Title: 109 film
Post by: The Fugitive on January 31, 2010, 11:33:21 AM
Below is a film I have of me fighting in a 109 against a 109. I end up getting picked by a KI. When I watch films I tend to "feel" where I would have pulled a bit more, or added a bit more rudder and so on. What would you have done different to get the kill faster so as to NOT be there to get picked by the KI?

Any tips, comments, or jokes welcome  :aok

Just from watching the first half of the film, it seemed like you hung on to an E advantage for a long time. I would have been much more aggressive, especially with you being in a more maneuverable 109 (even though you had gondolas).

I agree with Vent.I think this was simply a case of not being aggressive enough. You did have snap shot opportunities due to having a distant E advantage most of the fight but you didn't capitalize on some of the moments where you could have saddled up.

The merge was very safe too. Not a bad idea in a multi-con scenario or against a tighter turning plane, but I think if you had gone for angles off the bat you would have been in good shape to end it quickly.

It's a RAR file, you'll need to unzip it. I use WinRAR.

Yep.  In a situation like that I like a shallow dive to get underneath then try and bait them into a double immel rope-a-dope.  You certainly could have been more aggressive there, going straight up and hanging off the prop just shows the other guy how much E you have.  The reason you guys kept ending up nose to nose was because you were letting him get back around by not keeping the pressure on.  In a high speed fight like that where you have the E advantage there's no excuse to be sticking in a HO pass like that and taking the chance.  When you see the HO is coming and you have the E it's a great opportunity to give up a very low percentage bait shot in exchange for the other guy blowing E trying to pull for it, and ideally trying to follow you up to his demise.

Ya I'm pretty easy, especially when it's a K4. Ya never know when it might be one of those "cute little furry hand puppets"  :neener:

Most time, if I have the time, I try to maintain my "E" while making them climb to me burning theirs. So the first part of my fight is almost always to get them to fall below me. Once I have that I'm thinking I'm in the cat-bird seat and can now play out the fight the way I want. In this case I did get him to stall and dive for the deck and finally got a pilot wound on him in a crossing shot.

Where would you be more aggressive? Would you push harder "G's"? Would you use yo-yos to get back on him quicker, and if so tight or loose ones? Where do you push a fight like this one without blowing all of your "E"?

Doesn't s.a.p.p. demote you to blender washer for flying 109's?

To be honest, and I don't want to sound like a jerk here, but really there wasn't a time were you didn't keep the E. I basically was a pick feast in my opinion.

If you give him enough space to reverse and go nose 2 nose because your grabbing thats what he'll do and the fight will drag on. Could have got a lot slower and turned a lot tighter instead of grabbing E imo.

I havnt watched the film but from what others have said I can say that is a common mistake I see with people flying 109s....they think to just go vertical.......109 needs good throttle and rudder control to be deadly :salute
