Hey, I was just reading the want-ads in this section of the BB and it hit me? Why not equip the the TA with Trainers! Think about a flock of T6-Texans doing flight training like they did in real life. The gunnery aspects could be made to give feed back but not destory the plane (ala guncam with messages in the buffer about virtual kills/damage)
And think about this: You could set up time for the TA to be a no-charge arena sometimes to give the public a little taste and set the hook. (err, I mean alow them to sample the service (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) )
There, I've come up with my inovation of the week. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I think the only reason trainers are used in real life is because the pilot might get killed trying to learn in a combat aircraft, and the trainer is cheaper to maintain and operate.
In here we don't have to deal with any of those issues. Planes are free. Gas is free. No maintenance costs. And human life means nothing.
IMHO pilots should practice on the type they intend to fly in combat.
<S> for the idea though.

I think it's a really good idea buddy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I do think it would bring a real injection of realism into the gameing arenas

Trainers are also simpler/easier to fly than combat aircraft, as well as cheaper and easier to maintain.
For example, in early WW2 training, US pilots intially flew a fixed gear/fixed pitch airplanes with low horsepower (~200) and usually docile handling characteristics. (PT17/PT19/PT22, Primary Trainers)
Then you moved on to Basic Trainers (BT-9, BT-13) that incorporated a variable pitch props and higher horsepower (~450) while retaining fixed gear. These aircraft could perform more complex maneuvers and were a bit tougher to fly.
Next came the Advanced Trainers, either AT-6 (Single Engine for the short guys headed for fighters) or maybe the AT-11 (Cessna "Bamboo Bomber") for the tall guys headed for multis. Now you got retractable gear, variable pitch and more horsepower.
From these it was on to your assignment.

i think the texan in mexican airforce colors would be great .
i know for a fact that they used um as interceptors in the ww2 period , and that they were armed. what a hoot it would be tryin to get a kill in a texan, anyone know what armement they used ?
and one more country would be represented . any mexican airforce planes in other sims ? hehe

It would be really cool if you could also switch who was controlling the aircraft! Of course the instructor would be able to regain control at his descretion (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).
Of course, when I bring members of my squad over from other sims to get a feel for it, I just have them `.join' me and ride with in a fighter. On the other hand, sometimes it can be like having a back seat driver, so you may want to disable any voice comms before you take them for that `indoctrination' ride (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).
