As the sun welcomed a new day in the Wilds, we ..
..Alistair, Sten, Wynn, and I, ..Fuddthoo the Mage and Grey Warden,
..confronted Flemeth.
It was a fight to the death and she came near to ending us all,
yet at the end, Alistair put the steel to her in a feat of daring that took our breath.

Thanks for spoiling it for me! :furious

Why are you beating up on that poor innocent dragon?
-
I haven't finished it yet, but I hear that's one of the toughest fights in the game. I finally did it with Shale, Wynne, and Leliana. Shale went in close to keep her occupied while Leliana and my P/C hammered her with ice arrows, and Wynne supported.
Used a similar strategy against Gaxkang the Unbound, although I added Alistair to my archers and didn't carry a mage. That one wasn't so much tough as it was grueling, and it sucks because he's virtually COMPLETELY immune to any CC spell.

that was probably the dweebiest thing I've ever read from you. :)

umm.. 'Flemeth' isn't end game .. just a side quest

'cute lil flappy' Fudd coo'd at the Pissed Off Dragon, in an attempt to cool it's ire.
It wasn't havin any, wizards are crunchy when flamed and taste good.

There's something just...wrong about Wynne being in the overly-sexy fantasy mage robes in that pic.
-
I haven't finished it yet, but I hear that's one of the toughest fights in the game.
I found High Dragon most difficult, even over Archdemon. May be because she was first dragon I slay, and I didnt know best way to fight it.
btw, finish game just today, it was quite exhausting at the end. :o
-
The High Dragon is one of the toughest fights in the game.
I found the strongest character to be a Blood Mage with little willpower and full health. It is a little tough until you hit level 8 or so, but by far the most powerful. He was able to solo Flemeth and walks right through the whole game.

The Arcane Warrior is the strongest of all the classes, with the Blood Mage coming second and the Soul Reaver bringing up the end.

I don't know I got the game, Graphics are pretty intense but I really don't like the control setup, don't get me wrong I like the way you set "tactics" for your party members, I Think it would be way more immersive if you had to use the controls when you took over a member, I want to swing my own damn sword through my own fire ball, it would be way better if it was like that IMO.
to me it takes out all the fun when "your" Character does his moves "automatically"

The Dragons were not that bad but i waited till i was leveled alittle bit. I also had two sets of the dragon scale armor which helped a lot. You can just stand there in the fire. I wasted a bit on Leliana level up didn't know that you could use her cunning for strength.\
Have any of you used the Bard ability on Leliana. You can take on the biggest hoards.

Drgn,
I use some of the Bard buffs periodically, but I mostly rely on her archery and rogue combat skills.

Both games are different enough that they really don't compare, though Demon Souls is far the more hard core RPG type player than Dragon Age.

