I need to be able to read and write Japanese on my computer. Back in the old days, Office XP had a language pack that you could install and you were good to go in Word, Excel, etc. by typing in Japanese.
I currently have Vista Home Premium (?), but I found out that to be able to do the Japanese stuff I used to be able to do for free in XP, I have to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. Then I was thinking, if I have to upgrade anyway, would I be better off to go ahead and get Windows 7 Ultimate? IIRC, people have been saying that 7 runs a little bit better than Vista, but never having used it, I have no first hand knowledge of this. So, if you were in my boat, would you go to Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7 Ultimate?
Thanks,
John

I would go with 7 ultimate, vista is just a mess. I dont know for sure or not, but you may not hafta swing all the way to 7 ultimate. 7 pro might do it, im running 7 pro ill check it out for ya.

SKJohn, I think you may need the "Multilingual User Interface Pack"...?
Here's a good Win 7 version comparison chart:
