I guess you could say I'm asking for trouble (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
P-38H
however p-38H was lighter than the L all be it 12 mph slower at 5k and 15 mph slower at 25k due to inferior turbocharging although it had the same engines as the J/L.
I'm also interested in experiencing the horid roll rate (already present in p38L at low speed (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ) and deadly mach tuck dive performance that exists past 420 mph.
It would be a good variant though the way the 109 series was.
would need new canopy and many new engine boom changes along with a nice faded weathered olive drab paint job (Aeromaster 9040 U.S. Olive drab 41) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
pics of p38E (Hasegawa makes a 1/48 scale kit of P-38H though (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) )

Yes!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
The 'F, G or H' model would be a necessity in any early war re enactments. A 'J' or 'L' is just too advanced for a Bougainville/New Guinea or an Afrika 42-43 scenario.

p-38H would be most useful. p-38J and L almost same plane so I figure skip it and work backwards down to the p-38F (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
I was gonna suggest the F or G, for the exact same reasons that Westy did (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but he beat me too it.

You forgot about the wing deforming backfires from the turbocharger pipes in the leading edge! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I suggest the G since it was produced in the biggest numbers of all the early P-38's.

What an american plane with quirks...cant be. They would probably be imposible to model in the game like the float carb in the spit Vb.. or the mw50 on a Fw190 a8..
I am triming and cleaning a Has. P38L right now...course I can do that for years, might not be finsished for a decade...I am going to get a friend of mine to make some little AH kill markings...Bish and Rook and Knight symbols in red or black..... And maybe a Knights cross laural that has a horses head...