Am going through dragon age now.
Did play Baldur's gate some years back so the console is not so bad.
How hard is this game on "easy"??
-
In part it depends on how you play. If you plan to breeze through it just by chucking fireballs at everything, you're probably going to have a rough time of it. You have to approach each fight with an eye towards strategy.
-
yassir .. small unit tactics .. need some :)
ie: don't stand in a bunch in front of a pissed off dragon :)
(know how I know?)
..and ya .. the first dragon you fight is 'memorable' no matter what the settings are.
I went to easy settings when I got wacked 12 times trying everything I could on that first Ogre in the tower before I finally got him.
Figured if this was 'normal' I would be at this for months!!.. 'click' .. easy engaged .. and now an then it's still not a cake walk, you gotta pay attention to what yer crew is doin :)
(and I hate 'revenants' too .. they suck!)
-GE aka Frank
-
I managed to deal with the Ogre the first time through while only losing the Circle Mage. The first time you fought one was REALLY a grind. After that? Well, once I got Morrigan in my party with Cone of Cold there was nothing to 'em (the Alphas are brutal, though).
Revenants are DEFINITELY a pain, massive damage AND massive damage resistance, and they resist all of your de-buffs, but once again Cone of Cold is your friend.
-
This is my first role playing game I've ever played. Needless to say I'm totally lost! In the beginning, I wasn't sure if I should concentrate on 2 nanded weapons, sword & shield, archery, or what should be a priority when it came to setting up my character. But, after a few re-starts in the game, I'm getting the hang of it. Graphics and game play are amazing. I just hit level 14. I can only imagine how difficult the dragons are going to be.
Great game though. And I had no idea you could control all of the players. How the heck do you do that? I've noticed that my rogue always switches weapons when I dont want her. It's ticking me off lately.
-
Obie,
You can either turn the AI for your party members off and control them manually, or you can customize it to how you want them to behave during the fight. To control them manually you click on either your party member or their portrait on the left, and can then tell them to do something (attack, use a Talent, etc.) as if they were your own character.
As far as which weapon sets to go with, it really sort of depends on how you intend to use your character in a fight:
Two-handed weapons cause massive damage with each hit, but are VERY slow (actually, greatswords ESPECIALLY are TOO slow. Stupid D&D mentality.... I'm irritated by the lack of a fast but less damaging 2H option like a TRUE longsword or even a reasonably accurate greatsword). Many of their abilities are what's called "Crowd Control," in that there's a lot of knock-down and stun techniques, and abilities that "De-Buff" a target (think opposite of a power-up: They temporarily reduce the target's attack ability, armor rating, etc). You also have two more powerful attacks (Crit Strike and Mighty Blow) which have a chance to shatter frozen or petrified enemies, which can make some fights a LOT easier. All 2H talents are based on STR so you want to focus most of your stats here on level up (once again, I don't like how DA:O handles 2H weapons at all....) You're going to be using a LOT of your special abilities with a 2H warrior, so you either want to sink a couple points into Willpower, or go with lighter armor than what you would with sword and shield.
Sword and Shield is essentially your tank: Their purpose is to get the enemy's attention and absorb damage. To that end, while there's four offensive abilities, most of the shield talents improve your defense by reducing/eliminating your flanking zone, (the area on your character susceptible to back-stab attacks) increasing your missile defense, general defense buffs, protecting against knock-down's, etc. Load them up with the heaviest armor you can find and use them to get the attention of the enemy. Some shield talents require moderate DEX so you need to be sure to put some points here, however you also want high STR so you can equip the heaviest armor possible.
Dual-wield is pure DPS (personally, dual-wield is almost ALWAYS over-powered above what it SHOULD be). Most of its talents are intended to deliver a ton of damage as fast as possible. High DEX is advisable here. Keep in mind that the AI by default targets opponents wearing the heaviest armor and inflicting the highest DPS, so it's REALLY easy for a Dual-wield to get the attention of enemies in a fight with how fast you cause damage (mages can have that same problem. High-damage area of effect spells can get an ENTIRE enemy mob chasing your mage around oblivious to your melee characters whacking away at them). Because most of your stat increases are probably going to DEX to keep up with the talents you MAY not have the armor to take the punishment.
It's REALLY hard to make a primary archer character because at SOME point you're going to end up in melee range, and almost all your archery talents are very slow to execute. Which is fine by me, because the "Melee Archer" prevalent in RPGs is absolute RUBBISH. I HATE seeing that in games. Instead I use it as a secondary weapon whenever I can't, (because of a lingering AoE spell) or don't want, to close against certain enemies (archers are VERY effective against Flemeth, Gaxkang if you have a tank to aggro them while your archers hammer away, and the Brood Mother if you pick the right spot to fight her). There's some pretty useful talents, though. Pinning Shot and Splinter Shot can make for good crowd control, and hitting a frozen or petrified enemy with Critical Shot or Arrow of Slaying has a chance of shattering them which can make some tough enemies a LOT easier to deal with. Archery talents and the bows require moderate to high DEX, so you may not have the stats to use the heavier armor if you plan on focusing on all the archery talents.
-

First Ogre is "boss" (orange), others are "lieutenants" (yellow) but Alphas. I played w/o Morrigan and havnt any problems with yellow orges (on normal, main char with 2H sword).
Revenants are DEFINITELY a pain, massive damage AND massive damage resistance, and they resist all of your de-buffs, but once again Cone of Cold is your friend.
First few Revenants was a pain for me, but if you use ranged attacks and leave only tank on him, it becomes not so hard. In this way you need to heal only one person. In second half of game i just rushed on them and kill relatively easy.

Thanks Sax. I guess I have to play with the settings a bit more.
Does anyone here play with mods? And not the nude skins. I'm not 14 and could care less for cartoon porn.

I've got some mods installed like the one that puts a quartermaster in your party camp so can store things without having to travel to Warden's Keep and I also have a raven in my camp that allows me to respec my skills at any time while in camp. Also use the mod that changes Morrigan's appearence to what you see in the commercial trailers.

No mods the first time thru. Female -Human --Mage=Arcane warrior... game was not that bad on normall....
Second time thru im playing with mods. Graphics are nice but movements are not very well done characters are too rigid for me.. minor detail tho.
End game was the easiest part. All you have to do is heal the guys that come to help....Frees up your whole party to just attack. Id dare say i would wonder what the game would be like with out the freeze spells.
I'm playing thru this time as a female human rouge...Sweet Bioware gave me a special dagger... im sure anyone gets it....after playing thu one time?
only mod i have is a belt with +4 to all abilitys.
I am going to look for the raven mod AK AK spoke about.. Do they make on so you can respec your abilitys?
I did play with the Addons Stone warrior,,,and the other one cant think of it right now. Soldiers peak i think.
Was hoping for a few hiiden Easter eggs that were worth a hoot...nothing to speak of really....

