I would like to remind Vermillion of something he said about the Typhoon in an earlier post:
Here's the friendly bet.
I bet that within the first two weeks of its introduction, the Tiffy will be within the top 3 in rankings in Kills/Death of all fighters in the game.
If I'm wrong, I will fly nothing but the Tiffy for two straight weeks in the arena. Which should be a horrible sentence if your right.
I've just checked the scores, and the Tiffie has a negative K/D ratio against all but 1 of the other fighters in the game. Care to accept your penance Vermillion?
Now that the Typhoon has proved to be the failure that history and RAF dweebs said it would be, are there plans to introduce a competitive late war Britsh plane? Because at the moment the only RAF plane with a positive K/D ratio is the Spit IX, and that just barely.
-
PLEASE you saying the spit9 isnt competitive? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)If we had the spit XIV it would dominate, completely. Its a wonderful plane, but do we really want it?
-
But the problem was Nashwan is that you guys didn't take me up on the bet. It was an all or nothing deal, which you failed to quote as part of my post.
And later in the same thread, I pointed out that you guys didn't take me up on it.
See... you guys would have won.
But you gotta bet to win (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

How did you get scoring info on the Tiffie? When I look in those drop-down lists I don't see Typhoon listed.
Also keep in mind that Typhoons are used largely for air-ground sorties so there are many "kills" of Typhoons by other "planes" that are actually kills by the AAA. But for some unfathomable reason the kills are assigned to the nearest ack-hugger...
-
The Spit 14 wouldn't "dominate completely" any more than the 109G10 "dominates completely".
It's the fast plane that turns well. Turning well doesn't count for much if you fly smart.
And it would still have short legs and poor roll rate.
-
If anyone were to actualy read the title of my post, they would see I am not calling for the Spit14....
-
Tempest Mk V.
20mph faster than Spitfire Mk XIV below 10k.
Zooms higher.
Dives faster.
Rolls faster over 300mph.
Has four Mk V Hispano 20mm cannon.
It's basically a Typhoon on steroids. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

It's basically a Typhoon on steroids.
So? How many Typhoons you have seen in arena lately?
My point is that plane can be very fast and roll nicely but it still won't be popular if it handles viciously like Typhoon. The few extra MPH's won't help you if you get to turnfight and you stall almost without any warning. Tempest was not as bad as the Typhoon in handling department but it is still large and heavy fighter which will not win turnfights against dedicated turnfighters.
Also I think it won't climb too good either and even early/mid war (certainly late war atleast!) 109 can climb above it and then attack Tempest from above.
Every plane has a weak spot(s), so does Tempest. Remember when folks praised Typhoon to heavens saying it will the uberplane? Why don't we see them on arena then?
Finally, it's the pilot, not the plane.

So how is the Tempest Mk V any worse than say, the Fw 190D-9 Jochen? Both can't turn worth a damn and have bad stall characteristics. Both are fast and have good guns. Both would be easily outclimbed by the Bf 109G-10.
I was only pointing out that the Tempest Mk V was superior in some areas of performance than the Spitfire Mk XIV, and basically a more powerful version of the Typhoon.
What makes a plane popular? Reputation, good guns for HO and a blue paintjob! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hey guys,
Not meaning to seem rude but you guys have got your wires crossed somewhere along the line here. The typhoon or the Tempest was not more of a fighter than a B17 was a knife fighter! Yeah ok so it was not a big heavy bomber that sat quite happily at 30k and bombed from the heavens but still. The Typhoon and Tempest where BOTH ground attack aircraft, there roll was to attack ground targets not to kill aircraft. Dogfighting was the spit's job, killing bombers was the Hurricanes job and blowing the hell outa things was the Lancaster's, Wellingtons and so ones job. Before you start slaging of the typhoon for being such a bad fighter remember all the people that flew it during WW2 over France and achieved an amazing amount of victories, also remember all those that died. The typhoon memorial in Normandy is very moving.
If you guys want a great late war fighter? Choose the Spitfire mark 22. It had a 5 bladed transrotating prop that was a BEAST. The tork on this thing half compressed the tires on takeoff! But once it got into the air you could pull back on the stick and it would out climb anything as well as turning fairly well too. This aircraft rocked.
Ok, I have said me piece (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Tempest is quite uber but no dogfighter.
Quickest WW2 plane below 10K (?)
Stable gun platform
4 x Hispano Mk5
Initial climb rate 4700 ft/min---(from a website)
20,000 feet in 6.1 mins
good zoom
good dive
reasonable roll

cc that jazz. When I read Jochen's post and then seen his signature, I laughed. Why to ask for FW190s when they can't dogfight either...

