This may be just me talking, but I have a suggestion. On the skins for the aircraft, why not have it to where if you make a skin then you and only you can fly it until it is accepted by Hitech? If I remember right there can only be 15 active skins per plane. The same logic would still apply on it being historically accurate. And perhaps maybe if this happened then they could be chosen by the members as to which ones get priority in the next rotation on skins for the plane. It could also be done in a file sharing basis to where you download only the skins you want, that way you can have more active ones to chose from instead of them just being in sets like now. Does anyone else think this would work?
-
Nope... Making skins isn't for everyone. Allowing something like that would cause all kinds of issues.

Which part? I know alot of people dont know how to skin but it would give the ones who do the chance to show and use them in the online arenas. Thats why I kinda changed it to having it more of an option of which ones you can download. I think that if you submit a skin to Hitech and they approve it, then it gets put up as an individual download from the site. There would be no waiting possibly years for your skin to show up if you can choose which ones you want to download.

First all skins must meet historic accuracy. By allowing the creator to fly it without approval has the chance to have "unreal" skins in the game.
Also, and based off of the first thing, HTC would need to spend more time policing the new skins instead of writing code.
Now with all that said.......... I would love to see non-historic skins and thus opening the door for all of us to create skins that we'd like to fly.

Every time you see a plane your computer needs to render and catche the skin.
3000 skins.....

A first approval would be required for any skin submission to be used in a game. The submission process would basically remain the same, only they would be stored as downloads for people to choose from.

The difference between 15 or 1500 skins would be marginal, I dont see 3000 skins being made or even 1500. It would not slow down the processing speed for the game to recognize it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were 1500 skins if the most popular planes didn't fill up so fast... there's still 26 P51D skins not in game, and that's after Skuzzy told people to stop :)
And loading the skins into the cache can cause stutters on some machine.

I think all skins accepted by HTC should be on the downloads page. Then each individual would be able to pick the 15 he/she wants to see. This way some skins wont have to wait months or years to be put in game. This would also be helpfull for squads that have had their historical skins accepted but not put into rotation. And the only argument to the 'memory useage' from all the skins is already in game. If someone doesn't have a skin in their top 15 they just see the default skin of that plane. Ill give you an example.
Person A is flying with P51D skin ''353FG/352FS by Fencer''
Person B doesn't have that skin in his/her top 15 so sees person A flying in the default P51D skin.
Person C does have that skin in his/her top 15 so is able to see the skin.

I like that idea Larry, also on the HTC page, a small picture of the skin for one to choose the skins they desire.

But it's not set up as what you want to see but what you want others to see on your aircraft. If it's about what you want to see on your aircraft then it doesn't really matter as you will be the only one to see it.

And I'm happy with being the only one to see it when I'm flying it. When I pick a skin to fly its because I like it not because I want others to see it.

I think the whole idea is of just downloading the skins you want is the way to go. So far the reasons I have heard against it are laughable. The computers would recognize the skins just as fast as they do now. It is the same as if I showed you the numbers 1, 23, 45, 17, 109. You recognize only the numbers you are shown, not all the numbers in between. To say all the skins would cause computers to slow is just ridiculous.

They cause stutters rendering for some now....
So much for reality.

No they dont. How do you think they are causing issues? It doesnt matter one way or the other how many skins there are, if you only download the ones you want it would be no different then now.

I still think it would work, and relatively little effort to change it to where we can choose our skins.

then you have to change the Dragon and his tail markings. That B-24 had the Dragon head on 1 side of the aircraft (left side) and its tail wraped around the bottom and up the right side of the rear fuselage

Bit of a bump but I wanted to throw this idea back up here.
I didn't agree at first, as I like knowing that others see what skin I'm in and vise versa. But flying in historical squadron, a lot of the fun comes from the historical immersion. The prospects of possibly having a skin for every known plane from the real life squadron is far too attractive.
So a solid +1 from me.

Like the Australian p51d skin that was accepted 2 years ago.

See, if we could just download the skins we want then everyone would be happy. No more skin rotations, just click a link..............seems to easy.

Then, you come across a Bish mission with forty-seven P-51s all with different skins and sssttuuuuttterrrrr as each individula skin renders, over and over.
If only you are going to see the skin, of which you can only really see the wings while you're flying, what difference does it make what skin you are flying?
