I don't remember ever seeing Rude get so close to the ground!
Last night was good fun (despite the many deaths) in the battle for A8 in the SFMA.
Rude, flying an F4U-4 (another surprise) was flying less than 5K!!!
He tried to attack me in my Hurri-C, but ended up flopping into the side of a hill like a broken fish. I was following him at about 100 yds for probably 10-15 seconds but couldn't get a hit due to all the stick stirring that was obviously going on inside that slow lumbering Hawg.
Having burnt all his E, and running out of room, he belly flopped right into the dirt!
May be the best kill I've ever had! :D (wish like hell I had filmed it)
I remember a conversation not to long back where RWY and Rude both claimed to have the ability to out fly me or anyone else, "Anytime, anywhere." The claim came as a result of several of us whining about the 13th TAS hovering like vulchers at high alt and picking off helpless low flyers in their P51s.
Honestly though, it was AWESOME to see Rude flying low rather than the usual boring B/Z technique. Perhaps there is a pilot in him after all. :)
I think he even got a HO on me later when he was shooting ack in his Spit (jaw drops) and rolled out as I rolled in. :)

yeah... I been a little surprised lately that I have even seen any 13th guys. At my alt I never seen em before much. They have loosened up for some reason lately tho and got down and dirty with the rest of us a little more often. I've actually had some good fights with a few of em lately.

Rude has no kills this tour in any model of Spitfire.
... and we haven't changed; still fly the same way we always did. The idea that we are always "high altitude" is generally fostered by the fact that we work REALLY hard not to get into a low-E situation at any altitude. (But it happens.. and generally if you get low-E in a Mustang, you get killed rather quickly.)
Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could push a button and make the opposing player fly the way YOU want him to fly?
That'd fix those dang B&Z players!
Hey! it would fix those dang turnfighter players too!
Hey... wait... if EVERYONE could make the other guy fly the way....but... if we were ALL trying to control the other guys plane... who would actually be in control?
-
Mr. Sky Viper...thanks for the <S>...bakatcha!
Now, the reason you got the kill last night while I was flyin the f4u4 thingie, was due to the fact that I couldn't see jack out of that thing and got too slow due to pure boredom and an uncontrollable desire to park the thing and get back into my Mustang :) Thanks alot Vruth(he called that sortie) :D
As to HO kills against you and me ina spit...just didn't happen. I killed you three times due to superior ACM skills and pure unadulterated good looks!
So next time you see a P-51 baby...run like the girlscout ya are, cause I'm gonna feed this Pony on your sorry rearend.
Oh, and btw, for the rest of you turds out there that think the 13th TAS hides in the clouds, well, we may just start announcing our alt after every kill on ch. 1 just so the truth will be known.
Of course, I do understand that many players that get whooped on a frequent basis often can't deal with it. Just understand that we care, and I want to encourage all of you that dyin by the hands of the 13th TAS will enventually become comfortable and you will accept it as one of lifes inevitable realities.
:)
Just havin some fun :) <S>

Er, better to call alt when you decide to engage, being dragged down to kill a target under you don't count much.

Hey Boozer.....
Quit your whinin ya girlscout!

I love it... "stop staying hi and come down and fight low." yeah, that'd be intelligent on their part! Get your purty P-51 on down here low and slow for the TnB planes please! That'll really show if you got hair on your chest (and no grey matter in your skull!) :D
sounds like the 13th TAS knows their Pony ride well, and flies to its strengths and not its disadvantages. <S> for flying your preferred ride well, and damn the rest of 'em if they don't like ya for it!

You callin' my Hellcat a hovercraft? :p oh, you must be referring to the Hurri IIc. ;) hehe, seriously, I fly what I am in the mood for flying. Even dusted off my Spit V once this tour.
Haven't seen Ghost or Darling on when I've been on so no La7 or Pony sorties yet. :)

FYI you CAN fly a pony down low and do well.. it's all about SA.

