It's an airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin put on by the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) every year.

A few years ago I saw a short documentary on Airventure hosted/narrated by Harrison Ford, it was a good, Harrison flew his De Haviland Beaver cross country to Oshkosh.  Can't find it now, but it was posted online somewhere, an EAA chapter website I think.

I also saw a documentary on PBS about Oshkosh too, it was done the year that the P-51 pilot was killed when he collided with his wingman on landing, quite sad.

I've always dreamed of building an RV-8 and taking it to Oshkosh, maybe someday... ...  :airplane:

A couple locals built a Beaver or Otter float plane and flew it to Oshkosh from NY.

it's simply a very large LARGE airshow in the aforementioned location of Oshkosh, Wisconsin USA. I've never been there but according to a friend of mine who has flown a Thorp to Oshkosh from Virginia twice says it really is exhausting to walk past the thousands (not an exaggeration) of aircraft that show up there...  :D

It makes for an interesting lunch break though.  I work across the highway from the end of one of the runways.  It's nice to see the warbirds taking off and landing going right over your head...

I try and get there every year for at least one day, then head up to Green Bay/Door County for a few more days, one year coming back home the wife and I stopped at the outlet mall on a Saturday morning across the highway.

To my suprise I'm sitting by the car having a smoke letting the wife do her shopping and up comes one bird after another lifting off going home.  It was the only time in 32 years of marriage of shopping with her that I told her, ya go ahead honey take your time.

It would be the largest airshow in the country.  Got to go with work a couple of years ago and there were over 15,000 aircraft there during the week.  Was talking with one of my good customers from Australia and he said there are not even 15,000 aircraft on the Australian registry.  Truly amazing place an awseome time for someone that loves aircraft.

I've been there a few times, do you work at that car lot right across the highway mtn?  Seems like they'd get a great view.

Yes, AirVenture is the largest air show/fly-in in the country.  Have not been yet, but I do volunteer at the second largest.  Sun 'N' Fun fly-in in Lakeland, FL in April.

I grew up in Neenah and my brother (who now flies for Southwest) used to take me every year for about 4 years straight during the early 90's.  I went back 2 years ago and really took in a lot more than what I can remember as a kid.  Got there at 8 am and you don't stop walking until the afternoon airshows really.  Even with plenty of sunscreen I got a good tan.

I found that Harrison Ford movie I was talking about, Spirit of Aviation.  I think it's well done and worth your while if your interested in Airventure, it's about 18 minutes.

I swear I originally found it on an EAA chapter website, where it was much higher quality, but I cannot locate that anymore.

No, I actually work at a plastic films company on the other side of Hwy 41.  Some big red metal buildings.