I don't think we will get our chance to fly Spit 22 in AH. Spit XIV was the last production series Spitfire to see action in WW2.

No, the 21 was the last mark to see action in WW2. It entered production in Sept 44 and entered squadron service in Jan 45.

Hmm then why am I asking for Spit XIV... I want Spit XXI now!!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

MX22, there is a rule that the RAF planeset must be 2 years behind the Axis planeset. E.G. Fw 190A-8 and Me 109G-10 (1944) vs. Spit. Mk. IX (1942).
So if we get Spit. XIV (early 1944) the bad guys would get an early 1946 plane like the Ta-183 (MiG-15 Prototype).
And if we had the Spit. XXI, we'd have to give the Luftwaffles an F-104 or something.
Now I think we could deal with the MiG-15, but that F-104 would be a pain in the ass!

True,
It will be a major pain to deal with a Mach2+ capable fighter. But looking at all these LW whiners, I think that maybe if I will whine a bit too, I'll get my Spit XXI (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Have nothing against Me262 in the game, it had it's glory days in WW2 and thus belongs to AH. But hey, from your other thread about Yak9, it's about the time for you to scream that 262 will be an uber ride (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Seems like you'd like to get your hands on hot LW plane, but prefer when others fly less capable planes...

Don't take it so personal,
I may not be right, but your posts on Yak9U say that you against this plane entering AH arena. Now you demanded Me262 which in many people's eyes will be more of an uber plane, then Yak. Things come around I guess (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
In any case, my point of view on all this late war planes is, yes we should have them. If it took part in WW2, it belongs here. Did Yak9U fought against Germans on Eastern front? Yes it did, so it belongs in AH. Did Me262 killed Allied planes? Yes it did and thus too belongs in AH. Did Spit XXI killed German planes? If it did it, then I have my right to demand for this plane to be modeled in AH.
peace,

hehe Funked,
Especially when you'd have to roll inverted to eject!
-
mx22, I don't take it personal at all.
I am not sure, however, how I can show that I am making a facetious comment meant to be a joke by any other means than using a smiley.
Well,, I could amend "this is a joke. A JOKE. I am not serious here. I don't take it personally. It's a joke, you know, a thing said to be amusing. It might not be amusing, but hey, that's how my jokes usually come off."
Check the yak thread again. You'll find that I've apologized for my part.
This time my friend you were a little quick on the trigger.
For the rest, I sort of agree and not agree with you. While the 262 would be nice, it would be too much of an Über plane in my opinion. Maybe we're better off keeping jets out of Ah. Still, I'll cry out for one any day ;D.
The rest of the planes - if they saw actual air to air combat vs other enemy planes, and where produced in a reasonable number (say more than 250 or so, Ii really don't know what a reasonable number is), include them.

Jets would be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1944 Me 262 vs. Prop. Allied
or
1945 Me 262 and He 162 vs. Meteor
Meteor pilots would be using the eject handle a lot. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Typhoon not competitive? Whaaaat? Failure? You're kidding me?! Not a fighter? NOT A FIGHTER? (Yeah, I know you mean historically, BeTown (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
'duma has 38 kills and has been killed 12 times in the Typhoon IB.' (3.16 k/d)
'funkedup has 23 kills and has been killed 6 times in the Typhoon IB.' (3.83 k/d)
Take the time to learn the Tiffie and you'll love the blasted thing to death. A Tempest? Sheesh, you guys are too kind to us running dweebs (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Duma, I'm a little embarrased by that score. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Most of those deaths are from ground vehicles and ack. I could tell you the air-to-air score, but I'd have to kill you. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