Mashed Potatoes served in fine Gustav China.

toad... I would agree with you that we should be able to fly what we like any way that we like any time we like. I have no problem with that except.... The plane choices should have parity. It is easy to advocate free choice if the only plane you fly is a 262 say. I would say fine... but it should fly in an area where it can't get to the lesser planes. I have nothing against someone uping in a lesser plane from the "262 area" tho... it's his choice and his funeral. he certainly won't spoil the fun of the 262 advocates.
OTOH, in the early war area they would be much appreciative of the fact that there were no 262's or 51B/C/D/H's. I believe we can have free choice and parity.
But...I really don't care what you guys fly or how you fight. If you fly 51's and fight a certain way then you are not really a factor in my game anyway. A little anoying but I can live with that. I have no interest in grabbing a 51 and conning a few squaddies into doing the same to go fight yu guys when there are so many fun things to do. You guys plane choice and style is unfun for a lot of us so we never really run into you in any case. If you had a late war "area" you would be in it with like minded opponents and no appologies.
not sure this is coming off like i want but.. I have no problem with what you (or anyone)fly's or what "style" you fly... just where you do it.

Well the 13th TAS ladies might not always be found at interesting heights(read: lower than us), but I sure do have fun when I meet them. I usualy end up dead, or at least sweating buckets... those buggers don't leave their wingmen in a bad situation too long.
Would I be flying Allied-opportunistic-Aircraft ( :p) I'd like to be in a squad such as that.
...untill then, I'll keep lookin/huntin' for ya all :)

jump in the cockpit with one of the 412th or the 13th sometime...you might be surprised.
we don't always suck oxygen at 30k waiting for a single bandit to bounce.
-
P51's suck - when I see a high p51 I get all happy and chirpy cause I know i'm gonna get a kill.
:D
-
Hmmm Zygote....you might post you stats against the pony...let us see how scary ya are when fightin one.
Unless of course your post about seeing 51's was not talking about shooting them down in a fighter, but rather while on your arse in an ostwind or a buff.
Talks kinda cheap :D
-
.... ask around and see where and how high we were fighting in our Mustangs last night.
Basically, you guys don't know what you're talking about WRT to the 13th.
See ya up there... and down there. ;)
-
Ah, the 13th TAS. The monsters who know how to get the workings out of their aircraft, the P51.
If they stay within the aircraft's best operating envelope, which they do 85% of the time, they are unbeatable. One of the reasons I fly this SIM is the chance I may catch one of them operating in the other 15%
They are always a pleasure to fly against!
:)
HeHE!!
-
Ok... I will ask the obvious... Why do you fly 51's then? they are not good all around planes. As was stated... they have an envelope that is about 85% that if you stay in it... you are untouchable. You can fly low and be untouchable if you are careful and have enough support.
No.. I would love to see you fly them in a late war only arena with some of the guys (who have spoken up here) who love late war planes and the style that late war planes demand.
I think that I would much rather meet you all in an early war setting flying say, 40's. I'm sure you would do well but a lot worse than you do in the current arena. Teamwork is allways a help. I know for a fact that if yu were say a Spit 5 squad (in the current arena)then you would have huge losses in the arena over time.
Your plane choice fits your style. Nothing wrong with that. The arena allows it. I'm just saying that it would be more fun with more parity. And... no need for apolodgies or excuses or denial.
and... ya gotta admit... it's pretty pitiful when the only guys that think you are fun are..... LW. Like going to see a german comedian.