Hello you dweebs!
I actually bought the digital collectors edition, even though I was badly dissapointed at the marketing of the DLC's, which of two should have been part of the game itself. Though, I couldn't resist it when it was being sold for 5 euros over at EA's online store. Talk about a christmas discount.
-
There was supposed to be another DLC released today but it's been delayed at least a couple of weeks and in March a full fledged expansion is being released. The DLC that was released was going to allow you to return to Ostagar and look for the King's body.

I did download a skin to make Leliana look a little more normal instead of a pasty white ghost. Not bad, but I'll have to look more for the better mods.
Here's the website: www.dragonagenexus.com (http://www.dragonagenexus.com)
Ack, where did you find that mod to respec your character? The mod name will help me look for it.

I have probably deleted 30 characters so far .. LOL .. tryin different things.
I highly recommend the Strategy Guide ..the first time thru some of the puzzles was fun to figure out, but ..the 2nd and up I just look 'em up and go. I have yet to get into the landsmeet or some such .. deleted Fudd and make Oot, human noble,
..it's Oot when he was 17..just a kid with a 2 hander ..before his adventures in so many other games :)
I love the origin stories.
I get a huge kick out of Morrigan constantly bashing Alistair ..LOL.

Thank you Ack-Ack. This will help considerably.
Drea, I would recommend the strategy guide, like Greyeagle said, It helps immensely.
If you can describe what and where you are at in the quest, I can look it up and try and help you. But it won't be till the morning (I'm at work). Or you can go onto the Bioware social network. It's a dragon age bbs. But there are way too many crazy people on there. Even more crazies than here.
Yesterday, Bioware announced a full expansion pack. http://dragonage.bioware.com/awakening (http://dragonage.bioware.com/awakening)

Couple of weeks ago the game was on an insane one day sale in the EA Store web site for a mere 4,5 euros (that's $6.5). I bought it immediately, but haven't had yet the time to start playing it :)
-
Don't.
It will either take away your life, or your time in AH :D

I have yet to figure out how to do an Arcane Warrior .. says somethin about the 'presence' in Brecilian forest ruins but I missed it on my several times thru there I guess :)
-GE
-
-spoiler- for Arcane Warrior :)
-found it
Location: Brecilian Ruins
Floor: Lower Ruins
Map: Middle Right; left section of two outstretching quarters.
Landmark: Broken Stone Altar; the section looks like a ruined library with a broken altar. If you see this land mark and it specifically says "Broken Stone Altar", then you are in the correct room.
Position: It is hidden in the shadows of that room; it's not sparkling, so just use your controller on the area across from the broken altar, next to the headless statue if you are playing on a console. If you are playing on a PC press tab to highlight all interactable objects in the room.
Item: Phylactery. When you touch it you experience the memories of the last elven arcane warrior who has remained trapped inside of the phylactery for centuries. He offers to teach you the secrets of the Arcane Warriors in exchange for setting his spirit free by placing the phylactery on an ancient altar. While the spirit of the elf has been imprisoned for so long that it forgets where the altar is located, the altar is actually right beside the phylactery. By destroying the phylactery, you unlock the Arcane Warrior specialization for the mage.

Yes there but it depends on whether or not the mod maker packed the files using the updater file extension. In your Dragon Age folder, there is a file called DOAUpater.exe (or something like that) that will load the mod files that use a special .zip extension into dragon age and you'll see in the download content section within the game.

yeah, but from what I've read (just started looking into some of these mods), the game's updator only installs the mods - it cannot uninstall them. The DAModder will do both, but as you point out it only works if the mod-maker created their mod with this in mind.

I just finished the end game for the first time .. felt like I just watched a great movie :)
What a great storyline .. wide open for sequels to come.
As Oot, a human noble, it felt *good* to lay the smack down on Howe, Loghain, and his mouthy lootenant girlfriend.

Just beat it, and I was surprised at the simplicity of defeating the arch-demon. :/
Call in the Steel Golems, have them pre-occupy anything that comes your way while you have your party range it out. ;)
Personally, I used my mage, Morrigan, Allistar and Wynne (gotta have a healer ;)). If all else fails, had my mage use cone of cold to freeze it up, then either Wynne or my mage used Stonefist to make shards of whatever it was ;). Gave Allistar a bow with some exploding arrows, and Wynne and Morrigan, well, they were mop up. ;)
Am I the only one forseeing that the next Dragon Age will have something to do with the Arch-demon's soul?
AND, thought I should give you all this as well. :D

A little healing is nice. but really you will have Morgian and the old lady whats her name.. for that. remember you get to use you magic for strength when u become arcane warrior if u go that route.

Arcane Warrior. It's the strongest class in the game, as good as any of the melee classes and still able to use magic. If you really want to be uber, Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage is the perfect combo and you can solo the entire game without having to take any party members with you.

I busted a gut when Sten was talking to Morrigan about "it". "The poker will have to be red-hot or it may not get my attention..." or something like that. :rofl
Sten had so many great lines as it is. Like the conversation where Leliana reveals she caught him picking flowers. :D
