I don't know if it's a fake or a real one, but I love it. Guy lucky he didn't hit those bombs.

So is it a real pic? Any picture expert?
-
I have seen it before in several books, each time it was said to be real.
I am no picture expert though.

Look like an A5 to me though; yellow stripe on tail, relatively short nose.
OTOH the blades look like from a D9.
Ugh, a bit too blurry.
Dinnae know it could take *7* eggs. Only 7 times more than the A8 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

The end of the fuselage is very narrow, that's why I thought it was a D9. Nath should ID it easy.

The pic is real. You can find the same exact pic in the manual of SECRET WEAPONS OF THE LUFTWAFFE game, pg 110.
The caption reads
"A FW190 dodges a stick of bombs durin a U.S. raid on german railroad yards"
-
It's a Dora.

<wobble resurects his old bomb "lack of bomb dynamics whine">
its neat how the real sticks of bombs look so much like the ones in AH, the way they line on a perfectly straight line and land the same distance apart no matter the alt they are dropped from..oh wait they dont. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Of course they don't, they are dodging that darn 190 who is trying to steal them :-)

Wobble...don't hijack this threat hehehe.
-
sorry french, I wont hijack the thread...but if i did and I dropped the bomb i had strapped on me it would fall perfectly straight, without losing E and would not be affected by wind.. LOL j/k I wouldent drop it (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

Anyone seen that picture of the B17 horizontal stab being hit by a bomb from a B17 above it?

That photo is also in the Osprey book, Fw 190 Aces of the Western Front . The caption reads, "Diving away after carrying out a stern quarter attack, this "Long Nose" was captured on film by B-26 Marauders of the 9th AF seconds after they had released their bombs during a mission over the Western Front in December 1944 .

Yup... I have it in the WW2 Time-Life series of books. Think its the Air War over Europe
one. In my book, its a series of three pics taken in succession from the bomber who dropped. The lower buff, out of formation, is seen before impact, during, and then banking away following. Quite scary, if you think about it.

This series of photos is actually several frames of motion picture film shot by a combat cameraman along on the mission.
The B-17 in question crashed. However, this was not due to losing the left horizontal stabilizer, it was due to the remaining elevator being jammed in the down position by the mangled remains of the other (the cables were obviously still attached).
B-17s could fly rather well missing one of the horizontal stabilizers, and more than a dozen returned from missions with on shot away or chopped off by a collision with a Luftwaffe fighter.
My regards,
Widewing

Question for you Widewing..
I saw a show on TV that mentioned that B17 and they said that it crashed. Thats all they said about it actually. What I was wondering is did any of the crew bail and survive?