LOL, there were a group of about 8 51s that came over A3 at 20k+. I never got to see who they were because the cowards kept going north and left us to schwack the livin toejam out of their friends below.
Poor selfish bastids.
What a hoot!
Viper
-
Yep, get a 13th guy down low, he dies ;)
I do remember the pony horde at 39k in the isles map a few tours back... became so obnoxious we usually just gave them the field instead of having to climb all the way up to be gangbanged :D :D :D
Sad they fly that crappy plane, they would do so much better in the 38 *G*
-
Viper, well, it wasn't us.
Laz.. the German comedian line is a great one.
Why do we fly them? Because we like them, obviously.
They aren't the best but flown right they are good... but subjectively I think most of the 13th thinks they are the best looking and they have an irresistable mystique for us.
Clearly, we don't pick the plane we think we could "score" highest in. If we did, we'd be in something with cannons. I also think, given the talent available (and I'm not one of the talented; I can't see fer toejame any more and thus I can't shoot. Time for a 60" monitor!) the 13th would be respectable in just about any plane in the inventory (except maybe the 202).
If you're looking for true parity, then everyone would have to fly the same plane, same loadout, right?
All T&B planes are not created equal either. Were we to switch to any of those, there would be some better, some worse. All have strengths and weaknesses somewhere within.
I personally like the mixed nature of the arena. I enjoy not knowing what threat is coming next.
Last nite a few of us cruised down towards 7 from 8 at about 15k. Met an equal number of higher -51's and engaged. As usual, next thing you know we're down in the sea spray turning and burning with other -51's, Spits, LA's, Zekes... and we did OK. As the fight drifted towards the enemy base the numbers became overwhelming and we decided to bug out on the deck. It was a tough egress. Nearly back to our base and... 262's diving in! Had a great time jinking out of the gun solution for about 6 passes until I ran out of gas (using the WEP killed my reserve). Zigrat nailed me as I ditched.
Great sortie, truly enjoyable. Started out about 15K against other B&Z aircraft that were higher, descended into a T&B fun fest multi v multi, tough egress followed by the B&Z attacks by jets. I think I might have made the base with a bit more gas.
Anyway, it was 30 minutes of pure all-aspect fun.
YMMV.
I, for one, like the diverse nature of the MA.
The CT idea, in its present iteration, is clearly a total failure.
I'd like to see them give your particular "dream sheet" a try now. I used to be a total T&B guy through my AW DOS and WB days. I enjoy it. But I also enjoy what I'm doing now. (...and again, what the 13th does now is a far cry from what most of you think we do. I invite those of you who doubt to ride along some evening.)
One faction has had a shot at their dream arena. I don't see why a group of vocal T&B guys shouldn't get their shot.
I'd be much more likely to drop in on that one than the present CT. The action is way to slow in the present CT for my taste.
Good luck to you.

Bah... pony envy is no diffrent than noodle envy.
Either way; yah wind up screwed.
:D
<S!> TAS!
-
I'm not quite sure what people's problem is against the pony. Normally, I don't have any problem killing them. Hey Rude, I'll even post my stats :)
I'm 4 and 3 vs. them in the 109F4 (I believe all those were gangbangs, but I only remember 2 of them.)
3-0 in the 109G10 (hey, it is a runstang killer :D)
1-0 in the 190A-5
4-0 in the A-8
3-0 in the D-9.
0-2 in the P-51D (1 a vultch :(, 1 a very fun gangbang :))
All that said, I think the Pony is a really REALLY nice plane. I think it is at least the equal, if not the better, of the 109G10 and the 190D9. I flew it for a couple days and did pretty well in it, it flies very nicely. Doesn't accelerate all that well though, which is why people have to keep it fast. I think that a lot of Mustang pilots kinda get used to just running away in a straight line if they lose the initial advantage though, so you can kill them pretty easy in the G10 and D9. Between two good pilots, I think the fight would be pretty even.
-
13th TAS has been the same since GEnie half-time Air Warrior.
Consistently annoying :)

you guys scare me .. :D

All it really is: Old friends, new friends,
sharing good times, bad times, lots of history, and flying the plane that brought us together.

<S!> TAS!
LOL, not EXACTLY!
noodle envy: May be able to get a funky looking implant to help, but genetics don't leave much hope.
So, no matter how much you want it, bigger is not gonna happen.
Pony envy: Anyone can climb for an hour in a Pony and get above the crowd. Then take advantage of the smoking wreaks that try to get out of a well fought battle.
Hell, every time I see a "Pony Addict" in another plane, they get killed.
Is that because they can't figure out how to fly with obscured vision, low E, and increased need for SA?
I don't mean to say that the P51 is Uber, because it's not. I do mean to say that there are a few pilots among us who have limited potential and can't/won't extend their ability into areas where they can not immediately dominate.
Viper
-
toad.. I don't want a seperate late war arena.. just an "area" within the arena for late war planes. same for early and mid war. U would be able to engage like minded types who didn't mind all of the organization and climbing before the fight started. If you spot what looks like a fun fight in another "area" you could go up there... just not in a 51. Fair enough eh? Every plane available all the time in one arena.

