole' Ithaca 12ga. from way back. I'd be on a budget for the shotty...though I'd like to get a cheap 870 and mod the gun myself (buy own stock, etc) I think I might just get a cheap Charles Daly at the local sports shop.

Just bought my new toys but only have one ready to go right now. I bought 2 Remington Model 7 .308 and 1 .30-06 for myself and my two sons. The other two will be ready to go within the next month since I have to get a couple of scopes and rings to mount on them.
