I know this has come up a few times in the not to distant past but I thought I'd restate. I really miss 8 player... it was great for jumping online and immediatly finding a fun furball. I understand and agree with why HTC did away with it... I hope HTC decides to host 8 player on their servers for their subscribers in the near future.

:pray for subsribers.
(32 player rooms :pray :pray :pray)

They could even make it so a player could setup a multi player arena, the player setting it up could specify the number of players and keep the entry open or they could specify only people from certain squads. Could make for some intersting squad v squad grudge matches.
Hitech PLEASE!!!!

HTC has already posted that the only way H2H would come back is as a server side set-up so that they can maintain control. They will no longer allow other people to host the games. They have also said that it would only be for subscribed players again, so they can maintain control.

Did you even read my post?

You mean this part where you said "a player could set up a multi player arena". Like I said, HTC said it won't happen again. They are not going to release control to players any more.

This line is the one that always bothers me. I have no trouble jumping on line and finding a furball.... well in most cases it a horde :D Most of the time this is what those that loved the 8 player rooms used as an excuse. To me it just doesn't fly, there are plenty of fights in the MA's.
-
Yet that's basically all you can find... An MA full of hordes. In 8-player you either had a town-takeover, Free for All (unlike the DA, one team only with the ability to kick bad players), air-racing, jeep racing, PT-wars, CV wars, island hopping, mini-scenarios (co-op), airport, and much much more! Whatever a player could think up was a definite possibility. In the MA you're stuck with what you've got. You can't decide on anything but your plane, squadron, a mission, the occasional scenario (given they are quite fun), and a dueling arena where your duels are disrupted.
The point is 8-player gave players a chance to host terrains and game-play you normally didn't see in the MA. It allowed one to "get a breath of fresh air."

^ Denholm is spot-on. I miss the your winter map, Denholm! (Or was it USRanger? lol!) It's been quite a long time :)
-
It was USRanger's. I was more prominent in the airport area.
-
We really need the 8 player back........That thing was a blast!
Or we could do 16 player.......That would be cool
-
Gah, wtf is it with some people here. Fugitive, you said:
"They will no longer allow other people to host the games. They have also said that it would only be for subscribed players"
Read my original post carefully, I know it may be diffictult for you.

I never said anything about a player hosted game. I did suggest that a player could setup an arena... No reason that a player couldn't setup an 8 player game on a hitch server.
-
H2H was the bomb Smog-8 map rules. And for arena setup they do it in the SEA all the time...........A 16 person arena would be awesome.......
As a paying customer I think we should get it......If enough of us get togeather and press the issue im sure it can happen couse with out paying customers you will have no buisness.............
-
They already have plans to bring it back... We're wishing it come back sooner.

You also had idiots controlling the rooms. Can't recall his name, started with a B though and fancied himself as an 'experten' P-38 flyer and would tout he had one of the better behaved H2H rooms. So I went in there looking for a good fight, run into the guy and easily shoot him down each time he engaged me. After around the 5th time I waxed him, he boots me from the room and 'banned' me from ever entering. All because I repeatedly shot him down.
There were also the H2H rooms with those idiots that tried to force you to have them check you out before you were able to take off. Got booted from one of those rooms for taking off with a DT, because according to the host, DTs can be used as bombs. It was my experience while H2H was around that most of the rooms were hosted by complete and utter idiots.
ack-ack

Lots of times I'd get booted because I shot the host down, and like you said many I'd get plastered on the runway because I had DT's...Den's airport room was fun though. ;)
-
Imagine my distress controlling 31 players... :D
I said turn LEFT!

Yes, you are correct. You also have to remember most of these "idiots" were people who decided to get a feel for the game before transitioning to the MA. H2H was a "getaway" for regular MA players and somewhat of a training ground for new players who didn't want to spend $14 learning how to play online.
-
How about people that have been playing for at least 2 years , are the only ones to e able to start a game. Can this be possible?? ideas????
-
Can't do anything like that, because people create accounts, play for years, leave for a few months, then come back...yadda yadda...
I also remember the rooms with the 10x ammo...always made me laugh...those Hurri guys who start spraying at 1K out, all you do is pull up, let em stall, then kill em on your way down.
-
Ooh, what's the airport room? That sounds like fun!
*Imagines flying a B-17 full of people, and the frantic pace set by the tower*
Ah what fun that could have been.

It was supposed to simulate modern-day aviation procedures. Every airport was a Class B airport controlled by an Air Traffic Controller (usually one person.... me). Every aircraft would have to request permission to taxi and takeoff. ATC would generally file the flight plan and control the aircraft after departure.
Was a lot of fun for me, since I was constantly trying to rearrange traffic for "the perfect approach." What always amused me was my request that an aircraft descend and maintain an altitude. I would expect a gradual descent, but instead the aircraft would roll over and dive down to altitude! I can only imagine the thoughts of those passengers and the expression of the pilot when those passengers stormed the cockpit. :D
-
That sounds like fun! What if you vulched the guy taking off?
So what's "the perfect approach"
-Penguin
-
He had no ammo as an arena setting. :P
-
I removed all ammunition from planes and kicked unresponsive players (only took 4 seconds before their slot was replaced, airport was that popular).
The perfect approach was to guide aircraft to be lined up 4 miles from the runway, on glide-slope, without causing a traffic conflict. It was fairly rare as people didn't know how to remain at altitude or follow a heading.
