You going to name the game Scorpion?

I am open to suggestions.  Working title possibilities are as follows:

"Tumors High"
"Air Scorpion"
"Scambirds"

Here is a screenshot of cockpit development.  Notice the lifelike detail and adjustable views.  You will also have a character creation section where you can design your own pilot.  I gave this one a mullet.

Will the "fuel burning" characteristics be modeled in this game?   After all, I just want to sight see at 40k and get the optimum range on a tank of fuel.

Well of course.  Getting to that altitude is the best way to conserve fuel.

Hello,

This is Mazz's Ack.

While coding (why do you all misspell it?) he was bitten by something we have yet to identify while putting his left shoe on.  His big toe is rather swollen and he is clutching his throat as if he cant breathe.

After much deliberation, I have decided that his cash flow contribution to the household is important enough to take him to the hospital.

He will be unable to post but I will keep you updated of his condition through his account.

Thanks.

He can't breath because his toe is swollen.... sure sign of hoof IN mouth disease. Probably the only thing that saved him from a severe case of HUAS.

Hello again, this is the Ack.

Mike is doing well.  His toe is still swollen but the doctors were able to give him an antidote.

I went back home after dropping him off and was able to capture the creature that bit him.  It looks a LOT like that picture, but its not red.  The doctors used it to create the antidote.

Updates as they come.  They want to do a brain scan next, for some reason.  We'll see what comes up.

Yep, taking a P-82 near a CV and all that AA would be a real challenge, a test of pilot skills.
Heck, what do I know....just keeping up with this thread is challenge enough.
Mazz, any chance of getting an F-16 in your new sim, like a perk plane?  If ya do, skin it with scorpions on the vertical stabilizer......inspirational for the pilot, and a true challenge for any opponents to try and shoot one of those bad boys down.

I think it is roughly $4.85. A sure sign this is going to be an awesome game for flight types.

I personally am planning on skipping buying a coke for lunch all this week to make a substantial donation.

Who's pitching in for a new top notch coading machine. I think he needs at least a 40" monitor too with quad vid cards for the graphics work.

I'm glad to see him able to put his 12 PHDs (Post HUAS Degrees) to work finally. He'll also be able to draw on the footage he shot from his F-16. This will be amazing.

His work as a Priest when he was 10 will come in handy now to... He can bless the game prior to release.

A26 would be da chit!!! RR Tho? Boooooooooo!

As for my donation, I want to make sure he's ok from the bug bite before I hand my money over. That wife of his seems like she's just out to take our money, and I don't think he would do that to us. Do you guys?

It's going to have two, that's how awesome this game is going to be.  I hope Mazz won't get upset with me, but here is a screenshot from the recent open beta.

the above screenshot isn't rendered either, notice the great detail.  Though this isn't the clipped wing version, Mazz says it will be in the next update.

Here is a small video I made last night using Fraps.  The video is not a rendered cutscene, it's actual game footage of the in-game engine showing all of its power.

Here is another picture of the Mk IX in game.  Look how realistic the water and terrain looks in the screenshot.

It's going to support DX11, along with backwards compatibility for DX10 and DX9 but as you can see, the game is best played in DX11.

To appeal to the console crowd, Mazz has been adding achievements that you can unlock that opens up new plane variants and skins.  For example, you get 50 achievement points if you can save 50 gallons of fuel by flying at 35k.

I already donated $50, but feel the current selection of screenshots are a bit slim. I understand that anything you post are still a WIP, but isn't there anyway to let donators get acces to a special area for exclusive screenshots and more importantly films of ingame action.
Another option might be to give a in depth interview with for instance Combatsim. This will shut up all the critical minds I'm sure.

I have been told by Mike's ack that he will unfortunately be in the hospital for quite some time.  The scorpion bite was a blessing in disguise because they found he had a tumor in the brain scan.  I can't really say how the doctor's think he got it but it involved exposure to some gamma rays in Asia a few years ago.  I can't say more than that. (classified).  Mike wanted you guys to remain enthusiastic about the flight sim though and he said he plans to coad it from the hospital still!  He's such a trooper.  He's working on the ground vehicle aspect of the game currently and his ack gave me a pic of what he has so far.  He's probably not going to add any other tanks besides the Tiger, afterall it is the most uber.

