Title: Manned Gun at Town

  I'd like to see a few Manned guns at the towns. Just to confound the base capture boys when they shut down a field.  :furious How long they stay down when  knocked out I don't know.

I too think that having a couple, maybe three manned guns (soft guns) in the town would be a good thing.  It would cut down on the cheap "sneak" captures, and it would give the attackers that much more to be concerned with.

I's like to see HTC at least try it.  Like many of the suggestions here in the wishlist forums the changes could be easily and if it didnt work or proved to sway things too far either way from the perfect balance in HTC's sim-world, it could be changed back.  It would require minimal coding (one would think anyways) to swap out one of the hard guns to a soft gun (or 2 or 3).  Heck, the square bunkers are already in place.   ;)

although I like the idea...... I have to say

as with 99.9% of the people in AH Ive never made a map so I couldnt say with certainty....... but I would think its not that simple of a change as you might think

it would be my guess that in order to put a man gun in a town it would require changing the configuration of a town which is a hard coded object (the town is a complete unit for mapmakers, it just gets plugged in) .......... then add that town to the map making tool...... then replace every town on every map in existence

like I said I could be wrong about how its done....... but just a guess on my part

and if Im correct it would require ALOT of work for such small return

another thing I thought of while playing a bit ago..........

right now we have 8 auto acks in the town......

if you replace say 2 of them......... now you have 6 auto and 2 mannable

this assumes 2 things........ that youre going to be a better gunner than the auto.......... and that youre actually going to man the gun at every base thats under attack

so when someone does their NOE sneaks now they only have to worry about 6 ack firing at them instead of 8....... that much easier to get those acks down including the 2 that are unmanned because its a sneak

Move the 2 auto acks in the center of town to the two corners that don't have acks.  Place the 2 manned acks there...

Not that those 37mm rds really do much in the towns...maybe have them auto unless someone can jump in?  If they hop back out, the 37mm goes back to auto.

No, that would really cut down on the field of fire for the ack guns. Idealy, you want the man guns in the corners, so you have the town completely (or almost anyway) covered with man gun fire. You want to be able to knock out the attacking planes, so that the attack never gets far enough along to use troops.

I'd even say add a single puffy ack, 90mm M2 preferably to keep people from rolling onto the field, camping the VH for the kills, and killing the rest of the hangers unopposed, and to give vulchers something to worry about. At least do this for the V bases, and ports as the ONE man gun, and wirb uppers aren't enough usually to keep a base.

Really, it seems field captures are a bit too easy. Attackers come in at 20k, kill hangers, and take the base without a single loss every time I even bother trying to defend.

They should make any gun able to be manned just like they do on CVs, unless it would impact the game negatively perfomance/server wise.

They are not all mannable on CV's. Theres a distinct difference between auto & manned guns. You can't jump into an auto gun and manned "soft" guns do not fire on their own. Just like on any other base.

exactly lusche........ they are 2 completely different types of objects............this isnt the Matrix......... you cant just replace AI whenever you wish Mr Smith

The terrain editor already has the ability to add individual AA guns into a terrain in the same way you can add shore batteries. However the last time I looked there was a bug with doing this that prevented their use on MA terrains. The bug was that although you could destroy the gun it did not look destroyed to players. So in theory you could have a player firing lots of ammo into an already knocked out gun. I haven't looked recently to see if this bug has been fixed though. The other issue is whether HTC want manned guns at the town, although I can't see why they wouldn't.

yes but correct me if Im wrong here..............as admittedly I dont do maps and know nothing of the terrain editor

isnt the town a single object? just like the fields and other objects?

does the terrain editor allow you to stack objects....... in other words you couldnt put a shore battery in the center of a field........

if my understanding is correct then youd either have to recreate the town object....... or place the manned guns outside of the town object in the terrain.......

also no matter if Im correct or not..... even if you can place a gun object on top of a town object.......

wouldnt you then have to do this individually at every town on every map? or is there a blanket macro that will automatically fill them all in?

doing them individually would mean a lot of time to make such a minor possibly inconsequential change........ which then still wouldnt address the other possible concerns....... do you replace autos or just add more guns....... if you lower the number of autos what happens when nobody bothers to fill the guns? now you have even less town defense which kind of negates the intended purpose

as I mentioned earlier I think its a great idea..... Ive often thought it would be nice myself....... I just believe the side effects may outweigh the benefits
