Title: Rockets Added to B-25 (PBJs) Ordnance
Post by: 5PointOh on January 21, 2010, 02:13:27 AM
I wish for the the HVARs that were used in the PTO by the Marines and the Navy on PBJs. IMO this would allow the 25s to be a more capable attack in AH.  Plus I like the sounds of rockets :neener:

Note the rocket rails under the wings.

I agree.  Adding it to the B25 w the solid nose (no bomb sight) would be a good thing.  It would give that version a bit of fresh life no doubt.

IIRC, B-25 in the PTO were also capable of carrying additional bombs on external hardpoints.

If we had the J I'd ask for the "Tiny Tims", but I can't find any info to support they were used on the Hs or Cs.

Tiny Tims on the F4Us, as well (and yes, 1s and 1As were later given the capability to fire them from their centerline hardpoints).

How often did they used them?

Probably about as often as any other aircraft provisioned to launch them.

Looks like a early version of the tomahawk.  Yea, should be added.

Although the 5 inch rockets used by the Navy and Marines were effective, something was needed to destroy the heavily fortified Japanese positions and even warships in the Pacific. The "Tiny Tim" was basically an up-scaled HVAR rocket, designed at Cal-Tech, and ready for deployment in December 1944. The only record of the rockets being used in combat occur at the bloody Battle of Okinawa towards the end of the war. Getting hit by this rocket was the equivalent of a 12 Inch naval shell, and it's destructive power was impressive enough for the "Tiny "Tim" to serve long after the war was over.

+1 on all of the above that favours giving the B-25s more firepower.  -1 on anything to the contrary  :D