He needs to upgrade equipment to accommodate him in the hospital so keep those donations coming!

Friends, Investors, Countrymen...

My sincerest apologies... my delay in responding to you all was completely out of my hands... the last few days have been quite a Challenge.  A Challenge, indeed.

A tear was brought to my eye when I read this thread just now.

It turns out, in God's strange way, that the scorpion bite was the best thing that ever happened to me (and this sim).  While I was in the hospital, the doctors noticed a strange lump on my skull.  At first, it appeared to be the result of prolonged exposure to high-altitude atmospheric pressure (of lack thereof) from some of my U-2 flights but, upon further examination, with the good, comes the bad... and with the bad, comes the good.

I have a brain tumor.

While this means I only have 2 weeks to live, that should be enough time to finish the sim.  Additionally, since I am a positive guy and like to find the silver lining in everything, it turns out that the tumor makes me unable to participate in Operation (CLASSIFIED) against the (CLASSIFIED).  I was really hoping to reach 'Ace' with a couple more kills over (CLASSIFIED) but, despite my disappointment, I will have that much time available for coading.

I have, thus far, transferred about 50% of my coading gear to the hospital (which is where I am writing you from, now), but have run out of money and the movers wont offer credit to someone with a scorpion bite and a brain tumor.  They think that repayment risk is high for some reason.  I will show them this thread as evidence of my (and my next of kin) future cash flows.

I will need about $5,000 to move this equipment.  Doing it myself is too much a Challenge.  I am weak, frail and will likely need a nap after typing this.  Anyhoo... I have set up an account on Grand Cayman for this purpose.

Additionally, please allow me to clarify a few things about this new, cutting edge sim, which will revolutionize the way we all play (or the way you all play... after my departure from this Earth in 2 weeks):

Firstly, this is a WWII based sim.  There will be no modern day fighters included with the sole exception of the F-16C, which will be available at the annual con.  There is some talk about including the Superhornet as a special use aircraft, as well... I understand that a forum member is a Superhornet driver but I have yet to get in touch with him.  We may have served previously (although unknown to me due to circumstances of the "industry") in the (CLASSIFIED) and the (CLASSIFIED)... and I believe that his absence may be due to deployment with the (CLASSIFIED) in (CLASSIFIED).  If true, he is a prodigy of air combat, especially above 40,000 feet, and his input will be invaluable.  I first met him at Red Flag a few years back and he was a Challenge to "kill."

Secondly, yes, nukes will be available.  However, in the interests of fair gameplay, they will be limited to historically appropriate levels; I have identified 15 kilotons as the appropriate yield.  Rest assured, this will be more than enough to inflict considerable damage on all cities; including those build in accordance with there-local hurricane zoning requirements (Yes, Puerto Rico has already been mapped and the long-range "America Bomber" has been modeled).  Damage to GV's will also be catastrophic, but there is an issue I cant quite conquer... if behind a tree, relative to ground zero, the GV takes no damage from the nuke.  Strange.

This bring us to the third point; cities.  Rest assured that they will be sprawling, VERY realistic (almost photo-like) and will require complete destruction for the capture of the near-by airfield.

This brings us to number four.  In addition to cities, airfield captures and GVs, we will have infantry.  The working arena cap (Alpha testing is underway) is 100,000.  This should provide ample numbers to ensure a proper WWII experience.  Just imagine the possibilities!

Fifth, I will be reintroducing factories.  While I will be modeling airplanes such as the Spitfire XVI, the La-7 and the N1k-2J, the destruction of each country's factory producing each of those aircraft will result in the target country's inability to fly that aircraft for a period of six months.  This should improve strat play, though destruction of the factories will be a Challenge.

Sixth, I will be throwing away the requirement for "true" WWII service.  While, as previously stated, the F16C will be the only special aircraft to be coaded, to this point, (and, in fact already has since I know all about it; its not even a Challenge) aircraft like the F8F, 109K-14, 190D-11 and P-47X15 (you might now know about that one... could still be classified... will check) will be useable, although heavily perked.

$eventh, $ubmarine$.  I have decided not to include the$e as the money required to modify the game engine i$ not available.  $hould this change, de$pite the Challenge, I would love to have them, as Im $ure would many of you.

Eighth, formation flying.  This will no longer be available.  Drones are a thing of the past.  With 100,000 players online at once, each position in each bomber will be manned.  The Deathstar hath returned.  Taking them down will be a Challenge, I assure you.

Updates as they come... I am playing around with the idea of a Relaxed Realism arena where we might include, not only the inability to stall aircraft, but "auto-aim" gunnery. That is, for newer player, the tracers will follow (within a reasonable distance) a path directly to the target aircraft.  This should make the learning curve less of a Challenge.

I am also considering the use of a revolutionary new piece of equipment, not unlike Track IR, which should make previous attempts at "virtual reality" a thing of the past.  When I was based in Japan for Operation (CLASSIFIED) I came across some new technology that, not only mimics head movement, but adds olfactory and other physical sensations to the experience.  What this means is that, when you get an oil hit, you will SMELL OIL!

I am not yet sure how much that technology will cost but Im sure it will be expensive... but it WILL be worth it.

Finally... I am truly blown away by the outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time and appreciate your thoughts, your prayers, and your investment in my... no... not my... OUR project.

Mazz, you think about asking Chalenge for some help?  I heard at one time he was developing his own flight sim, called something like TAS.  Sadly, due to some personal issues like the nasty ones you're facing stopped development of his game.  I am sure though that he would be gracious enough to lend a hand in helping you complete your flight sim.  It would give him something to do while he grabs to 35k.

Can you also add in the smell of urine whenever someone runs from a 1v1? Maybe throw in the smell of feces when they also are in the top 5 of the scoring ladder for the month (and fly little else but Tempests and P51s)?

Thanks! We, the gaming community, appreciate everything you do.

Wow.

I have just started reading this topic and will likely re-read it 157 more times to make sure every bit of its rich information sinks in.

You can certainly count me in for at least 17,000 dong, but I am also willing to contribute programming, math, and modelling skills to the project gratis because of the project's enormous potential not only for us, but for all of mankind.

I've found Object COBOL++ combined with Lisp subroutines to be the most effecient for heavy-duty math modelling (although a new derivative of ALGOL called "ALGORE" looks quite promising).  I should be able to work in the necessary singularity theory using renormalization and contour integration.  This might result in imaginary components to some of the less-important aerodynamic forces such as "lift" and "drag", but even gross approximations to these will be more than sufficient.

Independent of this project, I, too, have been working on kinesthetic analogues to various sensory inputs experienced during flight.  The most promising is a pneumatic collar used to simulate the effect of g's and especially black outs.  Currently, the prototype utilizes a 155 HP diesel-powered pneumatic pump, as the desired upper limit of effect and fidelity of square-wave response time seems to work best at upwards of 6000 psi in the collar, although there are some dangers to vasculature and vertebral integrity (and in fact partial or full decapitation of all test subjects to date) that still remain to be worked out.  I am willing to contribute this technology to the project.

This all sounds good and promising and all, but.. What about wind? Have you found a realistic-like solution on how to make real wind if you fly with an open canopy? I sure miss the wind in all the other sims..

Nothing like the smell of sea as you are lifting off the carrier deck for another cruise over the Pacific..  :airplane:

I just saw the video you made of your first live subject testing of your pneumatic collar.  While it does look very promising, especially for the flight sim market it does have a long way to go.

Thanks in advance.

:airplane:
Feed me some Taco Bell and I'll provide the wind tunnel for testing :D

I am open to suggestions.  Working title possibilities are as follows:

"Tumors High"
"Air Scorpion"
"Scambirds"

Here is a screenshot of cockpit development.  Notice the lifelike detail and adjustable views.  You will also have a character creation section where you can design your own pilot.  I gave this one a mullet.

