Is there a way that i can clean out old files on my computer besides doing a disk clean up?
-
remove old flies?
Try a fly swatter :bolt:
I tend to do the clean-up of old files manually. Clean-up will remove some, but probably not as in depth as you want.

Thx for the correction.
would you know any online service that can do it?

I don't use any since I don't trust any of them to be safe. Someone else may be able to recommend something though.
Are you trying to clean up windows or personal files?
If you want real clean, there is always the format option.

Backup everything, make sure you have all the drivers for your system. Export and save your email address, bookmarks, etc. Stick it all in a folder, burn it to a dvd (or 2)
Boot with your OS Cd in the tray, repartition, reformat, reinstall. Once windows is done loading don't forget the motherboard drivers first, then video, etc.
Then reload software.
If your any good, 4 - 6 hours later you'll have a spotlessly clean, lean AH flying machine.
Just take a day and do it once a year.

It really depends on what your trying to do. I hate doing a fresh install, I'd rather fly for those 4-6 hours :x
To avoid it I try keeping my system clean. I have a folder on my desktop that all my downloads go to ALWAYS. Every couple of months I'll go through that folder and delete anything I'm not using or don't want to save. Next I go through the add/remove programs program and remove any programs I havn't been using. Then I'll empty my recycle bin and then use my "Glary Utilities" program to clean the disk, and registry. Then a defrag.
Takes about a half hour and keeps my machine running clean and mean.

Yea, i do that but sometime it is better to wipe out you HD and reinstall all of it.

And only you can decide when that point is.
Also for general cleanup, tune up try Glary Utilities. They do help keep things trim.

CCleaner has always been good to me, so far. It gets rid of a lot of junk. Glary Utilities can find a few extras also.
-
CCleaner is only good if you want to waste processor cycles on what they call, "shredding."

You might want to be careful there Oakranger...getting rid of "old files" can cause you some headaches that you don't want to deal with. You could end up deleting system files that are needed but not registered as being used recently...which happens when you use the disk cleanup wizard in Windows XP...if you're trying to clean up your registry from stale/orphaned entries...Glary utilities did a pretty good job...I also use Wise Registry Cleaner which if you just follow the safest route it does a great job...killing old program directories should be done manually once you ensure the program has been properly uninstalled...
You're also going to want to get auslogistics disk defragmenter and run it, with the optimize option turned on.
