Post by: thorsim on January 27, 2010, 11:10:41 AM
what is your vision ...

imagination encouraged.

hoping for a fun good conversation, this thread is not intended to be insulting to anyone ...

a what would you simulate, what aspect would you focus on, what are the priorities, how would you try and direct game play, whatever ...

I think Mazz's original thread on the subject in the general discussion forum pretty much answers what we want in our next flight sim.

I have some ideas or two. You must realize that HTC and Maddox however, has found the good "formula" for actually making money at this venture, so any ideas we can have outside their boxes are liable to be market suicide.

1. Concentrate your efforts on a narrower range of planes with as absolute fidelity as humanly possible. Say planes in use on Continental Europe on January 1st 1945, for instance. This would be a poor idea business-wise though. Having everything from an I-16 to a Me-163 is more of a draw than having specific models of P-51 and Fw-190 modeled down to every bolt, nut, and switch.

2. Some other era or place, probably Korea or Israel (I really like the latter idea. Imagine a sim encompassing all the planes that have crossed swords over the Middle East since 1948.) Or possibly a "what if". What if WWII had started 3-5 years sooner, or lasted 2-3 years longer? What if there had been a large scale air-war sometime 1920-1930?

But like I say, all these idea have limited appeal.

Well, gosh.  First I would coad a physics model that allows me to use lookup tables and formulas so I could add anything from a balloon to a space ship if I have the right data.  Well...ok, mayby not those extremes.

Then I would create (or license) a graphics engine that allows me to create graphic models independent of the skins that will wrap around them.

Once all that is done I would set restrictions on what I can model, then limits on minimum data which must be available to implement a model

Eventually I would buy an RV-8 and fit it with a GAU-8 (those numbers can't be coincidental) so it can defend itself in a busy pattern.

It would be a box game so it could have pretty graphics, sounds and a bunch of other extraneous nonsense.
It would have very high-fidelity controls and detailed models (immersion is all in the details for me...) with combat trim, stall limiter esque features (as opposed to reduced reality modes) features for people with 2 fingers/hand.
It would be an MMO because single player games are incredibly boring. With an AH esque main arena (this is actually something I like a lot about Aces High)
There would be a detailed and interactive strategic system with, as well as stationary targets, many many moving targets such as trains and supply convoys.
There would be a MW2 esque matchmaking system for quick duels.
Facilities for the community to churn out product, and set up events etc.

Should take $20, a piece of gum and a paperclip :aok

It would be sweet having a +4 elemental fire damage .50 caliber machine guns.