Wow!! That looks like 3.5 to 5 times better than my xbox 360 games. What kinda features will there be besides the character creation?
I'd love it if there were like RPG aspects.. where you can level up and add spells like holy damage bullets which would do extra damage versus orc horde planes.
There needs to be different races you can choose because that's what sucks with aces high.. everyone is just "some dude" in a plane. I don't even think "dude" is a race? maybe its like a gender or something?

I don't like to donate without any rewards (I mean who does that!!).. I'd donate though if you donated a tshirt with the game on it to me.  but it also has to say RumbleB #1 player of game
it could just say #1 and nothing else also

It's got that in.  In the beta, my P-38J has +4 w/elemental fire damage .50 caliber machine guns and a +12 with 15% critical chance 20mm cannon.  I also have a +25 armor bonus that also gives me +15 agility and +15 strength.

That can be done too.  We in S.A.P.P pooled some money together and donated it just so the title splash screen will display our group's name with a margarita blender in the backround.  Sure, it costs us quite a bit of cash but the 4th mortage that Shuff took out together with the very large loan I took out and selling my Jeep and pimping out Mensa to old men, we were able to get the money together.

I just sent several arrows through mensa's canopy as his 38k passed. He could not turn his head with the arrows through it so I gained his six quickly then obliterated him with the 6 gigawatt laser.

As a newly minted cartoon General, I must say that the Ultra-NOE-Tunneler (pictured below) is my favorite feature.  Yes, it does cost a few GV perks but you strap it on your favorite tank and burrow UNDER the ground to the enemy base and pop up right next to the town.  Me and Grizz ran a mission the other day in the beta where we had one uber-brave player strap this onto the front of his Tiger and burrow to the base.  The rest of us flew our 110’s and Niki’s through the tunnel, came out and pwned the town (including those pesky churches and that tricky, tricky, tricky radio tower).  It was so awesome because they had NO idea we were coming and we didn’t have to be concerned with the one major thing that is terribly worrisome to cartoon Generals like me on the way to conquer a base – someone popping above radar and presenting the possibility of resistance or even worse a FIGHT.

Thanks Mazz.  Dude, you are awesome. I can't wait to capture map after map in your game.

Here is a sneak peek at the Ultra-NOE-Tunneler.  I’m sorry for letting the cat out of the bag, Mazz, but I’m just so excited I could wee on my authentic George Patton cartoon General uniform.

Ok, first off, development is back on.  The leak was identified... though I am sworn to secrecy; it was part of our financial arrangement.

Alpha testing continues...

I don't like to donate without any rewards (I mean who does that!!).. I'd donate though if...

You are on the right track.  No one gets anything for free.  For example, without the proper donations, this sim will not come to fruition.

That said, as Ack implied, there is a cross section where the level of "rewards" is measured against the level of financial contribution.

For example, since Karaya has, thus far, been the largest investor, his Spitfire MkI will be equipped not with the eight 0.30 Browning's but, rather, twelve 20mm Hispano's with 650 rounds per gun.

Of course, to be fair, I did need to model the weight penalty.

For my own part, I have created two personal aircraft; the Bf-109R-1 and the FW-190A-27.

The 109R employs the DB60X series engine with a significant MW50 boost (60 minutes WEP) which increases horsepower to 7,500 at all altitudes above 500ft.  It also replaces the anemic K4's single 30mm cannon with a combination of five MG151/20's; two in the cowling, one through the hub and one in each wing root (synchronized, of course).

The 190A-27 employs an experimental version of the BMW 801 power plant which will be unknown to those of you without clearance to view the 1946 files on (CLASSIFIED).  Essentially, the engine is bored, stroked and boosted to its limits, developing 5,000HP at sea-level; dropping only to 4,500HP at 40,000ft (for fuel efficiency).  It also removes the worthless 7.9mm MG's and, of course, the MG/FF's and, in their place, are four MG151/20 mounted in the same fashion as the 109R, save for the hub gun (because, come on, lets be realistic).

As for me; my toe is still swollen and the doctors have removed the top half of my skull.  I feel like Ray Liotta having dinner with Hannibal but things seem to be progressing nicely.  I appreciate the "get well soon" cards... although... Grizz... please stop sending me naked photos...).

Remember - as any good waiter will tell you - the measure of the person you are is directly correlated with your financial contribution.
