Title: In the AvA this week: The Continuation War
Post by: Mister Fork on January 01, 2010, 02:37:21 PM
Welcome to the Finnish/Russan Continuation War

Finnish forces have been pounding Soviet forces as they attempt to retake land from the unfair treaty from the Winter War of 1939.

This new Continuation War has had consequences, including a promise of the current Finnish president to accept German arms as long as Finland doesn't accept any peace treaties from the Soviet Union.  But how long can this aggreement last between Hitler and Ryti?  Finland wants to end the agreement with Nazi Germany but needs to recapture 10% of her lands from the horrible Moscow Treaty. To make matters worse, he's getting pressure from Britian and the US to expel both Soviet and Nazi forces but they're not offering any financial or military assistance.  Perhaps the time will come to expel both German AND Soviet forces from the homeland?

Soviet Forces - Bishop
Finnish - Knights

Arena Settings
NOE - 500 feet for no radar
Wind - Various altitudes with turbulance
Downtimes - 60 minutes for hangars, AAA 30
Field Capture - 15 troops
All others AvA Norms

Happy New Year from the AvA Staff!

Hey Mister Fork....

Dropped in the other day in the AvA and was repeatedly shot down with no challenge to the opponent  :o
Plane set was not my favorite but that's ok. I'm a Spit dweeb.  ;)

What I liked was the "icon" being turned "off" under certain alt !
Now THAT WAS A CHALLENGE !  :rock

I was dancin' with my pony vs a 109 ! I believe it was FUD.
That was hard and you had to really concentrate/focus trying to NOT LOSE SIGHT of him !
His chosen paint scheme camouflaged mixed with the terrain. No "red icon" !

Get some feedback from others and maybe raise the ALT to 5k !Adding realism would certainly make the SWEEPS/PATROLS very intense !

Loud BANGS on my startboard wing. When I looked back, the only thing I saw was Black crosses.
That was cool ! Scared the CRAP out of me but chuckled afterwards !  :rofl
Nothing more fun to creep up on the pilot not expecting you  :devil

Just a thought
Good work Sir !

Phil,

Great post!  I have always had a different view on icon range, but listening to your viewpoint I am drawn to the combat cockpit immersion perspective.

My icon "range" complaints in the past refer to the difficulty in finding fights on a scarcely populated map.  I wonder if the range could ever work in reverse, say icon visible at greater distances (not altitude) like 2.5k to 5k and below and above that range not visible.  The best of both worlds in my opinion.

As it is though, I agree this could be a major draw for newer AvA enthusiasts who might have the desire for more immersion.

:salute Hope to see you in the AvA skies, and be able slip in   :noid undetected on your 6  :airplane:   Most likely you will hear my old bones creak  :old: and give away any such surprise  :joystick:

Just to add to the "ICON" issue....

In AvA you have one country vs country.
You don't end up fighting the same plane on the other side.
Having said this, every bogeys you see, communication with teamates are a MUST !

That what makes the battle more intense !
3 little dots   Friendly :pray or Foe :(

I have no friends...... turn the dang killshooter off  :neener:  Just kidding about KS, I think it was said somewhere that the Earth's poles would reverse and the water in my toilet would start turning in a different direction if KS was EVER turned on.
