I was changing out the strings the other day and decided i wanted to try a new brand of strings on my Gibson Les Paul. Does anyone have any recommendations to a type of strings? Like a brand name or style?
Thanks :rock

I get my sons from here they seem to hold up real well. http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/ (http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/) :rock
over 130 different Guitar strings to choose from

Elixir
Best sounding, longest lasting strings I've found. They cost a bit more then Martin, D'addario etc. but I feel they are well worth it. I prefer medium, but it just depends on your style of play. I mostly play acoustic finger-picking, but once in a while I'll flat pick the electric too.

I,ve been supporting D'addario for 30 years

Ernie Ball Super Slinkies for my LP...

It really depends on how you play, my favorite has always been dean markly ultra lights, but mainly because they are they only readily available .008s around; I have a lighter playing style so any heavy strings drive me crazy.
They are easy to bend, so it means they are also easy to break.

I prefer .009 to .042 for electrics.

Ernie Ball worked for me. Perhaps because I got used to them so much that others felt a little strange. I go for the thicker strings: 0.11 or even 0.12, they seem to give a better Jazz feel.

Ernie Ball Super Slinkies. I've been using 'em for years. Haven't found any better yet, although I'm about to try some S.I.T. strings. Heard they don't stretch as fast as other strings because of the way they are wound or something. Not really sure, the guy at the music store said he uses them and made them sound good. :rock

GHS Boomers. I use .10s Get the heaviest gauge you can handle. Light gauge strings are for wimps.

Agreed on the GHS Boomers!
Probably the most durable strings I have ever used.
Didn't realize what a wimp I was using 9s though! :cry
I've found I can get a more effortless vibrato with 9s. :neener:

Yep, I have been using Earnie Ball SS for years in my electrics, and D'Addario in my acoustics.

.10s just seem to ring out better. .09s seem spongy and a bit too easy to bend... If I wasn't such a wimp I'd use .11s or .12s...

If you want to try something really different, try flat would strings. Even the light gauge flat wound strings will feel heavy compared to round wound. You'll have a completely different tone. You'll also have an ultra quiet fret hand. It's really a different feel. Caution, I wouldn't put these on any guitar, just the ones that have the neck to body integrity to handle it. My '76 LesPaul has held them well for several years with no problems.
You might love it, you might hate it, but it's definitely different.

I am on my 10th set of different strings on my Les Paul that I bought a year ago and I have decided there is not much of a difference... Honestly... So far though I think elixers are my fav, 2nd to be honest is ernie ball...
I have also came to the conclusion that the number 1 best thing to make my guitar sound better is practice... lol

Going on 28 years of using Dean Markley Lights (.009-.042) on over 20 guitars. Highly recommended. :aok I tried (and still try) others, but the D'addarios break too often for me and the Ernie Balls seem to go dead very quickly for me.
For acoustic, I use the Elixer Nanoweb lights (.012-.053) for the acoustics. They really cut down on the left hand string noise.

Thanks for the ideas guys :aok I went down to the music store and got me 2 sets of GHS Boomers (10s and 11s). Gonna try em out and see how i like em. I have the 11s on now and i may just keep em till one breaks. :rock :rock

Slinky's on the electrics and either Martin or Elixirs on the acoustics.
