Title: Flaps deployment speed for the 109 too low?
Post by: niklas on June 16, 2001, 10:33:00 AM
Hello

This is a part from a 109F1/F2 report:

Itīs in old german letters, and says:
Maximum allowed speeds:
a) with flaps FULL lowered: 300km/h (185mph)
b) with gear down: 350km/h  (217mph)

At the moment the 109 can lower the first stage of the flaps at ~160mph, the gear at ~180mph

I know that we donßt have a F1/F2 in the game, but the wing design didnīt changed very much in the following versions, right? In opposite, wasnīt the wing even strenghtened for the G-series?

Anyway, pyro can you fix it? The current speed to lower the flaps completly is really a bit low for the 109 at the moment.

thx
niklas

S!

What we are missing here too is the radiator flaps. They could be deployed on ANY speed to slow down the plane. This was used pretty much by LW/other 109 users to decelerate. Also flaps were used during combat to enhance the turn, but according to an excellent book Pilot's view, the 109 was a good turner even without use of flaps. As a sidenote..at 350km/h U could pull the 109 as much as U liked and it didn't stall, because of the stiffer controls. And when stall buffeting occured, just ease on stick a bit but can still pull. When slats pop open, then U need to be more careful, since the edge of envelope is near. But we don't have them in AH,if I recall right, neither the radiator flaps(manual/auto).Still..109 is NOT the best turning plane, but can hold it's own.

DB i just got a book (Greenhearts - 1st in combat with the Dora), and i read about the radiator flaps use as airbreak.

Pilots stated the put them out to force an overshoot, and most often this worked.

Also it seems that the p51 had a higher minimum flying speed than the D9, which is in AH inverted, where the D9 cant fly slower than the P51.

Naudet,

Is it your first boob, or are you just referring to another aquisition of such?

These kind of things are what we need, allies have there dive flaps, now give us LW:ers our special flaps etc!  :)

If they get the 109f to turn any better, they'll have to take away the perk points  :)
