Title: Wind sock
Post by: Mister Fork on January 11, 2010, 10:58:28 AM
Can we please have a wind socks outside hangars and at the end of every runway?  The AvA often has cross-winds and it would be nice to know which way the wind is blowing when we land.

Could we know A little more history on this subject, please..

How many were made? How many squadrons used them? How successful was it to the war cause? How many kills did it get credited for?

Come on man think! :furious

Doesn't the clip board map show wind direction?

It does, but the Forker is asking for a visual on the field.  It does make sense as I rarely have the e6B open for landing.

don't need the E6B open for landing, on the map itself the wind direction is shown by an arrow.  At least there used to be an arrow on the top right hand corner that showed wind direction.

Yep and it gets kinda cluttered when you have a few wind layers.

Would be cool just for a visual aspect and historical accuracy...

I agree.  Partly, the wind display on the CBM is difficult to use as each layer is stacked on top of the other, and it gets somewhat confusing to discern which arrow is for what.  Second, it would add a little eye candy.  Obviously not something that will get used in the MA, but the AvA and SEA would be able to take advantage of it regularly.

Not the wind sock thing again.  Are you a spy from the RoF forums?

Doubt you'd be able to see it unless max zoomed in on a very tiny object in a very specific part of the field. By the time you saw it you'd already be landing (and it would be too late to help).

Remember, in real life you can see a lot of things that a mere game cannot hope to replicate. Real life you can see the swirls and sways of the grass itself as a cue, dust blowing, can "feel" the plane drift under you, etc...

People have been crying over windsocks at the RoF forum since the game was released.  The developers add new aircraft, new functionality, and everyone says, "what?! No windsocks??"
