when I make a map it is almost inpossible to see the grid reference, once saved as a 256 bit map no grid reference exists, what am I doing incorrectly.
grid line 80, text 128, size 4 ( this fails on any bit map size 512,1024,2048 or 4096)

This is going to sound silly.
Did you insert a check in the Show Grid Lines check box?

I was thinking the same. :)

show grid lines box is checked, I can see the numbers but very faint, and once you change to 256 color, you can not see a single number, grid lines are nice and clear

Ahh, now I know what you are talking about. Yeah, they do show up pretty faintly. Crank up the Text Alpha in that same Make Map options window. It can range between 0-255 & I believe the default is 128.

Thanks that made a big difference, now I can use paint to give me something I can see with out I strain.