Mr. Viper.....
One of lifes saddest happenings is when a grown man kids himself.
Stop kiddin yourself...Ive killed ya 5 times in my Pony all at low alt...you got me once in a plane I had never flown before.
You must have us confused with other 51's...I realize that seeing 51's must evoke fear in that little thumper of yours...I mean seriously, to know that your going to get shot down and not be able to do anything about it must suck :D
Cyas in the weeds!
-
Laz, I understand what you're saying.
I doubt HTC will alter the MA, however. It's running pretty well and pretty full.
We _might_ be able to get them to offer your setup in an alternate arena to give your idea a try and see what response it generates. Until it's available, we'll never know.
I think the current CT has had enough of a chance. Time to "rotate" ideas and see if yours is popular.

Psssst... Vipe...
What I mean is 'it ain't so much whatcha got... it's all in how you use it.'
But thanks for the enlightenment on yer anatomical interpetations.

Why not tell the truth Rude? I forced you to fly the 4-letter-word HOG in a mission. :D
Seriously, it was me that caused that furball by A8, along with the rest of the 13th TAS that got our butts handed back to us (not all of us mind you, but a few were killed upon arrival). Not exactly sure why the F4U-4 is worth 60 perkies when the F4U-C is a much better version for only 8.

LMAO...not able to do anything about it. You should change your handle to Clown, cause your so funny!
Most of "where" I fly is usualy crowded and more often than not, I am out numbered. Yet I have a positive k/d that shows I do know how to do something about it.
I just don't fly in 1 plane trying to perfect my roadkill eating skills. :0

LOL
You don't even realize how nicely this reinforces my point.
You CAN'T fly anything else.
I (and many others) on the other hand, could tool around above everyone for hours every tour and rack up a 40:1 k/d.
But why? So that a bunch of better pilots can call me a monkey? So that I can be bored out of my mind?
Viper
-
toad... seperate arenas don't work. if an 'area' arena proved to have such overwhelming support that it became popular then it would soon make the current arena obsolete. Seems there can be only one.
I would be happy right now with a very early war area in the current MA. I could be wrong on this but I think that the current MA would be even more full with the fun of an early war "area" and it wouldn't hurt the arena or any style of play in the least... well... unless everoyne wanted to be in the early war area but that is doubtful.. What might hurt 51 guys is when they open up the late war area.

I've flown just about every kite in the set at one time or another but I keep coming to the Pony. For whatever reason I'm better in the Pony than any other kite in the set.
But tell ya what: next time I'll be in the same area you're in I'll strap on something I'm not familiar with to give ya even odds. Since you're obviously whining about being a 'jack of all kites and master of none' :D

Oh my GOD! You are SOOO disillusioned!!!
You have been "shootin down mouthy guys like me for years?" LMAO!
I didn't say you couldn't shoot us down! What I said is that you can't do it in 10 different planes each tour!
BTW, I have been shooting down guys for years too. Occasionaly, I have even climed into the Stratosphere and shot down monkeys like you!
Outclassed? GOOD! I don't prefer to be in a small minded, holier than thou, alt monkey class! And in case you think you are elite, your right...not many people care to be so stuffy and boring. :D
Jealous? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! I know who I am, what I am, and use it better than you ever could! Proof is in the variety of planes in which I have a good/great K/D ratio.
I dare you to fly 4 planes other than the P51 next tour, and not fly the P51 at all.
Think of it as possible enlightenment. ;)

Howdy Ice!
I've been good. Dropped out of flight sims after Longbow (toolongbow as jordi says). Did some ww2ol beta (larff!) testing and erased that steaming pile from my hard drive awhile back. Futzed around in Everquest mostly for the past 2 years. Deadduck and I and some others from AW play most every night on the CT server.
Now I have just ordered me a new CH stick since I find this cheap gravis wanting and it's time to get back into it here. Not like I ever rose above dweeb status anyway so losing isn't very painful. :) (Winning in a Yak is fun though!)
Always nice to see TAS guys from DOS still flying and contributing to sims too. (waves at Thumby!)

The real thing that doenst add up is the way they fly the pony. It was probably the most aggressivly flow(with the jug and hellcat) plane of ww2. Yet they fly it like some east front 109G6 cherry picker...
If the USAAF flew the thing so timidly they would still be waiting for the war to end.

Surely you're not speaking of the 13th?
