Title: Decorated Veteran: FAIL!!!!
Post by: DREDger on January 12, 2010, 12:50:42 PM
Check out this article.

This guy in England claimed to have been awarded all these medals for his military service.   He even had some medals from WW2....even though he was born after it ended.

He got caught wearing all these medals in some parade.  Apparantly in England it is actually a criminal offense to wear fake medals.

That 'Stolen Valor Act' was interesting.

As I recall, one could buy war medals through magazines if you were interested.  Replicas I think.

Does that mean collectors can't obtain war medals anymore?  Or does it just mean you can't claim to have been awarded a medal.

You can own any medal save for the Congressional Medal of Honor.  My father, for display purposes has just about every medal for valor the military awards and quite a few campaign medals from WWII that are reproductions.  Since my brother in law is in the military, he was able to purchase them at the PX on base.  IIRC it is a crime unless you are the recipitent of the CMOH to own or manufacture replicas.  Not sure how that works though for families of the recipients.

In the UK it is permitted to wear a late relatives medals on the right breast on remembrance day.

He deserves his 60 hours.  By the way the three towns mentioned in the article are very close to Coventry.  They are all know for being populated by stupid people.

Bedworth pronounced Bed`uth.  Nuneaton pronounced Treacle town (thick)  :rofl and Hinckley backs onto Nuneaton.  They are former colliery towns.

Isn't Coventry loaded with long haired biker guys, Naval Admirals, Ex-Pilits, and writers?
