yea, this was posted a while back. Great story.

I posted it a while back probably for a second or third time. I did a quick Google search of Oberleutnant Franz Stigler and found a quick bio of him. Any of you 109F fans may want to read it. 28 air victories against American and British planes.
heres the bio

It is a remarkable story. I wonder how many other German pilots stop being a solder and start being human to help out their foe?

Having read the thread link. I recognised the name RAF Kimbolton. I've been there a few times. It is partly an industrial site about an hour away from me. As a former trucker I have delivered goods there.
Here's a link which shows you how it looks now. http://www.fieldsofvalour.co.uk/Kimbolton/mappage.htm

That truely touches your heart. I know of many things like this happening, but this story is just so much more touching because of the fact that the two pilots later met. Thanks for sharing. <<S>>

They were at the 2000 Warbirds Con. I bought the reprint picture and got their signtures on it. Great to hear them tell their story in person.
