Title: B17 ammo loadout
Post by: MrRonin on November 21, 1999, 06:50:00 PM
Its been mentioned on-line, but for the record:

B17 loadout of ammo is way too small IMO. I understand the fighters not wanting otto anymore, but it really seems the "real" gunners aren't getting a fair shake.

the ammo load out for the guns on the 17s may by accurate.  A few nights ago on the History Channel they had a show about air power, featuring bombers.  One of the bits in this show was about the Memphis Belle, first 17 in the 8th to complete a tour.
Anywho at one point the person narating the story (from the pilot's POV) mentions the .50s, saying something about the ammunition is cheap (.06/rd I think I he said) but they only carry 1000rds for each gun.  I would like to see ammo counters in the gun stations (even though it's not that realistic =) just so I know when I'm about to run out.  It's a real pain to have a bandit about to run up your tail and you squeeze the trigger and only hear the dull click of the trigger.

At its current level a B17 still has little chance, but an ammo counter would be good (at least the real gunners could see their belts and tell if they were getting low :')

Yeah I saw a movie about that plane and they had 1000 rounds on them but the copilot came with a create full of bullets so the guns could have 1000 each and then a shared create

The ammo loadouts on the B-17 are historic.  We do plan to add ammo counters to those positions.
