Intensified light beam.
I deal with a 6 KW laser all day long in my shop. We cut metals with it.

No kidding, so does my father, he runs a Trumpf laser at a metal fabricating company, not sure what the wattage is.

Ours is a Trumpf 5040 with RotoLas (so we can cut pipe and tube also) and Liftmaster. Self loading and unloading lights out..... it'll run all weekend.

Yeah I know the one my dad runs has a Liftmaster on it to, I'll have to ask him exactly which model the Trumpf laser is. He's been to their HQ in Connecticut a couple years ago to take some classes. Unfortunately with the down turn in the economy he hasn't been working the hours he use to there, he us to work from 6-4:30 P.M & Saturdays 6-11 A.M, but for the last year they've only been working 7-3:30 and no Saturday, so it's been pretty tough financially, but their starting to get busy again, this week they went back to a 6 o'clock start.

Don't know what happens if you point one of those laser pointers at a TV but I do know what happens when you point one at a crack head.
Do you think we could get a crack head to chase this laser like a cat? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ly1uubccl8)
ack-ack

I'm still trin to figure out why someone would need or want a laser sight on a point n click gun....... :D :noid :bolt:
-
I found a new shotgun I really want, It is a 12 guage, on an AK-47 frame, 25 round mag. THat would be worth putting a rail system with a lazer and a Tact flashlight on it.

I have a couple MAZAK's HTX's with auto load and stock bins, but i am wondering if the mazak will out run the trumpf's IPM.?
-
My 3 year old Grandson got a hold of it and was pointing it all over the screen,so I wasn't sure glad to know it didn't hurt anything, thanks again

Yeah my dad said the Trumpf he runs is a 4 KW 3030, he said that your 5040 must be a newer model. He said that he's never run one with RotoLas because they don't cut pipe, but his also is self loading & runs lights out.
Those machines are expensive, he said they paid a million for the one he runs 9 years ago.
-
AK 47 frame?
Might be thinkion' of the Saiga 12's
(http://www.saiga-12.com/images/Large/Saiga_12K.jpg)
As for the laser...one of my shotguns is a tacticool...it's got a bunch of goodies, tac light, laser, maybe puttin a bayonet on for show. :P
-

We paid 1.4 mil for the first HTX and the auto loader and 60k stock bins and 900k for the second HTX, they inline and use the same loader, stock bins and finish table. Also have a Amada but its a old 98 model.

This was made on the Mazak Space Gear tube laser that we made when i went to Chi town for school last year. Sorry litte out of focus.
-
Yeah my dads made some really cool stuff like that on his laser, I have a really nice Indy type race car he made, he also made this really cool T-Rex that you built yourself, it was like a wooden model you'd buy where you break off each piece then assemble it.

They are much more efficient than they were 9 years ago. We bought ours when we built our new facility in 2008. This machine will put you out about 1.3 mil if you can swing a good deal. Not including shipping or installation. The beds on it will handle sheet/plate to 158" x 79".
Early last year we also had a bulk nitorgen tank with a trifecta system installed out back. We cut and etch all types of metals. We have also cut wood for a couple of countertop/furniture manufacturers.

The 5040 is rated up to around 2000 IPM cutting and almost 12000 IPM positioning.

Where did you go to school at here in Chicago?

Here is a short video I shot of our machine. I shot it with my cellphone while we were cutting some 12 ga 316 SS parts for a customer. The customer can be heard in the background. When the machine positioned towards the glass, he almost fell over backwards. :lol
File is 5.27 MB mp4 format.

Flying optics machine traverse rate is faster but cut speeds are pretty much the same. Although i have run into things at 5000 Ipm i would hate to see what happens at 12000 IPM. You do the programming or just operation?

so a shotgun with a 25 round mag.. and you need a "lazer" on it?
Im pretty sure even Ray Charles could hit what he wanted with such a weapon with no need for a laser.
that's like rubbing poison on the tip of a 2000 pound bomb.

Ok, he had thought it might be a company from Texas called Wood & Metal since you said you guys sometimes burn wood.

I know but it would be cool to have. It is only Semi auto, and would hate to waist ammo.

Thats fast, how thick will it cut and what is the IPM? Is there much cleaning on the table? DO you do your own nesting or does someone else do that?
-
Where'd the topic go? We talkin' about laser guns now?

Laser cutters, there machines that cut up sheets of metal for different products, there used in the metal fabricating industry.

Up to 2000 IPM cutting and 12000 IPM positioning. We cut up to 1 1/2 inch thick.
We do all our own programming and nesting.
We replace the slats on the table about once every 6 months. Easy enough as the laser cuts new slats.

thats pretty cool, must not leave much of a mess like plasma cutting and of course flame cutting leaves alot of mess
I watched that video and man is that fast, very impressive

Hey Shuff,
Would you post a pic of something interesting you've cut?
Also, what would a planform of 1 of our favourite aircraft cost? scale size of course.... :D
P38 paper weight maybe??
:salute
